If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My car is currently at the dealer for service on a cold Day, and they went to start it and the battery failed. The car started with a jump start. My car has 50k miles on it. The quote for them to replace the battery is 715 dollars. That seems extreme! Any advice on what should I do? Should I go aftermarket and if I do which one should I get?

I found what appears to be the exact same spec battery from Batteries Plus.

I just ordered it (will take a week to get it here). I have time because my battery is still working fine, but it tests as marginal/bad.
I also found the right size battery in the auto stores here, but those were 80 Ah instead of 105 Ah like the factory battery.

I have an advance auto close by that has the diehard agm battery that has 100ah. Is that respectable? Edit. I actually have a batteries plus store close by that have it in stock. Should I go with die hard or the duracel battery?

I think that it is probably a coin toss between the two.
Two things pushed me to the Duracell.
1. Four year warranty instead of three. (Honestly, you should get at least five years out of it, so that probably doesn't matter.)
2. The reserve spec doesn't match the amp hour spec on the Diehard. (This is probably just a marketing mistake.)

Just thought about something. Should I get the battery tested independently before purchasing a new battery? The dealer probably left something on in my car and forcing me to buy a new battery from them?

Original battery? If so, skip the test and replace. Plenty of cold weather ahead so don't play around.
I got a DieHard from Advance auto for $200+, not the dealer quote you got.

DieHard Platinum AGM Battery: H9 Group Size, 950 CCA, 1000 CA, 100 Amp Hour Capacity,

Our 2015 3.8 ultimate sedan has 73K miles and the original battery and rear brakes. Getting a bit nervous... The Duracell Platinum 95R battery looks like a great choice.

Okay. Did you change it out yourself? It seems pretty straight forward to do the replacement. I will request for my car back, and complete the battery swap myself. Now I must have to choose between Duracel a diehard . Duracel is 50 dollars more with an extra year warranty. Both are significantly cheaper than going through the dealer.

Advance did the change at no charge. I did tip the guy though. I don't cart around 66 pound batteries any more.
The plug a unit in the OBD port for power so no settings are lost.

Do note that they should offer you a $30 discount for signing up to get email and text marketing spam. Just block the email and the text after you get the battery. That's what I'm doing.

I ended up getting the diehard battery from advance auto parts. I completed the install on my own. It would have been easy if I didn't bump into a stripped nut. The hedge nut that holds down the negative terminal kit was completely rounded. I had to buy a special nut extractor from lowes to remove it. Then I replaced it with a standard nut and washer. My only other concern after my install was the vent tube doesn't seem like a firm fit. I need to figure out how to make the vent hole plug fit firmly. Other than that very simple install. Don't let the dealer overcharge you for this. Please remember to cap the other side of the vent hole for optimal battery venting. Thst step is usually overlooked.

So does Sams and Costco not carry these type of batteries? My AGM battery so far seems fine but coming up on 4 years old this year and that seems like when batteries start to crap out generally. Typically I’ve been able to tell on prior cars when starts get slow you know the battery is getting tired and your on borrowed time.

I believe that Sam's may have once, but they don't right now. It looks like Costco does carry one that fits.

It is not one of the more popular sizes. When I replaced mine, some stores did not have it on the floor but could get it. I changed mine at 5 years ahead of a very long trip and did not want to get stuck out in the Rockes someplace. AGM batteries are supposed to last a lot longer.

I went to Advance Auto. Paid a bit more but they installed it and I don't carry 66# batteries around these days.

I got the Duracell 2 months ago. Install was a breeze and my local batteries plus had it on the shelf. Costco could source the battery I needed but would have to order it and wait a week. Price difference was so small that having the peace of mind was worth it. That dealer price is garbage. Don’t accept that.

My Duracell came in yesterday and I installed it last night. It has a Jan 24 date code and tested as 100% charged. It came with a new vent plug and a vent connector tube.
The vent connector tube that was on the old battery fit, but was way too loose in the new battery. The new vent connector tube fit the new battery well, but was way too loose connecting to the car's vent hose. I had to trim the end of the hose off, and use a plastic micro-irrigation clamp on the hose. I wonder if the places that install the battery for you (Batteries Plus offered to install it) would go to this trouble to make sure that the vent tube wasn't going to fall out at first bump in the road?

I am faced with the same situation. The new die hard battery came with a vent plug but not a connector tub. The old vent hose fits loosely. I still left it as is. I will check today if it dropped out after a week of driving. I am thinking maybe a piece of tape might help.

interesting, my duracell fit in my 2018 g80 sport tightly, just plug and play, no issues. never easy is it!

Update. Randomly my car would lose complete power and wouldn't start. Electronics weren't working. This happened to me 3 times since I installed my battery. I decided to go back and check my work and I notice the postive terminal the hook was flip upside down. See attached picture of the piece I am referring to. 0722 in the picture. I believe this to be the culprit because when it's flipped in the right position the clamp gets tighter as you tighten the nut. I am guessing this was most likely the problem. Smh.
