I just turned in my 2015 Genesis Signature for a base 2017 G80. I know its trivial but the valve covers for the tires looks like cheap plastic. I seem to recall metal valve covers on my 2015. Did my dealer neglect to put on the correct valve covers?

If a dealer puts them on (which I don't know is true or not) then they are accessories and not standard equipment. Contact your dealer parts department and see if you can purchase the tire valve covers you want. While you are there, you can look at other cars in inventory to see what they have, and look at the sticker to see if they are listed as an accessory (if they have metal ones).

The dealer doesn't put on any valve stem caps. They are on the car when they arrive to the dealer. They deal will take them off to adjust the tire pressure during PDI, so the only way that they would be different is if they lost them during the PDI. The 2017s had black plastic caps from the factory. So the ones on your car are correct.

Ohhh stem caps, I'm like what is so special about the plastic valve covers :D and why would someone go change them.

Be careful buying metal valve caps, I bought some that looked really nice but they got frozen to the valve stems, almost couldn't get them off. It would be real expensive replacing the TPM valve stems! Stick with good old plastic. That said, there are a plethora of "designer" valve caps at a place like Pep Boys.

My 2005 Honda Odyssey actually had a recall on the OEM metal valve caps. Honda mailed me plastic caps.

Never had an issue with metal caps, but then my other car is a garage queen.

Anytime there are two dissimilar metals in contact with each other, a chemical reaction occurs that can cause corrosion. Usually it is not significant, but could be exacerbated by salt, etc.

Every G80 valve stem cap that I have seen, including mine, are metal with green on the end to signify nitrogen filled.

That's the dealer doing that. You got charged a pretty penny for those as well.

I personally would stay away from the metal ones...don't want them to corrode and stick to the valve stems. But whatever you do make sure to get the ones with O rings to keep water out of the TPMS sensors. You can get a box of them on Amazon for cheap.

Free nitrogen for the life of the ownership; standard with every Hyundai or Genesis sold by my dealer. Along with free oil changes.

I don't remember nitrogen filled tires being an option. It's not a line item on my invoice. I wanted nitrogen anyway. To try and save a few bucks on valve caps is really trying to save "a pretty penny" compared to the overall car's price. I would think you'd want the green capped valve caps to remind others to use nitrogen. As Dai Uy Ted said in his post..."Free nitrogen for the life of the ownership; standard with every Hyundai or Genesis sold by my dealer. Along with free oil changes." is also a benefit from my dealer. I've had metal valve caps on various cars and never experienced corrosion and sticking to the stems, but to each their own.

I've worked at a couple dealerships that put nitrogen in every car coming through. They found a way for the customer to pay for it somehow without them knowing. Bump the doc fee or something up to cover it.

You also live in FL. Come up here to the salt belt states, and everything rusts or corrodes. I've seen it many times.

Free air is 78% nitrogen, unless your a professional race car driver or a jet aircraft mechanic any advantage is mostly theoretical. imho.

In my experience, nitrogen filled tires leak much more slowly than air filled tires. I observed this after purchasing tires at Costco, where they always use nitrogen at no extra charge and offer free nitrogen refill.

That's not a huge benefit, but doesn't hurt if one doesn't have to pay extra for it.
