  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 Dash Cam Installation: BlackVue DR900S-2CH

Is it that the fuse isn’t in correctly or that it may have blown? I’m assuming it didn’t blow because like I said the dash cam is functioning the way it should...This is very frustrating lol
Did you use a fuse tap? Does the tap have both fuses in it. One for the cam and one that was the original for the trunk (assuming you used the trunk for the tap) ?

I wrapped the wire around the fuse prong like in the instructions shown by @Ruissimo

Excellent DIY report. And, BTW, very useful for those who want to install a radar detector. Oh yeah, I know, many will go for installing the wiring via the rear view mirror and using the Blendmount. I opted to install on the visor as I felt that dropping the RD below the mirror was too visible from the outside. The RD on the visor is just about undetectable unless one gets really up close.

Anyone been able to install a rear dash cam in a G80 with rear sunshade?

Thanks, this is such a nice write up! This should definitely help when I buy and install them! I was worried the cables wouldn’t look clean, but after seeing yours I’m definitely going to buy the cameras + battery for parking mode

And I *STILL* haven't driven my car at night!!!
This seems to be the camera I'll be buying, bit I am concerned about the quality of night video. What is your impression of night videos?

I also decided recently to replace my cheapo Blackbox cam. I bought a Garmin 56. Love the size, about like a match box, so tiny people do not believe it is a real camera and the voice operation works exceptional.. The magnetic mount that goes on the windshield is the best deal ever for me. Easy to remove when we put the Covercraft Sun Shield in. I did have to buy the Garmin accessory photo lens cover to stop the dash panel from reflecting in the video. It was cheap and the pic quality is very good now. This is the first time I have had a dash cam with bluetooth to transfer the photos/video (if you want to not remove the camera or the sd card from the car). I haven't yet but the Garmin Mini can be piggybacked and used on rear glass, I will probably do that soon.

Nice write up! Does anyone know how long I can leave the parking mode on before it drains the battery? I usually go on two-week work trips and leave the car in the airport parking lot.

There’s a setting that allows you to change the time. I have it set to 6 hours of parking mode... and won’t risk more than that...

Great write up! I’m just learning about these. What did you like about these cameras that led you to choose them?

Thanks for the write-up! I would have hated to go in blind like that, haha.

FYI, there is a fuse puller in the main fuse box under the hood. It really helped me out because I misplaced my needle nose pliers somewhere.

Front and rear protection. I have owned a dash cam since 2012... feel naked without one!

One more thing I noticed. It looks like the side airbag continues into the headliner, so tucking the cord through the top edge of the A-pillar means it'll be lying across the airbag. Probably not ideal. I was able to run the cord below the airbag (it ends about halfway down the a-pillar) and continue through the weather stripping. With a trim-puller, you can access most of the a-pillar without taking the entire thing off (which I wasn't able to figure out, anyways)

So I have the same dash cam but I have the Power Magic EZ option. It is a plug and play connector that serves the same purpose as the PMP but simply uses the OBD II port. I had no issues with it on my previous car, but on the G70 it is not functioning properly. It stays running even in the OFF position, and the dash cam keeps turning on and off while driving. Do you have an idea what could be the issue?

Have you ran into any issues with the Power Magic Pro? I might as well make the change to it.

Sorry... no idea. And no problems at all so far with the PMP.

Nice thread! I have the exact same dash cam and g70 3.3 sport. I got myself the external battery instead of using my car battery for parking mode, and im glad i did because I was recently a victim to a hit & run. 6 grand in damages =/ I didn't have to pay a dime though as the cam caught the plate, so the cam and everything already paid for itself.

Still no night footage yet? C'mon man go grab a Twix at a convenient store or something 🍫!
