  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
1G Genesis Sedan (2009-2014)
I recently got a 2012 genesis 4.6 sedan and 4 days ago I started noticing my transmission was engaging realy hard in every gear is this a sign for a new transmission or ????

Has the transmission been drain/filled or flushed with new ATF?

Probably would be a good place to start. Does it happen worse when the car had been running a bit and is heated up?

Yes it does from a take off and happens thru out all shift changes ..

If its worse when the engine/transmission are hot then a good place to start would be to at least drain the old fluid and add new fluid. This will drain about half the old stuff out and replace it with new. You could do that and see if it helps. If it does, then drive it a while and maybe do another drain and fill down the road so you have 75% new fluid. Or you could go in for a full flush, although some people say to avoid that. Either way, the 2012 Genesis 4.6 was notorious for transmission issues (my 2012 has 100,087 on it and is starting to have rough shifts from 3-4 and 4-5 when the fluid is hot). Hyundai updated it in 2013 which fixed a lot of the shifting issues the 2012 model had. From what I understand, dealers would just put in new 2013+ transmissions into the 2012 models when people would come in complaining of shifting issues, I guess it was that bad.
