  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

When I try to use the genesis app it takes 30 to 40 seconds to either work, or give a "server busy Try again later" , message. Is this
how it works for others? Before I turn in for the night, I like to check to make sure the doors are locked, trunk closed, etc. I can see the lights flash when I lock the doors but can't see the trunk to make sure it is closed. In this day and time, it should not take that long to check the status of the car.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

I agree with those times and that they are way too slow. The app needs to talk to the cloud, the cloud talks to the Genesis servers, the Genesis then sends a signal probably by digital radio to the car, the car then responds back to the Genesis servers and the Genesis servers talk to the cloud and finally the cloud talks to the app. I doubt that the car is listening all the time but probably polls every once in a while to see if there some signal for it and I suspect the car is the bottleneck.

The app should be rewritten and optimized The timeouts of frustrating enough, maybe they don't have enough servers.

Mcc,
I think you hit the nail on the head when you said "maybe they don't have enough servers."
My understanding is that the car has 3G phone service. It is not fast, but more than fast enough for what it needs.
I am sure that most people have lost the password or user name to some site. You click on the button to get a new password.
The server will ask some questions to make sure you are who you say you are. You will be told you will get an e-mail with instructions
of how to reset your password. You go at once to your e-mail prog or app and there it is.
So to me, the cloud is not the problem, your smart phone (if that is what you used) is not the problem.
Then the problem is either the servers are overloaded or the car just doesn't want to answer the phone.

I think that taking about 45 seconds for this type of service is not that long. Since this operates via internet/cell phone service, it's a bit like sending an SMS text message. Sometimes those can take 30-45 seconds to go through. (iMessages are usually almost instant)

It would be nice if they could add a local start option via the Key fob. Those generally start the car withing 10 seconds or so depending on brand.

It would be also interesting to know if other brands like GM/OnStar have similar start times using the smart phone app. Does a Buick start instantly via the Phone app, or... do they have the same lag?

Finally, this is not intended to excuse the Genesis APP for not working when it's -15F and the app responds to try again later. That is clearly a capacity issue. I've run into that a handfull of times on my 2013 Azera, and my '15 Genesis.

Now how do you account for the fact that an address entered into the app take about 2 seconds to show up in the car's Bluelink for navigation? Wouldn't it use the same servers?

It may or may not use the same servers. IDK. It may just use different priorities for different request and remote request are at the bottom of the list.

ive never gotten the error message, but i agree, it takes a while, maybe it is physically phone related, though unless you had something ancient I don't see how, I have an s7, still pretty slow on virtually anything and doing a location check can take foreeeeeeeeever, but still, no error, just waiting

I use the app on my Apple Watch also. Most functions work ok (not fast) but the location check absolutely does not work. Fails every time with a server timeout. I have opened a case with Genesis.
