Last time I used it that is exactly what it was for.
Did it prevent an accident? No.
Did it get me to my destination faster? No.
Did it change anyone's driving habits? No

If you use your horn on a daily basis you are probably not driving as well as you should.

I literally used mine a couple hours ago on my way home when I was side by side with another vehicle as they drifted in my lane. A quick tap on the horn and I prevented a sideswipe or worse. Seems like you’re projecting your use of the horn onto others just because you use it as a middle finger. My commute is cars side by side all day, so by nature of the number of cars I’m exposed to...I personally need to use my horn a couple times a week to counter inattentive drivers

The horn is there because it has a practical use at times. It just seems like a few are saying they need it every day. I've driven in every major city in the US including different hours in LV, and most uses I see are just to relive frustration of the user and it has no affect on anything else. If you NEED it every day, you really have to step back and look at the situation.

If you overuse it, people will ignore it and has no value when truly needed.

no offense but some of us live in areas where the horn has to be used every day to wake up the f-tards who are on their phones while driving in bumper to bumper traffic.

where you live might not be an issue, where I live and drive it is a daily thing. not everyone's situation is the same.. I can honestly say I use my horn at least a dozen times a week or more, and it is not because of MY driving habits.

not all of us live in The Truman Show. defensive driving is often not enough, as it used to be in previous decades.

don't forget that, at least in urban centres, the roads are becoming increasingly congested with cyclists and pedestrians, as well as e-scooters and several other hipster derivatives. all these users are facing the same challenges as car drivers as far as distracted driving goes, plus the added element of questionable training/education/licensing and registration. as the car driver, we are piloting the most lethal of the above forms of transport. using a horn judiciously is a one of the few defenses we have to protect others, as well as our insurance premiums.

after several trips to various european countries, i liken the increase in horn use in my area to becoming more EU-esque. and North American drivers could learn a lot from drivers in europe in many respects (also staying out of the passing lane!). the horn is a form of communication vital to everyone's collective safety far more often than it is used in anger over there. we're a far cry from Rome, but we're not Smallville any more either...

Did you ever tried the horn? The one that sounds when you press the center of the steering wheel? What you heard was the sound you get when you press the panic button which completely different to the sound emitted by the car's horn.

I had no idea there is a different sound for the panic button. That's interesting. I've never used either...

Almost every day for me. Worst f’ing drivers in the USA here.

The older we get, the worse the other drivers seem. Sometimes I think I'm in the Indy 500 with them coming right up on my bumper. I used to jam on the brakes for a 1/2 second just to back the idiots off, but don't do that anymore. The crazys might pull out a gun or follow you, hoping you'll stop so they can get physical. The roadrage is getting crazy out there. One defense is to drive 5 MPH under the speed limit so that they'll blow by you and swerve in and out ahead of you.

The negative there is they might crash, causing a big traffic jam. I do get a kick when I see them pulled over by a cop down the road, but that doesn't happen very often.

I'm late to the horn party, but thought I'd chime in, lol.
I haven't had to use the G70 horn yet, but in the past it's always been to avoid a collision, almost always from someone on the highway either drifting into my lane due to texting or suddenly trying to move into my lane because either they didn't bother to check their mirrors, or they didn't have their mirrors adjusted properly and didn't see me. On a few occasions I've even had to suddenly swerve into the left break down lane while blasting the horn to avoid being hit, usually by someone in an SUV.
I used to tell me kids when they started driving, if you can see the side of the car, then your mirrors aren't out far enough. You already know what the side of the car looks like.
IMHO many (maybe even most) people don't have their side view mirrors adjusted properly, if they use them at all. Thank goodness for blind spot warning, it would be mandatory in all new cars if I was making the rules.
Until then, I'll have to rely on the horn.
