  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am looking at buying a Genesis 5.0 R-Spec and have read that some 2012 cars had problems with oil consumption. Was this problem resolved for the 2013 car for example? Thanks in advance

Yes 2013 is OK.

The 5.0 cars made after ~March/April 2012 (i.e. late 2012 builds and all of 2013+) did not have the oil consumption issues that were common in the early 2012 5.0 engines.

I haven't actually looked at the month of manufacture of my '12 R-spec, but can say after 2 months of driving it hasn't an abnormal amount of oil. I added 1/4 quart last weekend to get it back to the original level. My STS-V used to consume 1 quart a month (and that was considered normal).

easy - get a 2013 or 2014 period
not to mention the navigation/electronics are improved in the 2013 model. the 2012 does not have bluetooth for audio for example....
again
get a 2013 or 2014

After having my 2012 grenade the engine, I also would recommend buying a 2013 or 2014.

33k miles 2012 5.0 here. January build. so far so good on oil. Might help to use a high quality oil like AMSoil. Personally I like to use Mobil 1 or Castrol Edge. Just dont overheat you engine and your seals and rings should be fine

good luck!
I would bail on that car and get a 2013 or 2014 ASAP
you should get a good trade or private sale value with that low of miles. Still I would rather have a motor that was more proven than such an early run of the GREAT 5.0
