Is it OK to change drive modes (Normal, Sport, Eco) while the car is moving?

Sure, I do it all the time. Do it at some of the lower speeds and you will see the tach change as it changes gear.

Do it all the time, sport for passing and merging, eco when cruising. And normal for city driving.

It is absolutely ok to change the drive mode while car is in motion. I do it regularly in my 2018 G80 Sport AWD.
Going from Sport to Eco mode it almost feels like it disables the gas pedal ;)

The order of the change seems odd to me. Normal (default startup mode) -> ECO -> Sport.
I'd prefer N -> S -> E as I typically drive in N, frequently go N -> S and rarely/never use E.

FYI, If you hold the Drive Mode button for 3 seconds it will go into SNOW Mode. I haven't found any information on what this actually does.

For 2018 G80 this is documented in the Owners Manual pages 3-101, 5-13 and 5-54->56.

Probably a lot of owners forget it even exists. I did read about it someplace before. IIRC, it softens the gas pedal like ECO mode but it changes the balance of the HTRAC system,

Winter Testing the Hyundai Genesis H-TRAC » AutoGuide.com News

I've not had my 2018 G80 3.3 HTRAC for a winter season yet so not had real world experience in Snow mode. We don't get a lot of snow down here in the South, but it does occur. I'm actually more looking forward to Sport mode on RWD biased car in the snow! I've already been chastised by my companies HR department for doing donuts in the snowy parking lot at work in my 2011 Genesis 3.8.

Snow mode reduces the torque at the wheels to prevent wheel spin on snow, ice, rain. I find it very useful in a first rain when there is oil slick. It prevents wheel spin from starting at a light or on a slight incline or going around curves that are semi flooded from poor drainage.

Does anyone know if SNOW MODE starts you in 2nd gear?

I've tried the snow mode here in N. IL/S. WI and it is really nice to get you going from a stop. I usually only use it if there's 3 or more inches on the road. Haven't had to use it too much these last couple of winters.

Forgot about that, yes.
I am not convinced SNOW MODE starts you in 2nd gear. I cannot find any documentation indicating this.

My test results on a 2018 G80 SPORT HTRAC (AWD) are inconclusive.
Test 1
Vehicle stopped / Normal Mode (NM) / Drive Indicator (DI)=D
Change to Snow Mode (SM). Drive Indicator = D
Downshift with paddle shifter. DI=1. I'm not sure if car was in 1 or 2 before the paddle DOWNshift, as there is no 0 gear to downshift to ;)

Test 2
Vehicle stopped / NM / DI=D
Changed to SM. DI=D
UPshift with paddle shifter.
DI=2. I'm not sure car was in 1st or 2nd before the paddle UPshift, as car will not allow you to upshift to 3rd gear when car is not moving.

Test 3
Vehicle stopped / NM / DI=1 (Used paddle shifter to downshift)
Changed to SM.
DI=1

Test 4
Vehicle stopped / NM / DI=2 (Used paddle UPshifter to change display from D -> 2)
Changed to SM.
DI=2

Test 5
Vehicle stopped / SM / DI=2 (Used paddle UPshifter to change display form D -> 2)
Ran car up to about 15MPH (in paddleshift mode tranny will not upshift to 3rd gear automatically)
Came to a complete stop
DI=D (Not in manual mode anymore. Actually this occurs if you start in Eco, Normal or Sport mode also)

Anybody know how/if you can configure Drive Indicator to show gear withOUT going into manual/paddle mode?
I may hookup an OBD tool/scanner to see if current gear is shown/available.

Conclusion:
I'll use the paddleshifter to manually change to 2nd gear when conditions warrant it.

Would be nice to know for sure. If I start in normal, eco, or sport, pulling the left paddle shows 1, pulling the right paddle shows 2.

In snow mode, pulling the left paddle shows 1 pulling the right paddle shows 1. Since it will not go to 3, I have to wonder if it is taking me from 2 to 1.

try it this way:

complete stop. use paddle down, should show "1" then put into snow mode and drive and see if it upshifts.

complete stop. use paddle down, should show "1" up shift to "2" then put into snow mode and see if it down shifts

I'll test 1st ine above when I get time.

2nd line above was done in Test 4 above.
Test 4
Vehicle stopped / NM / DI=2 (Used paddle UPshifter to change display from D -> 2)
Changed to SM.
DI=2
There is now way to easily tell if the tranny downshifts when the car is stopped.

Not a valid test when static. I put it in 1 and changed modes and nothing happened.
I put it in 2 changed modes and nothing happened. I doubt Sport mode would start you in 2nd gear.

It may be different once you start to move but could not try that yet.

it would appear that the car does not start in "2" in snow mode.

here is what I did..

got off the freeway on way home from work, put into snow mode.. as I slowed for a red light I pressed the upshift button, was doing 40ish and the car was in 6th. . it downshifted itself all the way to 1, when the light changed I pressed the upshift again and the car was in 1, I saw it change to 2.

I did this 4 times with the same results, the car downshifts itself to one and stays there in snow mode.

and FWIW snow mode on dry asphalt sucks, pedal to the floor and the car was chugging along like a fat kid on a moped.

OMG, you just reminded me of my cousin, a big kid. We both worked at the same place about 7 miles from home. He lived next door. His schedule was a half hour earlier and he left for home one day on his Honda 50. There was a strong headwind so even with his head start I beat him home.
