  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G90 Owners - What did the Genesis replace for you?

2015 Lexus GS 350 F-Sport

Mercedes S63 AMG It was a hell of a car! Super exciting to drive (which was a problem for me) and it would get up to 140 mph with no trouble...which is a bad idea. It was really starting to have maintenance issues and needed a new transmission ($12000), broken motor mounts (replaced 2 times) and just before I sold it I was getting cylinder misfires when I really pushed the gas hard. It also had the most maddening squeak inside the cabin that I could never locate.
The G90 Ultimate is so quiet I find myself daydreaming. I drive like an adult rather then an idiot now. My wife likes driving it so much she wants a GV80 now! I have only had the car for a few weeks but from what I have read maintenance record is good and I have an extended warrantee just in case.

The 5L V8 actually sounds pretty cool with a simple mod so you can get some of that enjoyment back.

2016 Camaro 2SS Convertible.

With cars like the Lincoln Continental/Town Car and Cadillac Fleetwood, DeVille, DTS, CT6 gone from America, the G90 is an impressive way to get that experience (only better). What vehicle did you have before the G90?
Honda Pilot! It was time to turn it was time to turn my lease back in and there was a g90 on the lot that I drove and fell in love. I had never heard of the car but after that test drive I've not looked back!

While I have a GV80 and this is a G90 thread, I wanted to answer the question: Through their neglect of, or concern for, Genesis owners with cars that have lost a local dealer, Genesis has lost my trust and confidence. I will sell my GV80 before too long and I will not buy another....

I drove a 2001 Lexus LS 430 for 19 years. Completely trouble-free but just got bored. Until today I've enjoyed the G90. Today it simply would not start. Tried pushing the start button with the Fob to no avail. The analog clock began circling - very odd. Used a long stick to get the trunk open.
26 month old battery appears to be toast. I'll know tomorrow when a new one comes in. Hope the rig resets itself.

If you put in that 26 month old battery, take it back. Most batteries have at least a 3 year warranty. I drove a LS430 for about 5 years before I went to a 460.

I've driven a Hyundai Genesis since 2014. I've had three but fell in love with the Equus. My 2016 Equus went in for repair to the air suspension in mid-April. I got it back last week. Repairs were costly AND parts were hard to find.
Trying to decide if I should trade it in for a G90 or go with a Car Shield type deals for upcoming issues.

I had an Equus Ultimate 2013, which I gave to my daughter with 101,000 on the Odo.

2019 G90P replaced 2013 XTS Platinum. I liked the Auto-lock door feature on the XTS and wish the G90 had the same feature, but other than that G90 blows away the XTS in every other category. I tested out a 2020 CT6 which was the only competitor to the G90, and though they were comparably competitive with one another I felt like the Genesis definitely had the edge on comfort of ride though the CT6 handled just a little bit better.

I bought the 2017 G90 Ultimate to replace a 2001 Lexus LS430 that I had driven for 19 years. The Lexus was an outstanding vehicle. Aside from the one-time wheel bearing that Lexus fixed at their expense, I replaced three light bulbs and the windshield after 10 years of pitting. In two and a half years with the Genesis, which I love driving, I've replaced the trunk lift motor and the main battery. I live three hours from a dealer. I must say that my biggest issue is the lack of willingness to communicate with owners to solve problems. Their SOP is "bring the car in." The good news is, that I have a great local mechanic. I'm trusting that the dealerships will mature in time. I'm hoping the test of time will prove Genesis worthy of my loyalty. It is nothing short of fun to drive this 5.0.

You have hit the proverbial nail on the head for former Lexus drivers. The G90 is a superior car in most every way. Service, on the other hand, is challenging. I do think eventually we'll have standalone support. Just not sure how long that may be.

I considered all comparable vehicles when I finally made the decision to get the G90, and thus far, I haven't regretted it. In my very humble opinion, the G90 has better build quality than the 750 had, and the materials look and feel just as good, if not better. My 750 had almost every option, and was $112,000 new. The G90 has even more equipment for almost $40,000 less, so it's a no-brainer. I will say, though, that there are a couple of nits to pick.

First, in the BMW, certain settings could be made permanent, such as the brake hold feature, which I find very useful, but others may disagree. On the G90, I have to turn it on each time I drive it. However, once it's on, it is superior to the same feature on the BMW because it's not intrusive. Depending on how much one pushes the brake pedal, it will allow the car to stop and then creep forward when needed, or it can be fully engaged by pushing the pedal a bit harder, similar to the pump of the brake pedal one would do in a Mercedes. That's the best of both combined. On the BMW, every time the car came to a complete stop, including when attempting to parallel park, it would fully engage, which made it a bit annoying.

There are other things I didn't (and still don't) like about the G90. One is the "tick-tock" of the turn signal which (to me) is a bit too loud and annoying. Another source of annoyance was the incessant announcement of upcoming traffic light cameras; that nearly drove me insane. I still don't know how I managed to turn it off, but at least that is no longer bothering me. One final convenience feature that can be intrusive is the automatic trunk opener. I much prefer to decide when and if I want to open the trunk, instead of it opening for me (whether I want it or not) if I'm near the back of the vehicle. I was recently helping my elderly father walk to the passenger side door, and we crossed behind the G90 in the parking spot, triggering the trunk to open. Normally, if that were to happen when I'm by myself, I would quickly move away from the vicinity and the warning beep would stop. This time, I couldn't move faster, so the trunk opened. I know...first world problems, but annoying nonetheless.

One final comparison comes to mind: the engine and transmission. I opted for the 5 L V8, as I feel the power delivery from a N/A V8 is much smoother than that from a forced-induction V6. When called upon to accelerate, the G90 will no doubt move, but it seems to always be in the wrong gear and have to downshift in order to get moving, especially when merging onto a highway. That's something the BMW did much better. It too needed to downshift at times, but I recall it had more torque to allow it to more effectively speed up and merge, whereas the G90 seems to already be in too high a gear and gets bogged down, triggering the downshift. I tend to drive my cars gently, so I don't go racing around town, but knowing this about the car's behavior, I occasionally use the paddles and shift down to a more appropriate gear while entering the on-ramp so as to be prepared to move if needed, but even in this scenario, if I take a little too long to jump on it, it will upshift and take the wind out of my sails. Again, it is not the way I usually drive so it's not that big of an issue. I anticipate, adjust and continue to enjoy the G90.

*Just remembered and edited the post to include this. The air conditioning. When outside air is allowed into the cabin, the filter does a very poor job of keeping odors (and I'm assuming particulates) from entering the cabin. Outside smells (exhaust fumes from other vehicles, etc.) get in. In the BMW and in my current other vehicle, no odors ever come through. I therefore have to keep the A/C in recirculate mode and remember to occasionally let outside air in to refresh the cabin.

Having had many different luxury cars through the years, including some very high-end vehicles, and being quite picky about fit, finish and performance, I have to say that the G90 was a good purchase. I'm approaching my 1 year anniversary of ownership, so time will tell if this was ultimately a good buy. Now, all I'm worried about is the first service. Without attempting to sound snobbish, with my other car, I'm used to a certain level of attention and quality of work. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will be acceptable.

For those interested, this was the 750 I replaced with the G90. I've yet to take "glamour shots" of the G90.

On the auto-opening trunk. It's annoying like hell, I managed to learn the evasive jump-off maneuver lol. Now, the partial solution, if you have a keyfob in reach - to press the trunk button while the thing is beeping, it'll interrupt the opening routine. I know it kinda defeats the purpose of not having the key handy to start with - it's always in my bag, but still better this than trying to get outta the way quickly.
