  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

For those of you that have the g70 of course, whats your honest opinion on the backseat ? Is it truly cramped back there ? Is the backseat adequate enough for space of two grown people ? Hows the trunk space is more than adequate or is it small ?

The trunk space is fine but the backseat is pretty small

For a 6 foot driver I cannot put another 6 foot passenger behind me. I can move my seat forward a few inches to give way to rear seat passenger at compromise of my comfort which I have done for short drives. Longer than 30-45 minutes this becomes an issue for both of us.
Trunk space depends on life choices. It carries all the luggage two of us need for a multi day trip. Big family and lots of grocery bags then you are not looking at this car to purchase in any case (I hope). Two golf bags, I dunno, though likely if one uses the folding rear seat. Folding seats give lots of options for carrying odd shaped items such as an 8 foot Christmas tree in my case.
This car is a sport sedan and the family focus is a smaller part of the design.

Yeah i have been hearing that, wow its really is small.

It's the exact same size as the BMW 3 series i had. Adults can fit but they'll be tight.

Interesting. I wouldnt say family yet, but for one person and occasionally having 1 or 2 people it should be fine then. Why is the g70 backseat smaller than the bmw 3 series, S4 and C class. Doesnt make any sense. So if the driver is 5’9-5’10 and the passenger is under 6’0 then the driver and passenger in the back should be fine then ? If the trunk can do multiple groceries, have 3-4 suitcases then its fine.

I am using 6 feet height as that is my height and I have used the driver seat and tested the rear seat so that is my metric. Other driver and passenger heights I cannot say with experience.
I think the answer to your comment would be yes.

I drove a bmw 5 series, the backseat was fine, but the headroom felt narrow, dont know how a 6’0+ guy could fit in their comfortably at least without his head touching the ceiling. The G80 really tops the germans in leg space, head room and beinf comfortable enough for a 6’0 person to be in back. Ill say this, if one rarely has passengers the g70 is excellent all the way through,

When we take another couple out to dinner, I move my seat forward and raise it up, so they can fit their feet under the front seat. I'm 6' and our backseat passenger is usually about 5' 9". It works fine, but as others have said, neither person would be that comfortable for a 1 hour trip or more. For older folks, the challenge is more the getting in and out of the back seat. Once you're in it's not too bad for trips that aren't hours long. My last couple of 3 series (E90 and F30 sedans) definitely had a bit more room back there, especially to put your feet under the seat.
I find the trunk space perfectly adequate, even if it is less than the competition.

Another thought: When I went to see the G70 with my wife to see if the size and access was to her liking she mentioned that the black interior made it claustrophobic for her and I could understand that. (The size and access were fine, it was being in the black interior for a while that bothered her). I bought with the gray (ivory) interior and the feeling of space is much improved thereby.

I went to test drive a Lexus I250 and the snug rear seat was a deal-breaker. (The funny thing is I rarely have passengers, but I do have a lot of friends that are 6'+.)

Make no mistake….. there is no backseat room. Treat your purchase as a two seater

Huh? It's not that bad! A Porsche 911 is a two seater. We've had adult couples in the back seat regularly, although granted not for hours at a time. But then I haven't been in a sports sedan yet that I would want to spend hours in the back seat in.

My wife is petite and sits in the passenger side any my 5'11" teenager fits decently in the rear passenger with the front seat forward a bit. He has head and leg room. His challenge is getting in and out as the slope of the door is low.

Yeah, like many "sporty" cars, the ingress and egress is the tricky part. That's one reason SUVs and crossovers are so popular. 😬

This is exactly right. It's why I kept my 2015 Genesis Sedan if we have a long trip. Also, the ride is just more plush and quiet, hard to walk away from that. I have a small child that's still in a booster and my fiance is 5'8". They can fit behind each other. I'm 6ft (not super tall) and nobody is really comfortable behind me in my seating position. My G70 is a coupe with 2 doors for decoration is how I see it.

I'm like 5'8" and granted I sit in quite a relaxed position but its still tight enough that I move the seat forward a bit when my 5'6" wife sits behind me. I've sat in the back of a 3-series and it definitely felt roomier, though not "roomy" by any means.

On the flip side though, we have a rear facing infant seat on the passenger side and my wife can still sit in front of it without her knees in the dash, so I'm making the family car thing work (although we also have a Kia Sportage).

Same fundamental flaw as the ATS.

But what's actually worse than knee room is the headroom and space for the feet.

I'm 5'9" and I can sit behind myself, but the biggest problem is that if the seat is all the way down, there's no toe space. Otherwise, knee space is okay but just looks close. I've had 2 family members over for vacation and us 4 fit okay. If you don't have anyone over 6' and the fronts have their seats at reasonable distances back, then it fits not uncomfortably but not comfortably either. Yeah road trips would be a bigger problem.

The G70 has less space than competitors, excluding the Lexus IS, but all of them are bigger too except for the Audi (FWD) and Mercedes.

back seat width and headroom is decent for most folks, especially under ~5'8" or so. the bigger issue is foot room. there is essentially no foot room under the front seats for anyone with the Lexicon sound system due to the subwoofers.

my two small children fit just fine back there on their booster seats. i do not expect an issue since i'll have moved on to something else by the time they are full grown.

i've never had 4 adults in the car, but when i had 3 it was fine. shorter people usually have smaller feet so the foot room issue is not as much of a problem. i would not want to subject my buddies (all 5'11"+) to much time back there, but that is essentially never a concern the way things go.
