  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello! I LOVE my 2023 Genesis GV80 3.5T Prestige. I just bought her on Saturday. I am absolutely floored that I’ve driven only 200 miles and my gas tank is almost empty. What is happening here?!!!!!! I am coming from a 2020 highlander-15 gallon tank and I got almost 9 days out of the tank or about 350miles. My genesis has a 21 gallon tank. I understand this is a twin turbo v6 but this can’t be real! I have read I should get average 20mpg but I’m getting closer to 12-14mpg. I drive in eco and I’m not driving like I stole it! HELP!

Until brea-in is done, your milage will be lower than expected. Also, any hard acceleration will kick those turbos in and reduce mileage. Give the vevicle time to settle in. It is a heavy vehicle and quick throttle response.

Don't panic. Yet. Was the tank full when you bought it? How many gallons did it take when you filled it up? That will give you a true picture of use, assuming it was full but it my not have been.

Too many variables to draw a conclusion. When new the mpg is not as good as it will be after a thousand miles too. We also don't know the driving conditions. City traffic? Cold temperatures and short trips? Fill up and fill up again in a couple hundred miles for some realistic numbers. Could be the gauge off too.

Thank you for the quick reply. When I test drove the car, it had 37 miles on it. The fuel gauge wasn’t “full” but it was probably between full and 3/4. It’s been hot here in Orlando, FL. I drive the car to work, my commute is 18 miles each way with stop and go traffic. I guess once I’m ready to fill the tank up, I’ll re assess the situation. I hope it gets better. Especially considering it’s premium gas 😂.

I appreciate it! I just bought the car for the looks and all the features on the inside hahahaha. I probably had no business buying a car with this much power 😂 I’m hoping it gets better. This is literally the ONLY downfall!

Well, I would not fret. It is not a downfall. You have a really sweet ride. Also, you can run regular in in it without hurting the engine. The manual recommends premium, but it is not required. You will really see no appreciable difference in how it runs. Some people run regular on most tanks and periodically fill it with premium.

I will probably be flamed for telling you that it won't make a difference, but you can try it out yourself and see if there is any difference.

I live in Mt. Dora and I cringe whenever I must drive into Orlando. My fingers and toes curl. Traffic heavy. I-4 most dangerous road in country. When I “must” drive in Orlando, my gas Milage also goes way down. I’d rather go to Ocala, vice Orlando.

Where did you buy your car?
Where do you intend getting it serviced?

I bought my G80 3.5 Prestige in Melbourne and get it serviced in Orlando. Someday I may try service in Clermont or Leesburg, but not yet.

With 44551 on the odometer I've put in 2055.57 gallons of gas. 21.67 MPG.

Hahaha I avoid i4 at all costs!!!!! I bought it at Universal Hyundai and will get it serviced there. I typically drive on the local roads but also on 417 and 408.

In stop and go traffic, your mileage may not improve much. I love the car and it gets reasonable highway mileage; in city stop and go, it's a pig.

See my signature banner below. I'm no pooch, but also don't drive like I stole it either.
And, Like Dale above, I only use regular!

I actually feel that every time you press the accelerator petal down at a stop sign/light to get going the turbo's kick in . . . seems like it's almost impossible to get going without the car wanting to beat every other car off the line. (Or maybe that's just mine!)
:outtahere:

The 3.5 is not known for good gas mileage.

You'd get better gas mileage with higher octane fuel. Premium from a good station like Shell also has cleaners that'll keep carbon from building up on your injectors and intake valves.

Regular grade from a Top Tier station has those additives too.

Premium is about 40 cents a gallon more. At $3.50 a gallon. 15 mpg is .233 cents per miles. To keep cost per miles the same you'd have to increase to 16.84 mpg. Do you have any figures on that?

I drive a 2.5T GV80 but I just went to Burger King for a double cheeseburger and reset my built-in mileage calculator. Drove 9.1 miles, most at 55 MPH, hit a traffic light getting onto interstate and one getting off, stayed in a short line to order, ate the burger in parking lot with engine running, then drove back where I hit another traffic light, and I still got 30 MPG using Shell Supremium V-rocket-power with nitro-glycerin (or whatever the marketing guys call it, lol). I can actually get 40 MPG out of my 2.5T on a flat interstate doing 50. Of course, since it has the aerodynamics of a brick wall that quickly drops at higher speeds. Using the turbos to pass morons also decreases MPG considerably.

"I can actually get 40 MPG out of my 2.5T on a flat interstate doing 50"

Just who, in their right mind, goes that slow! You'll get blown off the interstate and just might even get a ticket for going too slow! Even going the speed limit is usually way too slow for traffic.

Well, I just went out again for a little drive, this time doing 60ish and still got 36 MPG. Feel free to use the cheapest gas you can buy in your $70K vehicle though. I'm going to keep using Shell Premium.

I made a whole video of the drive actually but I guess this pic as I pulled back into my garage will do:

No one recommended "cheapest" gas. use the best gas at a good price. as stated by the manufacturer.

The manufacturer says 91 octane is recommended. The manufacturer doesn't recommend the lowest octane fuel you can buy. That recomendation is usually based on compression ratio and the likelihood of detonation (knocking). Granted modern engines will compensate for cheap owners but on an older car not following the recommendation can actually damage the engine. And even in a new vehicle you'll likely get carbon build up for being a cheap skate.

In any case, I got my 20 minute, 20 mile drive (60 MPH average) down to a 3 minute video:
