G80 retrofits - Qi charger and Sport front fascia

Has anybody talked about, done or known anybody who has made either of these mods to their Genesis? I have a 2015 5.0 Ultimate and wouldn't trade it for the world, but I would legit entertain the idea of paying maybe more money than I should to retrofit this stuff. I've had a brand new 3.8 Sport package G80 loaner and while I miss my 5.0 like crazy, the front fascia and all the other black chrome and dark sporty wheels just look fantastic. This one would definitely be an expensive rabbit hole to go down, I'm just wondering if anybody has.

The other is maybe not such a big deal. I bet the charger insert for G90 isn't any different from that insert in a Genesis except for maybe whatever wire/harness communicates with the CAN bus. Since turning the charger on and off is done through the DIS (seriously, why?) I'm thinking a) you've got to have a way to communicate with the part and, b) you'd have to maybe retro-flash the cluster to have the updated UI from the Genesis rebrand. I wish it was as simple as plugging in the part and just plugging it in but I'm guessing there's more to it. Anybody interested or have any knowledge.

It sucks that on our never-gonna-get-AA-or-CP Ultimate cars, we also don't have the wireless charger that all the G80 owners say they don't use because they have to be plugged in to use AA/CP... Lol! On the other hand, I can leave my phone in the wireless charger of my loaner G80 for 7-10 minutes and only gain 1%, so maybe it's not really that useful anyway.

there are several threads on fascia retrofits.. just have to search, it is fairly easy, but a bit pricey. but yes the Sport Fascia does work on the other models.

as for the Qi charger, why bother? there are 100s of aftermarket Qi charges for cars on ebay and amazon, pick your pleasure. Never used mine in my G80 and have it disabled and I keep a metal flashlight in that compartment. My wife has never used the one in her Camry either because it won't charge the phone while in its case. so.. pointless.

Wireless charging is overrated. it takes 1 second to plug in a cable.. personally don't get the whole "wireless charging" craze.

(Also, look at the phone market, apparently MOST other people find it actually or at least potentially useful since all the major manufacturers are including it. I think it's a nice feature, that I'd like to have the ability to use in my car, where even if it only charges 2% while I'm on my 15 minutes commute to work, that's better than the 4% it would have drained in that same time. You've also already made it very clear on this forum that you use the Smartphone integration in your G80, so you don't have the ability to not be plugged in while using that stuff anyway. Where you think it's easy to plug in a cable, I can't stand cables running all over the interior of my car, being in the way of things. I could not care less that you've disabled yours to put a metal flashlight in that spot. I absolutely positively don't care what your wife in her overpriced appliance of a Camry does, and honestly while we're throwing opinions out there, that knowledge sours my opinion of you, since you must have been ok with her purchasing such a garbage vehicle. (I feel like I'm opening myself up for the same BS I always get from my disdain for Toyota, so let me just quickly clear up that they're not inherently bad cars, but I think Toyota is too proud of the reputation they've built. They aren't better at making reliable cars than anybody else, they just refuse to use current design on anything, so once everyone else perfects something and brings the price down, Toyota implements it as a new feature that's already 5 years old and then make people pay more than other automakers even though they haven't had to develop said tech... As for other wireless chargers, see my previous pet peeve about having cables and extend that to "other junk" about my cabin. I don't want any wires, windshield mounts, vent clips, cup holder inserts or whatever else blocking airflow, or buttons, or view or anything else. I think Genesis did a good job putting the charger where they have and making it easy to use. I also use my phone without a case, so that's not a consideration and my phone with my usage typically doesn't last long enough to get me through a day, so even small top-offs are appreciated.

FWIW I have no love for Toyota, but there is a old saying.. happy wife, happy life. it is what she wanted, so it is what I bought for her, I don't drive it, maybe 3 times in the past 3 years and her previous 2007 one I never drove.

Actually on the same page with you about Toyota and Lexus. overpriced and out dated, they live on reputation not innovation, cookie cutter cars is what I call them, same as Honda Accords and Civic, but again. happy wife, happy life.

But my opinion of trying to integrate the factory unit into an older car stands, there are 100s of various options out there. . no need to have one on the windshield or cables everywhere. I am sure with a little innovation one could figure out how to integrate one into the same spot on the console without having to deal with the canbus issues.


heck might even be able to do it with the OEM one, just wire it to the fuse panel, and maybe include a hidden rocker switch to disable it when needed. But that one costs nearly $400.

a quick google shows there are several companies that offer an aftermarket unit for many makes/models that give an OEM appearance.

I don't know what the 2015-2016 console area looks like, but there are Qi mats that stick to flat services, providing the same basic design as the G80 has:

If the area is anything similar to the 2018 G80 then any of those would likely fit and work, and while it might not be 100% OEM, $25 vs $400 to gets you to the same place.

Correct. I've had it for two years now. Maybe 3 times on a long 2 or 3 day trip I'd toss the phone in but it takes a very long time. Before you invest a lot of time and effort, try an aftermarket one either at home or in the car to see how long it takes to charge. Maybe handy on your desk or nightstand. I'd not miss it in the car.

I could say the same for his initial post, and I certainly hope you're not implying that my post is not based on logic and reason just because the subjective parts may not match your opinions. My post asked a very specific question and explained at least a bit of my reasoning about retrofitting, I wasn't asking for someone to impose their opinions of it's conceptual validity on me, which I also tried to explain.

If you're so "labored by my rant", you could have simply stopped reading and forgotten it, but instead you've decided to do what forum trolls do and start in on how Mr. I's opinion (rather off-topic as it was) is apparently more valid than the opinions that I offered in response. I'd love for you do explain what Mr. I's wife's Camry (I really thought we were on a Genesis forum here...) has anything to offer to the initial question I posed. If I had asked "Hey G80 owners, would you miss your wireless charger if you didn't have it or it was broken?" then his comments would have been perfectly tailored to my question. But it isn't. I'm so glad to see so many on the forum being repeat customers to the brand. My new wife will be the next one to get a new(er) car and I'd love for the GV80 to be on the short list for her, if they'd ever release it.

I didn't take your post out of context, I understood where you were coming from.. it was a bit snarky but it didn't offend me, my opinion is my opinion and you know what they say about opinions...

sometimes the written word is a bit difficult to detect the underlying meaning, I get that.. my point wasn't so much comparing my wife's vehicle to the Genesis, it was more about the lack of value I find in wireless charging technology, especially since one has to be wired to use the tethering features of the vehicle, or because most don't work with cases, or the OEM in vehicle spot is too small for the larger now mainstream devices .

It is beyond me why wireless CarPlay wasn't included with the wireless charger, especially since the car has Wi-Fi ability, and can connect to your home Wi-Fi, allowing an ad-hoc Wi-Fi to a phone shouldn't be that difficult, I might then find value in the feature.

Regardless, my second post was a bit more one topic with the various ways you could accomplish what you want.. OEM is nice, but not the only option, especially considering the cost invloved.

I didn't take his reply as being argumentative or defensive, I took it more as "hey don't side track my thread", I get that way sometimes as well, I got his point, which is why my reply was more one point with his iquiry.

yes you can swap the body parts, yes you can add wireless charging.

in both cases it's all about how much you want to spend to do it..

Moving forward, my wish is that you get your Genny exactly the way you want it, including your Qi charging. Our cars are reflections of ourselves so I understand your passion for what you want. And if you and Mr. Incred want to debate Toyota's till Mars becomes livable, go for it lol. Let's just treat each other with respect.

Thanks for mentioning my Ibiza, but your ESG is one of the best colors on these cars as skipgen and I have bantered about his often. So enjoy and make her your own, and let us know if you come up with a good solution.
