  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm the kind of guy who likes to keep the original floor mats clean (for the second owner :D) so I placed an additional floor matt on top of the stock floor mat. Well, my foot just did not feel comfortable, so I got down on my hands and knees to look at what the problem was. The matt I placed there did not go under the gas pedal. Reason? The Gas pedal is not the type that hangs down from above. It is the type that is hinged from the floor. I have not seen this type of gas pedal in years. I had to cut my additional matt so it would go around the gas pedal.

I don't see problems yet, however in the future, I can see where dirt will form behind the pedel, at the hinge and it could cause problems, just like the cars of yesteryear.

I guess I can live with it, making sure I vacuum under and behind the hinge every time I clean the car.

A lot of the modern "drive by wire" pedals are like this. Instead of using hydraulics to lift the throttle body, there is a sensor right below the pedal that senses how much pressure you put on it. The advantage of this type of system? Because there are very few moving parts, less likely to break. Also, the chances of having a "stuck accelerator pedal" is almost nill. So think of it as a potential life and limb saver rather than a hassle to clean.

Oh BTW, they call this type of pedal the "accordion pedal".

I don't have a Genesis (yet!) -- waiting to buy just before retirement so I don't put 150+ miles/day commuting. Anyway, I had a '74 Porsche 914 Limited Edition with that type of pedal. In snow/cold climates, your shoes/boots bring in snow which can melt and freeze on the bottom pedal hinge. This happened to me once. When I released the gas to control a spin, the pedal stuck. Only a minor accident into a snow bank but something to watch for.

GCyr,

Funny you should mention the 74 Porsche 914. I also had a 74, 914 2.0 liter. (To those who never had one, it was really a VW with a fancy body).

OK, to make this post legal in this section, although it did have this type of gas pedal.
I would always make sure I kept the "hinge" area clean.

I never would drive it (or seldom drove it) in the snow, because those thing would rust just looking at them, plus I could never get much heat out of the thing. Great traction though. Took it on a long trip once and got 36mpg on that 16 gallon tank. Leaving Western NY, with a full tank, I only got gas twice before I got to Key West.

I was much younger then.

You and I think alike. I have clear plastics mats OVER my nice cloth mats.. I don't want them getting dirty. And, yes - the mat gets in the way of the gas pedal.
