  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Any reason why I could not get an oil change at a Kia dealer on a 3.3 G70? Essentially same process including under engine cover? My three years of free pickup service has expired and Genesis dealer is 100 miles away.

Just call ahead to see if they have oil filter in stock.

Will do. I did purchase the Wix filter but also read that the 3.3 Kia oil filter is identical to G70 3.3

Can confirm, engine, oil and filter are all the same between G70 and Stinger. Only issue you may run into is if the dealership tells you "no" due to "not having Genesis trained staff"; My Genesis (Hyundai) dealer has told me this before when they couldn't book me in for a while due to their limited Genesis-trained staff being booked up. Which is annoying, as it isn't rocket science to do an oil change on this car, but is what it is I guess.

Also, OEM filter typically better than aftermarket when it comes to oil & Hyundai cars/filters I recall from Genesis Coupe days unless anything has changed.

That would really a lame excuse. Does the dealer sell used cars? Other brands? I'm sure they do some basic work on them as needed.

Warranty work, different story.

I completely agree, I feel like it’s more to protect them than anything since it is a higher class car than what they’d typically sell or work on likely. Not to compare G70 to GTR lol but similar to how only specific people at Nissan can work on GTRs, including oil change.
That being said, I wouldn’t trust any quick oil shop with my G70.

Trying to avoid the "quick oil change" places. Hoping to find a Hyundai or Kia dealer who can accommodate me. Appreciate the replies.

I'd bet that the Wix filter is better than the OEM.

Understand that. Heard too many stories.
When I go to the dealer it is 60 to 90 minutes. There is a quick change place near me that is about 10 minutes and about $120. You just stay in the car. Nope, not going to try them.

$120 for a quick place? Geez! That is what I just paid at my Canadian dealership

...don't go to a quick place. If you can, change it yourself if the dealership isn't available. Quick place put the wrong oil in my car and it got hot. Lesson learned.

Dealer service dept isn't going to put their master technician on oil change duty. That's the job they promote the porters to after they've washed enough cars.

Kia dealer service isn't going to be any worse or better than Genesis/Hyundai one. Or the typical neighborhood speedy oil change place.

There is only 1 way I can be absolutely sure the job is done right...

Even dealers mess up all the time. If you can do it yourself, much more convenient, cheaper, and it'd be well done. Not to mention you'd use better oil than the bulk crap dealers use. Plus it's a good time to check everything all around for leaks, and clean everything. But going back to the subject, a Kia dealer would be stupid not to do an oil change on an engine they're fully familiar with.

Kia dealer responded and have no issue doing. Just will not do warranty or recall work. Confirmed same procedure at Genesis 3.3 TT regarding removal of under engine cover and the circular panel for filter

I guess most oil filters are universal. My son took his Kia to a Subaru dealer for his 1st oil change.

That's what I thought. My only concern would be the crap oil dealers use. You could take yours, but who knows if they'd actually put it in.

And NO, oil filters are not universal. I'd take an OEM filter if not doing it at a dealer. Or at least one you know fits properly. Hyundai used the blue spin-on filter forever, which is still used on my old 2.0T engine (even though it's a 2023. Kia is already using the 2.5T on the Stinger). But for some reason, the cartridge filters are all over the place. The one for the 2.5 engine is different than the 3.3 one; go figure. But maybe the same as the 3.5? Who knows.

A lot of (FWD) Lexus owners take their vehicles to Toyota dealerships for basic maintenance, as it's basically the same powertrain (and there have been Lexus dealerships which take in all models/brands for basic service).

Getting basic things done like an oil change at a Kia dealership shouldn't be an issue, but would confirm that the tech is someone who has worked on the Stinger.

^ meh, i've used a particular quick change place for ~10 years for off-cycle OCI's. i always stick to ~6 months for my changes regardless of mileage - which is always less than the OCI trigger. part of this is an old habit thing that my dad pounded in my head as a kid (actually, he said every 3 months!) for the old dino oils. but the main thing is i use different viscosity for summer than for winter. for the G70, that is the dealer-installed 0W30 synthetic which is done in the Fall as part of the "free" annual service for first 5 years in Canada. summers i use 5w40 Pennzoil Euro Synth with matching specs to what Genesis requires.

i trust the quick change place and they know me well. i bring my own oil and filter and they charge $25 for labour. yeah, i'm lazy, but whatever - i'll wear that. i used to do my own changes but i just can't be bothered any more when i can drive 5 minutes to the quick change and i'm home 15 minutes later. i get out of my car, go down in to the pit (larger chain stores don't allow this), talk to the guys and watch their work. i've never had any cause for concern. but i know my setup is not the norm so i understand general resistance to use quick change places.

that said, i have no less fears about the dealership oil changes after seeing numerous instances on my current and past cars. i know the master techs at dealerships are not doing the oil changes,.. i have zero interest using the dealer for the out of pocket OCI's. i cringe every time i have to interface with them.

If you have a good one, stick with them. I used the same guy for a few years too because I could trust him. Too many horror stores to choose one at random though.

I've not done my own for the past 30 years. At 47 decided not to crawl under cars any more. Over the years I've added other chores to that list too.

ya like climbing ladders and trees...
