Gas mileage/ new car break in period?

Here is my experience... I have a 3.8 AWD ultimate and have put 3023 miles on it since I picked up the car in early December. I do a mix of city and highway driving - maybe slightly more city, use regular gas, standard mode, recommended tire pressure, and broke-in the engine as specified by Hyundai. According to the trip meter that I have not reset since I picked up the car, I have averaged 34 MPG over the past 3023 miles. Also the oil level is a s full as the day I bought it and very clean.

So the trip meter is of questionable accuracy since it says I getting mileage way beyond what Hyundai claims. Another measure is I usually get about 400 miles to a tank of gas in mostly city driving. I will get 500 plus on the highway using cruise control and keeping it about 75 MPH. So it seems that I am getting about low 20's in the city and high 20's on the highway.

15,000 miles on mine and fuel economy is 19-26 (22-23 avg) for my wife who does a lot of highway but sees Atlanta traffic. When I have the car (backroads) I'm seeing 18-22 (20 average) which is an improvement from the 18 I was seeing before. When we drive up to see my parents in SC, we usually see 28-30 depending on how much passing I engage in.

Gas just doesn't seem to be my friend. I can't get anything beside low teens to maybe like 19 -20 MAX. I'm going to safely say that most are not receiver standard mileage hyundai says either they are getting a whopping 30 something miles OR below estimates mileage.

I also want to note I'm on my 5the tank of gas and every single one has given me ALMOST 300 miles. I think I might as well drive a Hondato cruise around in or buy a gas card lol .

13 miles to work one way at 30-70Mph, a few traffic lights on the route.
Regular gas
ECO mode 95% of the time.
The MPG meter resets every time you fill the gas.
Never seen anything higher than 19MPG when the tank is close to empty.
Depressing...

Same car, only 400 miles so far but also very similar daily commute. Using mostly normal driving mode, 25 mpg so far...

Do you overtake other vehicles a lot or just follow the one in front? I don't sprint, but tend to be in the front of the flow. Passing with 3000-4000RPM tops.

I am still in the break-in period so trying to not go over 4000 rpm but I also tend to be in the front of the flow cruising at 65+ mph and overtaking people most of the time. The engine is spinning barely over 2000 rpm even at those speeds...

Hmmm. Regular gas, right? Did I get a lemon? MPG was my biggest disappointment with Genny so far.

Still using the same tank of gas provided by the dealer on delivery but I am guessing they wouldn't spend extra on premium gas...

I would like to escalate this. There must be something that differs drivers with 25MPG and those with 17MPG. It's just too much of a difference.

Does Hyundai have only one factory manufacturing 3.8 engines?
Could it be software update?
Anything that will come to mind of honorable All would be highly appreciated!

I've been thinking the same. I usually commute in town and take longer trips on occasion. My usual drive range from 0-10 miles . My longer distance trips can range from 20+ miles and I have not seen and significant changes. Like used premium chevron fuel. 38 psi cold tires 40-42 hot . Driving on the highway I sometimes overtake other cars but mostly top out at 3k rpm . I Just think I got the bad luck of this car draw .

I keep mine at 33 cold, 35 hot as recommended in manual.

im also on like my fifth tank of gas and still disappointedly i checked my reader and of course under 300 miles per tank. Disappointed ;(

I use Chevron Premium fuel. I also have 20inch rims with tires so i added a little more air. I don't believe the tires are the issue.

Tire pressure can considerably affect MPG. Not that I'm saying it's your case...

That is true, but even straight from the Inland Empire dealership stock tires, and manufacturer recommend tire pressure my mpg have been considerably lower than the standard 18/29. In my picture it shows an estimated 16 for my total mileage of 1159.9. Thats disappointing! Also if it means anything the car was driven from Pasadena to me and had a total of 84 miles when i took it off the lot.

Yeah there's a difference...the weight of their right feet.
