  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

  1. On a level road without traffic, what is your MPG at highway speeds of about 65 MPH?
  2. Does your car already have some after-market stuff installed?

You do understand that you purchased a big V8 sedan with 375hp. MPG is not a strong suite for V8 engines. MY E500 maybe gets 16 -17 mpg but I don't care because that's the car I wanted. My 4.6 Genesis gets about 25 to 26 combined on a long trip. 14-17 mpg around town. I would not recommend any modifications to the car. Driving habits can make a bigger difference.

Ill trade you for my v6 it gets great gas mileage.

efillmore go bye bye?

You should have purchased a Prius if you want good gas mileage..
Biguns eat fuel...........

I bought a 2010 v8 and had test driven a v6. The published mpg difference is only 2 as I recall. On a v6 weekend test, I averaged 25 mpg so I thought, great, I'm willing to live with 23. Welllll, I've never averaged more than 20 mpg for a tank and often under 19. Of course I drive 70-75 on the freeways around Dallas and use regular gas.
Recently decided to see what would happen if I set the cruise to 65 for a while. Wow, I got 25 mpg and after a tank and some city driving it came out to 23.5. I'm very surprised at the big difference and I'll test some more but I thought I'd pass it on.

Has anyone tested their mpg using different grades of gas? I'm guessing that higher octane will result in better mpg but not enough to justify the cost. BTW, not fair using non-ethanol gas, I know that will boost MPG.

Using premium instead of regular will boost MPG, but as you say may not be worth the price difference. You can try it and do the math. I would also try synthetic motor oil, which although more expensive, should have dual effect of a slight increase in MPG and improve engine longevity.

I though everyone with a Genny used synthetic. :D Yes it does boost mileage.

Re: gas milege ethanol vs. no alcohol

I've seen alot of the damage that ethanol does to lawn equipment etc. so I started using non alcohol gas in my V6. I figured 20 cents more a gallon would mean much but I've been surprised at my mpg.

Before, when I used the 10% ethanol that 90% of the gas stations have, I usually found my highway mileage @70-75 mph to be in the 26-27 range. Now I'm seeing 31-32 mpg at the same speed.

At some stations, the only non alcohol alternative is Premium and I see markups of 40+ cents over Regular w/ethanol. I purchase at Casey's that typically does carry non alcohol Regular and they mark up 20-25 cents over ethanol fuel. Seems like money well spent to me.
