  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I wish there was a survey done after 6 years and 10 years.

The problem is there are so many variables. Much longer power train warranty for Genesis vs "peers" and even some peers have longer or shorter warranties than each other. In general, I would expect luxury vehicles to be more problematic on lists like this because there are more parts and more complex parts (I use Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, Cadillac, and Land Rover; I exclude Infinity, Acura, and Lincoln as currently irrelevant). Add in different feature sets on each car. And multiple years. Etc.

While I don't know of where one can get a list that you seek, there is a good alternative. Join Consumer Reports and you can see its reliability column ranked for make, year, feature and some feature sets. These charts are produced by the consumer reports members. But even that will have some contributor bias. For example, are CR members more safety focused than performance focused? But it is very useful chart to use before making a purchase.

Again, have to keep in mind that JDP is accounting for 3 year old vehicles and that's around when Genesis launched a slew of new models and powertrains.

Acura, for instance, is still down towards the dumps for JDP, but has largely recovered in CR's reliability survey as CR takes into account much more recent data.

Will be interesting to see how Mazda fares in 2-3 years when their new models hit the 3 year stage; Mazda has been able to rise since they've been using the same old powertrains that have had the kinks worked out.

So in reality, these reports are pretty meaningless unless you are purchasing a vehicle with the same powertrain (and even then, a powertrain in year 6 or 7 is a very different proposition from year 1) or buying used.

JD power is a scam and rigged. All the numbers are going to be different to.

The truth is I don’t listen to JD power anymore. It’s the same for consumer reports as well.

It puts Genesis in the middle of the pack which seem about right to me.

Is there a source that covers the industry you would recommend? I'm only familiar with JDP and CR.

Not really tbh. You really just gotta research online the general consensus from forums and auto websites. CR and JD can have some good info sometimes, but I believe companies have to pay JD to rate them from the first place.

Also, the other scam was when CR rated the Genesis HdA worse than Toyota. Read any other outlet and you’ll know that’s not true! I also will never understand why CR loves ford blue cruise so much. All this just convinces me that all this is rigged and their all paid off.

Anyways sorry for my rant.

CR reliability ratings are based on customer surveys. What I find useful are the detailed reviews. There I can identify which issues are a potential concern to me and how that particular model and year has done in the surveys for those issues. I find that very useful. A Genesis problem is that as a fairly new marque, there often are not enough reviews to be helpful.

Yeah. The problem is exactly what you said if a car is much less popular like Genesis it will affect their numbers and ratios.

I still don’t trust CR though. Let me tell you every single other outlet says HKG has some of the best ADAs outside of luxury like Mercedes, but CR claims its worst than the terrible Toyota system.
