  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 Sport 2.0T 6 Speed Owners-- how is the gearbox and shifting experience?

The only thing I don't like about the US version is the missing exterior "sport" elements found on CAN versions and the 3.3T Sport model, such as the dark finish 5 spoke wheels and the dark chrome accents. The 19" wheels still look good, but I prefer the 5 spoke version. Maybe I can trade with someone up North that likes the pitchfork design wheels and make everyone happy.

Other than that I can't wait to test drive one!

Dang, I didn't know the 2.0T 6spd didn't come with the sport wheels... Either way, I am kind of considering getting a lower 3.3T trim to and see if anyone wants to trade for the 5 spoke sport wheels just to save some cash, as I can get the other options I want in a lower trim (ie LSD and 3.3T engine). I really couldn't care less about the HUD, lane keep assist, and other laziness enhancing "safety" features found in the sport trim, but I really do like those wheels.

(EDIT: initially had my facts mixed up)

Redline reviews is my favorite video blog vehicle site, and I consider Sofyan's opinion very similar to mine when he reviews cars with a manual. For my expectations, I think the 6MT version will suit my needs, coming from a 2014 A4 manual. The build configuration will probably frustrate many people shopping this car, but it's perfect for me as it keeps the cost down for options that I don't really care for. Sunroof is almost never used in my cars, and the leatherette quality is good enough for me, especially since it has heated and cooled seats.

I enjoyed Sofyan's review, grateful for the details given. I was a bit confused, though, because didn't he refer to what looked like regular chrome as "dark chrome" on the Sport version?? I think we need to wait for the order guide and build-your-own to be sure-sure about the configs that will be available.
It's possible that the 2.0T Sport-Manual might have limited options? E.g., comes with dark five-spoke wheels OR it's an option to upgrade to the "pitchfork" wheels (and Lexicon audio)??

In the comments of the Redline review, it said the 2.0T Sport was reviewed during the day in bright sunlight, while the 3.3T Sport was reviewed later in the day, so some differences weren't noticed. I think this was referring to the mistake that Sofyan said the rear tail lights were full LED, but it sure doesn't look like dark chrome or bronze.

Also, I read somewhere that the 2.0T may offer an appearance package, which would include the 5 spoke dark rims and the bronze/dark chrome accents. It may have been on this forum, but I'll look again and post a link later.

Any Canadian buyers take delivery of a manual transmission model yet??

Any Canadian buyers take delivery of a manual transmission model yet??

The first units will land in Canada momentarily. I expect a few deliveries in August.

so i recently learned that the RWD 6MT trims will be arriving for delivery/test drives in Canada within the next two weeks - or sooner. this will be the first chance to actually test out one of these since only the AWD 8AT trims have been available so far.

i am very curious to see how the drivetrain pairs together, and how the gearbox and clutch actuation feels. a big concern for me will be the power from the 2.0T since i'm coming from much more power (albeit from a non-turbo engine).

i would love more info on when the 2.5T would realistically replace the 2.0T, since that engine paired with the 6MT would be genius - at least on paper.

one thing i recall from driving my bro-in-law's 2013 Genesis coupe is that the rpms 'hang' up way too high while shifting. the revs take a second or two to drop down. it is really odd and quite annoying, and makes quick upshifts not smooth.

I'll let you guys know in a couple weeks. :)

so i just learned that 2.0T Sport RWD 6MT models are available for delivery in western Canada. not sure if units have already been delivered elsewhere.

i assume this means that demo units are available as well - or will be very soon.

Only a small shipment was received and almost all of them were instantly sold, so not a lot of demo units just yet. I'll have a Siberian Ice 2.0T Sport to play with beginning tomorrow, so if you want to see something let me know.

the 6MT lives!

You buy it? :)

Hey everyone. I just took delivery of my 2020 G70 2.0 with manual tranny and loving it. I thought I'd share with you my thoughts on driving the manual. First and foremost I'm still in my break in period so I haven't dared push it remotely close to redline so I cannot attest to any real performance issues. I would say shifting is quite notchy with longish throws for my liking. I previously drove a 2015 A4 with 6MT and that shifter was like butter...so I'm quite disappointed with the G70's notchy shifter even though I test drove it several times before purchasing. Speaking of test drives, one of the sticking points for me purchasing it at first was the armrest was in the way when shifting. My elbow would hit the armrest when shifting to 2nd, 4th, and 6th. I tried raising the driver's seat and that seemed to help but my head was getting close to the headliner. Miraculously once I started driving my own G70, the armrest didn't bother me.

The clutch feels great. I have no complaints there. It has a nice level of pressure and the grab point is spot on for me.

Driving the buttery shifter of the A4 for four years is still in my head. Either I get used to the G70's shifter or I may look to install a short shifter kit. Which by the way does anyone recommend one for the G70?

Hey volnedan. I was leasing a 2015 A4 and returned it in favour of the G70 2.0 with 6MT. I find the shifter to be notchy especially coming from shifting my A4 for the last four years. As you may agree the A4 shifts very smoothly. I really miss it. But that didn't stop me from buying the G70. I may look into installing a short shifter if I don't eventually get used to it. I hope this helps.

In here looking to see if someone found a short shifter or a weighted shift knob option that helped with the notchy shiting?

^ haven't seen anything yet...but haven't looked much either. i have no issue with the shift feel, no notchiness in my ride. i would be interested in a slightly shorter throw, however.

I too wouldn't mind a shorter throw. But even stock with the smaller engine the car is more fun to drive than any automatic.

Something is wrong with the forum software, it only lets me like this post once instead of the 500 times I clicked on it.

I agree with the shifts being pretty solid right out of the box and when I say notchy, I may be a describing the shifts a little too critically but there's definitely some room for improvement. Short throws would make this a lot better in my opinion and I have always loved how the weighted shift knobs feel. Just my $0.02.
