  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if anyone could tell me what could happen if I turn in my lease with a paint mismatched? Someone recently keyed my car in a parking lot and I had to get the whole side repainted. A shop tried to paint marche the car but from what I looked like didn’t do the best job. Any advice or help!

You should go after the shop to correct it. Was this recent?

Yes that is what i am currently in the process of. This happened about a month ago and I've literally had the car since August. Please see the picture i have posted! I was wondering worst case scenario what are the repercussions of turning in a lease like this? Mind you seeing the car like this doesn't even let me work in peace!

I image they would deduct the cost of a decent paint job.

If I was looking for a car and saw that on the lot I'd not look at it. Sure, not truly damaged like an accident but appearance matters.
Hope you can get it worked out.

You see something like that and wonder how badly they did on the stuff that you can't easily see.

Yeah he said that we will work on blending that fender with the hood and bumper but at this point I kinda don’t have any expectations. I still have 2 1/2 years on the lease as I just got it but is still tough to wake up every day and see this! Sometimes I wonder if the bill that the dealer will hand me will be as bad as trying to find another shop to fix this!

Which color is your car? Both the G70 3.3T SP and my current 2.0T SP were/are Alta White (the non-pearl white), and the difference in tone from the plastic bumpers to the fenders (both front and rear) is dramatic, and very noticeable. And obviously that's from the factory, since both cars had that effect at the 4 corners (so 8 total). Never seen so much difference from bumper to fender before, so check the other side of your car to determine how off the match is. Yes, it looks more off than factory from the picture, but only in person you can tell for sure.

Looks like Siberian Ice.

The color is Siberian Ice. Unfortunately all other corners match or at least are close enough were you can’t tell. I’m took it back to the paint shop so they rework it and get close to it as possible. My biggest concern is returning the lease and getting a huge paint job bill!

Multistage paint like many today and not easy to match.

Plastic parts like bumper facia covers take paint differently than metal parts. Electro static charge from spraying can affect how the paint particles align/how the reflect light which can affect color match. I had my other car bumper replaced a few months ago and the paint shop pulled out swatches to match the color, tint, reflectivity both while in the sun and in the shade. Would have thought he would have matched the bumper cover being painted, but he was color matching the swatch to adjacent metal body panels to ensure the new paint on the bumper matched the fenders. My color is a copper red metallic Mazda color. Painter also said he generally attaches a ground wire from the paint gun to the plastic part being painted to help minimize any static electricity buildup while spraying. His process and being meticulous showed for the color match looked really good on my Mazda between new bumper cover and fenders.

And also keep in mind the bumper paint is a DIFFERENT paint, which needs to be flexible, due to being plastic. It never looks the same, but with my white G70s, it's the worst contrast I've seen. But at least ALL vehicles look the same. It's harder to detect on darker colors.
