G90 steering wheel swap?

Anyone know if this is doable? They appear to be similar enough to with a slightly different design? Will I be the first to try?

Im guessing the G80 sport will def be just a straight swap?

G80 Sport is not from what I heard, clockspring is different, it can be done but you lose a feature. The G90 might be more compatible, but I think you literally might be the first to do it.

Update for everyone. G90 steering wheel does physically fit (spline matches) but the airbag is different (both the size and shape). The connectors on the airbag appear different too so a wire from the column to the airbag will be needed if you plan to swap. I thought the airbag was the same between the Genesis/G80 and the G90 but I was wrong so i never got the swap complete. Good news is the other connectors appear to be the same (i have a tech package Genesis with radar cruise/etc., not sure if it applies for base Genesis')

Some notes on the G90 wheel - its noticeably heavier and thicker (not bigger though) than the Genesis wheel and feels much nicer (leather and size). The switch gear doesnt have the rubberized plastic feel and the rollers/toggle switches are metal. These also feel nicer.

If anyone is looking to do this, you need the following to do a full swap:

• G90 steering wheel
• G90 airbag
• Wire/pigtail from the G90 airbag to the Genesis steering column (no idea if this is a plug and play affair, if this part is available from the dealer or if you have to fabricate)
• 10mm socket for the trunk battery
• 21mm socket + extension for the steering wheel nut
• Screwdrivers (flat and/or phillips, a skinny one and a thicker one)
• Shop manual for how to remove the "DAB" (airbag) and how to remove the steering wheel

If the airbag from the Genesis fit the G90, i would've gone forward with the project but buying a G90 airbag is too cost prohibitive for me. I got a good deal on the steering wheel which is why I even bothered (found it for $75 on ebay). Given that the airbag needs to be swapped out, I'd probably opt for the G80 sport steering wheel since I prefer 3 spokes over 4.

I wonder if you could swap over the G90 control buttons to the G80 wheel, they are nicer looking and have a better feel.

Cannot swap, they are different shapes. Nothing from the G90 wheel can be swapped into the G80/Genesis

the standard G80, the sport wheel is different. including the buttons.

the overall shape of the controls is different between the sport and the g90, but the housing appears to be the same, meaning they might pop into the sport steering wheel housing.

I find it hard to believe that Genesis would not use common parts across the models, but anything is possible I guess.

They don't fit. Trust me, I had both steering wheels (standard Genesis and G90) on my work bench this weekend. They may look similar but nothing can be swapped between them. The metal foundation of the steering wheel, behind the buttons, switches and leather, is even different.

I understand insofar as the G90 and your Steering Wheel,

as I stated the sport wheel is also different from yours, and it is closer in match to the G90, I would be interested if the G90 switches fit into the SPORT steering wheel. They probably don't they look dissimilar in the images, but I would still like confirmation.

Ah. I would strongly guess no fit. I havent shipped the G90 wheel back but the way the button assembly is setup on the G90 the silver surround is integrated with the assembly. Based on this, the G90 buttons would look out of place on the G80 sport wheel and likely not fit. To help visualize - the size of the G90 button assembly are the buttons themselves + the silver/plasti-chrome surround. On the Sport wheel, the buttons assembly either ends at the edge of the buttons or extends much further over the edge to include the silver/plasti-chrome (my guess would be ends with the buttons). I can take some pics tonight.

I get what you're saying, however from what I can tell the buttons actually disconnect from the chrome surround via several clips and pop out, and they are the same part number for the G90 and G80 sport steering wheels, where in the base/ultimate Genesis/G80 has a different part number:

Your parts diagrams supports your idea, on paper this looks like a fit...I'll take more pics this evening and then someone with a G80 sport can see if it works but I think hyundai is recycling part numbers because the sport buttons are black vs silver in the G90...not sure how they can be the same part number, regardless of fitment.

Also, I went googling to see if i could find the part and its also the same part number for an Elantra steering wheel button assembly which does not resemble anything in the Genesis: ELANTRA 11 (AL PLANT). For Hyundai | HyundaiOnlineParts.net

yeah I've seen that before, Hyundai uses the same base part number and then a different sub part number base on the VIN.

I have a sport, so you can send me the images and I can compare if you like.

As Mr. Incredible said, the 5 digit numbers in the catalog are just the callout numbers, not part #'s. Hyundai's part #'s are always at least 10 digits long. First 5 indicating what kind of part, the 2nd 5 indicates what model they fit.

what you might be able to do is take the scroll wheel and thumb clicker thingy out of the G90 button pod and put it in the G80 pod. I disassembled mine because the track +/- toggle was making noise. the pod comes out easy enough, there's a screw behind the paddle shifter and then it snaps out.

I hadn't posted any, but here's a dissected Genny/G80 button pod. the scroll wheel has to be removed GENTLY to the left, as to not mess up the encoder wheel (white assembly on the right), the toggle looks like it snaps off towards you.

So what happens if ya pop the silver g90 ones in? Do they function or no fit? Can't justify replacing the entire steering wheel for some nice silver scroll wheels as much as I'd wish lol
