  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

In case anyone is wondering, I found a way to break my windshield before any windshields were available to replacement within about 800 miles.

I have the 3.3T Advanced, meaning no HUD, or Rain sensors.

I work for the dealer and luckily got a little bit better of a deal, but expect repair costs to be a minimum of $800 for the basic windshield (due to 'condensation sensors'), and a few hundred dollars more for those with the rain sensing / display.

Day 6 if anyone was wondering.. Thats how long it took me to break it. It's currently garaged for the next 4-7 days until we can get one in state..

No windshield coverage on your insurance?

Unfortunately I had it on a dealer plate under company insurance while I waited for us to fix our dms system to incorporate Genesis, It won't be under my policy until then, I'll keep the receipt and give it a shot.

Ah. Gotcha. Even so, $800 is a pretty penny. I've never owned a car where the windshield was even half that expensive to replace!

Now I've got just one more thing to stress out about. Hah.

Yeah, I avoided the Elite package for that reason with the rain sensing. Dealer Cost on it is about $500 +installation, so not awful, but beyond what I was expecting. I've never had one break before so hopefully it's an anomaly, my fault for waiting to get a chip fixed.

I've heard so many loud bangs on my windshield that I'm surprised I have no chips or cracks yet!

Are you referring to road debris kicked up by other vehicles hitting your windshield or something else? I know the G70 sits very low, and the lower the car the more "in the kill zone" a windshield is for road debris.

So we're talking $1k for a windshield on the sport models. :suicide:

My truck avoidance activity is going to be a little more aggressive now

Yeah like rocks off the rear wheels of trucks and tractors.

I just had mine replaced today.

Dealer charged the following (note this is Canadian $ at Edmonton Genesis):

Glass - $1,313.62
Install - $169.00
"recalibrate adaptive cruise" - $170.00
"shop supplies" - $10.20
Tax - $83.14
Total - $1,745.96

A few things to note...

The install was done at a glass shop across the street and yet the dealer needs to charge me "shop supplies"... WFT lol.

Also, with the "recalibrate adaptive cruise" my bill says "performed windshield calibration. Road tested vehicle and inspected operation of camera and found that camera is good". Now this is all fine, except I dropped my car off with 29,932km and picked it up with 29,932km on it and the glass shop is 240 meters away. So I honestly believe the car wasn't driven at all to "inspect operation of camera" which is totally fine by me since I think it is a bullshit charge anyway.

Moral of the story - don't take your car to the dealership for a windshield lol

Also - I made an insurance claim so they will be paying everything but $250. :) (I am guessing my glass coverage won't be $59 at renewal...)

The billing program some dealers use has "shop supplies" built in and they charge a percentage of the bill for it. I had that on a bill when a Buick dealer charged me for diagnostics for a heated seat that did not work. Of course, I asked what supplies were used and they admitted none. Took the charge off.

Never hesitate to ask for details. IMO, it is the cost of doing business. The grocery store does not charge you separately for electricity to run the freezer when you buy ice cream, shops should include rags in the overhead. Its a sly money grab.

^ I agree 100%. I would have taken an issue had I been paying personally but I wasn't going to get worked up since it was going to be a claim. That said it is just another reason I hate dealerships. Every time I see something like this the odds of my next car being a Tesla increases.

So what did they say when you said wtf to them about the shop supplies?

I didn't say anything since it was an insurance claim and wasn't worth my time to even bring it up. I am just not surprised as the service side of this dealership isn't the best and it is fairly typical of dealerships in general.

Definitely why I like the 5 years, 100,000km service included so I don't need to waste my time arguing with a service guy every few months over stuff like this.

Yup. Of course service might figured the same thing, charge for it and see if insurance kicks it back.

Tends to be the type of dealer more then anything, my dealership doesn't charge to re-calibrate, generally they end up just scheduling it with a separate glass company, no dealer in my company keeps a glass guy on site. As for the price of the windshield, that is probably marked up a bit but not too crazy for the sensing one.. The Basic windshield (Condensation sensor w/ LKA) Retails at $733,

Hey guys!
I am in Toronto, Canada and need to replace my G70 2.0 Windshield..... can anyone recommend someone good? Good work, not trying to get ripped off :) What were your experiences (for those of you that had to replace it)? I don't have windshield replacement on my insurance -_-

How can you not have insurance on a new car? If you have a loan, which it seems most on this site have, the loan company requires what has become known as full coverage. That would include glass breakage. Most states in the US have no deductible on Windshield breakage and you have no insurance. My Insurance license are still in effect and I checked, our company does not even offer a policy in ANY country, and that includes Canada, that does not include glass breakage. Why did you do this?

I fortunately have full replacement glass zero deductible on both of my vehicles so here in Arizona rock chips and pit’s are inevitable. I forsee a new windshield in mine within the next six months to a year

I think you misunderstood. I HAVE insurance, but windshield replacement is NOT covered on my insurance. And I did not do it on purpose. Had I known, I would've made sure to add it. I can go through insurance but I would be paying a $1K deductible. Replacing the windshield on my own is approx $1400-1500. I'd rather do that then have a claim on my insurance and start seeing higher insurance rates next year. Insurance in Canafa v. USA is vastly different.
