  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 maintenance schedule?

I made an assumption that was wrong, but based on you being concerned with the price of an oil change you have to admit you came off as someone moving up from a lower level car used to low level maintenance. I don’t get how an extra oil change a year, based off your yearly Audi schedule, makes enough of a difference to sway your opinion on the car. sorry for missing that you posted your current car on one of your replies, not trying to be dismissive or anything. I’ll be the first to admit I’m fan-boying hard on this car and a little quick on the gun but I’m trying to provide objectiveness where I can because I honestly think this is a great car and oil change frequency shouldn’t turn anyone off from it
I would have to get an oil change every 3 months vs once a year with my Audi. Just because I buy expensive cars, doesn't mean I like spending more on maintenance. Plus it's not convenient. And my time is important.

I’m so sorry guys, genesis USA says 6k miles or 1 year (not 6 months). My fault, I prostrate myself before the faceless internet. Here’s an image of the main page so we can put that to rest. I still think a year between changes is pushing it but I do apologize for the confusion I was causing around thisView attachment 17426
Ok, that's a lot more reasonable

I do a lot of short distance driving. Less than 4 miles, so it would likely apply for me. Could get expensive.
If you are making a lot of short trips, especially in a cold climate, any car needs more frequent oil changes. Not enough to agonize about. If you

What time? The time it takes to hand your keys to the valet when he pick up your car?

I like to get the most out of my engine oil. :)

As for time. There's also time spent waiting for them to pick up the car. And being without a car. Not a huge deal, but getting an oil change every 3 months for a car with a modern engine and synthetic blend oil sounded like a massive waste.

Also, not too happy to hear that spark plugs need changing pretty quickly too it seems.

Plugs are 100k miles

Plugs are 100k miles
Are you sure. I thought it said 70k km on mine when I looked at the maintenance schedule.
I'll have to check again.

You evidently did not research this yet.. You get a loaner car. They will pick it up at your home or office. It is included in the price of the car for three years. You may not need every three months depending on your driving. Plugs are 100k miles. I've not had to change a plug since about 1995 on a car I kept for 122k miles

I didn't think they used synthetic oil in the US. Maybe I missed that though.

Yes. I spoke to the service department...as I was researching the JB4.

I did but was just avoiding going into details. Because of my work and travel schedules, having them pick up my car doesn't work too well for me.

Anyway, just comparing the maintenance schedule for the G70 to other cars it's competing with, the G70 has a more aggressive schedule. It's something I will need to keep in mind when cross shopping.

I would be surprised if they don't use at least a blend.

The manual, as posted above, says to replace spark plugs every 42k miles.
Dunno what to tell you. Several mechanics stated 100k...and I’m going with that.

Not even going to have it past 30k anyway.

Unless it’s in writing, I’d suggest following the manual. Just my 2 cents

If you’re only keeping it for 30k miles...moot point :p

Does Canada use a different oil? My dealership uses a semi synthetic for the g70 but I don’t have a clue how Canada would tell you a different schedule for the same car in the US unless they were maybe using a much higher quality oil. Even then, a yearly oil change on a high strung turbo’d car seems...sketch

^ we get factory fill of Shell Helix full synthetic in CAD. There’s an under hood sticker stating this. All Genesis services include full synthetic.

I am not used to the extended interval oil changes, so call me a Luddite. It’s not the 10k kms that’s the issue, but the duration of 1 year does feel too long. I’ve always used 6 months regardless of mileage. Either i’ll have to get used to it or pay out of pocket for a 6 month change. I only drive ~7500kms a year so i changed oil at 6 month or ~3750kms for many years. I know i may have been tossing out perfectly good oil, but old habits die hard.

My dad still sticks by the ‘oil change every 3 months (each season)’ credo that the old car guys used way back in the day. Obviously that is out of touch with today’s technologies...

I’m pretty similar, don’t do many more kilometres than you do, and I change my oil every time I change my tires for the winter/spring. So probably every 4-5k or so.

to add to any confusion, according to the connected services web page the recommended service interval is 6 months. however, included services are apparently on an annual basis.

here's what my page shows:

I thought I saw somewhere that the G70 comes with 3 years of free maintenance in the US. I could be wrong.
