  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am looking to purchase a 2019 G70. Personally, the 19-21 styling is much more appealing to me than the 2022+ styling. Maybe it's just the overly futuristic vibe they're going for that throws me off. If I do get a g70, it will be my car through college (probably 6 years.) Do you guys think the looks will begin to seem dated any time soon? Sometimes when I look at it I think it looks like a kia and sort of dated. Maybe it's just me though. Would love to hear the thoughts of you guys.

Thanks :)

Looks are very subjective. Personally I like the front end looks of new Kias than what Hyundai is doing. To be honest I thought that the grill on my 2019 G70 was a bit too much when I first saw it, but now looks much more composed than the others out there.

If the worst thing that happens in college is driving a 6 year old car, life it good. A 1981 Caprice looks dated and is probably what some of your classmates will be driving.

Even when I hady 2019 new, I thought the front looked like and Elantra Sport!
Doubt the front end will age well!

I hear ya on the 2022 looks. The extra large front grill that copies G80 and G90 looks, I’m not a fan of. I don’t like front ends that are 80% all grill plus I like some individuality between models. Lexus has a huge front grill too that spans from full top to bottom that I don’t really like. To each his own when it comes to looks though. I plan to keep my G70 more than 6 years so we both can decide if we are driving outdated cars or not? My Miata is 15 years old and still looks like new and I don’t think it looks dated. The new Miatia‘s are very curvy and sculpture looking. Still on the fence with that look.

Yea I know, but I've worked for a car for the last 4 years and have enough saved up for one and really want something that will continue to look stylish.

I mean really and truly looks are completely up to you, and what you think looks "dated" or "good". A 1970 Corvette Stingray to me is meh, but an older 1964 Corvette looks amazing to me. Only car I can think of that for sure does not look dated through out all the years, the Porsche 911, but there's a reason for that, they all still look similar.

Hate to say this to you, but if you're worried about the car looking "dated" you should consider leasing a car instead of purchasing one, just because with how technology is and designers are, within a year or two the car can look "dated". Not trying to be a dick at all. I do get what you're worried about, but at the same time only time can tell if said car will look "dated". I'm sure no one would have thought 60's muscle cars would be so sought after for the looks when they first came out.

My advice is, test drive one, sit inside it, experience the car first hand, and if you enjoy it to the point where you do want to purchase it I'd say go for it and not worry about how the car "looks", because 99% of cars will look "dated" to the newer generation of cars, but at the end of the day, for a car to look truly "dated" that's all up to you

I can tell you i agree. As a college student myself, my ‘19 will always look fresh. If you have a G70 on a college campus, it will always be the newest looking car in the parking lot except if some crazy rich kid has a new M340i.

Also, I am biased. but 10,000 miles later, after throwing four friends in it and driving it across the east coast, driving it through snow, sand, rain, mud, 11 different states, 500-mile road trips, seeing how many boxes of cheap alcohol we can fit in the back seat, carrying full-size 10x10’ tents, skis, bags, dogs.... taking it to my college car club, driving friends to fancy dinners when they ask “let’s take zach’s car, it’s fun”....it’s a GREAT college car.

get the first gen. it’ll always look good. the new grille is too much and based on my experience it’ll be a great college car no matter what. happy junior year...9A673A75-1158-478F-8B27-6E9E3B750172.webp
