  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I just got my '11 Genesis V6 back from the body shop after getting a new rear bumper cover installed from a minor rear ender. While driving the car the gas pedal suddenly stopped responding and the car lost speed. Everything else in the car kept working...steering, brakes, electronics, but the tach went down to 1000RPM. After pulling over for a few seconds the gas pedal came back and I drove off. This happened 5 or 6 times in the 20 minute drive home. When I got home I opened the trunk to inspect body work and it was soaked from what must have been the rainstorm the night before.Either the trunk was not shut properly or the taillight assemblies were not sealed as the car was outside. Could water in the battery compartment cause this? Is it coincidental that it is the drive by wire sensor? Never had a problem for 52K until this repair! Is there a known issue here and should I go to the dealer?

I don't think it is a coincidence. Do you have a lawyer?

I think a lawyer is a bit quick on the trigger. I would notify whoever did the vehicle repair and see if they, or perhaps a dealer with regional help, could figure out what caused the problem. The most important thing is to identify the cause so it won't happen again. If you don't get satisfaction from the repair shop then call the lawyer.

You guys were so right! Turns out the battery died when it got wet!(The shop forgot to cover the area where the taillight assemblies go and it rained HARD that night. Therefore the ground cable had to be disconnected to "reset" the drive-by-wire throttle. All is now well in the Land of Goshen and I truly do like this car more than my Mercedes!

What a grossly incompetent body shop. Hopefully they are fully addressing? It needs to be completely dried out so you don't end up with sitting water and corrosion.

Check that trunk constantly over the next couple months. Make sure it doesn't start to smell musty and that exposed metal doesn't start to corrode.

Just a follow up on this subject to all of you in this forum and thank you all for your invaluable input and prompt responses. Yes, the body shop was very reticent in what had occurred and consequently did a very thorough job of drying the trunk and battery well area. The car is driving fine but the newly acquired Mercedes E-350 4-matic wagon is back at the dealership for a list of things that should have been addressed prior to delivery. However, I am going to log at least 1500 miles on their '14 E-350 loaner before mine gets returned! Thanks for everything.
