  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 Windshields

I fortunately have full replacement glass zero deductible on both of my vehicles so here in Arizona rock chips and pit’s are inevitable. I forsee a new windshield in mine within the next six months to a year
I too am in Arizona and it’s crazy how many windshields I have had to replace on my vehicles. I finally had a chip on my windshield that turned into a huge crack. First time replacing my windshield on the G70 and it’s taken a week for the insurance company to authorize a new windshield since they are special order for the G70. Now lets see how long it takes to come in! Thank god for windshield coverage!

I guess I am the next in line to have my windshield replaced. I got a rock chip that turned into a 2 ft crack in my windshield. Only place in town that can change it is the dealership. My dealership quoted me a price of $1235 out the door. Compared to what other people have paid I thought that was pretty reasonable. Still waiting on an appointment. My Service adviser is setting everything up and ordering the glass. I'll post the here later with how it turns out and the final price. Glad my insurance covers windshield replacement.

Full glass coverage is very cheap. Some states even mandate it. I cannot imagine anyone not having it to save a few pennies. Over the years, three windshields and one door window.

They should also check alignment of the camera.

"They should also check alignment of the camera."

That's part of the install price. One of the reasons I had to go to the dealership instead of a glass shop is because no one else in town could re-calibrate the camera. I checked with Safelite first and then a few other glass shops and got the same response everywhere. I have an appointment tomorrow morning at 9am. I'll be glad to get it done and over with.

I am skeptical that they actually do anything to the camera's. When I had my windshield replaced, the dealership had a charge for aligning the cameras and testing but the car didn't register any mileage so basically they drove it in the shop and back out. So not sure what their test entailed...

Done on car, no need to drive it. It is done with instruments.

Maybe, but as I mentioned above and have quoted below, they claim to have driven the car even though they didn't. $170 is a lot for that is all I am saying when I don't think there is much to it...

I just had mine replaced today.

Dealer charged the following (note this is Canadian $ at Edmonton Genesis):

Glass - $1,313.62
Install - $169.00
"recalibrate adaptive cruise" - $170.00
"shop supplies" - $10.20
Tax - $83.14
Total - $1,745.96

A few things to note...

The install was done at a glass shop across the street and yet the dealer needs to charge me "shop supplies"... WFT lol.

Also, with the "recalibrate adaptive cruise" my bill says "performed windshield calibration. Road tested vehicle and inspected operation of camera and found that camera is good". Now this is all fine, except I dropped my car off with 29,932km and picked it up with 29,932km on it and the glass shop is 240 meters away. So I honestly believe the car wasn't driven at all to "inspect operation of camera" which is totally fine by me since I think it is a bullshit charge anyway.

Moral of the story - don't take your car to the dealership for a windshield lol

Also - I made an insurance claim so they will be paying everything but $250. :) (I am guessing my glass coverage won't be $59 at renewal...)

The $170 being a lot is based on what? If it was done with a $200 instrument, yes, it may be. If it was done with a $5000 instrument it is cheap.

You are probably correct on how far they drove it. If they did not feel wind blowing in their face they know the windshield is working. Instruments would do any other testing.

I'm not arguing that they aren't overcharging, but... I see this sort of argument a lot. You aren't paying just for the five or ten minutes of labor involved. You are also paying for all the training that may have been required for them to know how to do the adjustment, and to get it right on the first try. There may also be specialized equipment involved. That cost something too. Those who do the best job, make it look like it was nothing at all.

Not arguing or complaining, I am saying I am skeptical regarding what they actually do for that money when they claim they road test, but didn't put any miles on the vehicle. I have had other vehicles with camera's in the windshield replaced by a glass shop and the entire glass/camera alignment is done for about $350. So the dealer charging $170 seems steep just for that seems out of line. In my original post I was mostly just saying my particular Genesis (Hyundai) dealer seems to gouge a bit on windshields and I wouldn't recommend them.

I meant to take a photo of my bill and post it but my windshield is done and they did a great job. The more I am on here the more I appreciate my dealership. Hearing other people's stories about their dealerships makes me glad mine isn't that way. Just for reference, my dealership told me up front that the calibration was done in the shop, not on the road. Also Adam tried to find an after market windshield so I didn't have to pay full price for a genuine Genesis windshield but couldn't find one. I'll try to post a picture of the bill later so others have it for reference.

Finally got off my butt and took a photo of my bill for the windshield. Hope this helps give a point of reference.

I watched a G70 replacement video on YouTube the other day and was taken back by how light the windshield appeared. He one handed the new one on to the car!

Most glass is pretty light for those that have been doing it for years.

In case anyone is wondering, I found a way to break my windshield before any windshields were available to replacement within about 800 miles.

I have the 3.3T Advanced, meaning no HUD, or Rain sensors.

I work for the dealer and luckily got a little bit better of a deal, but expect repair costs to be a minimum of $800 for the basic windshield (due to 'condensation sensors'), and a few hundred dollars more for those with the rain sensing / display.

Day 6 if anyone was wondering.. Thats how long it took me to break it. It's currently garaged for the next 4-7 days until we can get one in state..
Just had my windshield replaced on my G70 2.0T Advanced. $730 for the windshield and $600 and 3 hours to get cameras recalibrated! The LKA and rain sensing seemed to work normally before recalibration. Now LKA seems a little more aggressive at keeping me in the lane. I doubt Genesis spends this kind of time on each car coming off the line.

Correction: That's a G70 Elite

Did you check your Lane keeping assist settings in the center cluster? they may have flipped it over to advanced Lane keeping assist versus standard

Have always used the Active LKA setting versus Standard.

Safelite took care of mine with an OEM windshield. They told me they couldn't calibrate the lane-keeping/rain sensor with their equipment, which I expected. Had an appointment with my dealer the next day...$120. USAA reimbursed me the cost since the calibration is supposed to be covered with a Safelite replacement. I'm a happy camper!
