  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Brand Vision Announcement!

Well, I like the move to electric. When ICE vehicle were first being produced they were terrible and unreliable. With so many OEMs jumping on the bandwagon, the charging infrastructure will pop up fast.

Like any big change, many won't like it at first and then love it later. Do you want to go back to film cameras or VCR tapes?
My early VHS tapes? YES, I’d love to have them back with the same content. 😵‍💫

Actually, I still have a bunch in a locked suitcase under the bed.

Yup. Florida did this after Hurricane Wilma - I was there. And in subsequent Florida storms, the same huge gas lines appeared anyway -- along with price gouging and people selling bottles of water to those in line for $5 a pop.
Perhaps you gentlemen are not aware that gasoline pumps are electrically powered?
With the proper supply lines, liquid fuel can be hauled anywhere in tankers and easily dispensed in an emergency. I’m having trouble visualizing something like the D-Day invasion being performed with electric vehicles.

Maybe that's because D-Day was 77 years ago, haha. A lot has changed, and change is accelerating. Just five years ago, it would have been unthinkable for major auto manufacturers to declare that they would be going all-electric in 5-10 years. And who would have predicted headlines/reviews like this:

Does electric mean pure electric? One could argue that the Acura NSX is "electric"
Electric means no ICE. You also have hybrid, and plug in hybrid which also have an ICE. Acura NSX is considered a hybrid. It does not have plug in capability.

Any invasion is soon to be without people, let alone ICE powered military equipment. Drones, drones and more drones. Look at the Boston Dynamics and Tesla robots!

The glory days are coming to an end... as much I love them myself. The future is here

Electric won't catch on in bigger cities. There are over 800 people in my apartment and 4 chargers.

Apartments will prevent the wide spread adoption.

Society has to change before all these big things can catch on.

Plus, we have to solve the road tax paid for via gasoline and electric car's share of road costs. California was considering a 1000 dollar registration fee a few years ago . We have a long way....

I read, or saw something on TV recently. A Stone Age “army” gave a huge superpower, equipped with drones and much more modern technology, a very bad time. When the war ended the Stone Age army ended up with much of the weaponry of the superior force. They played with it for a time and then crawled back into their tents to contemplate their perceived accomplishments.

I thought Electric means electrified? Can be broken down as such..

BEV = Battery Electric Vehicle
HEV = Hybrid Electric Vehicle
PHEV = Plug in Hybrid Electric Vehicle

My issue is the charging infrastructure. It's fine if I stay in the city, I can charge at home. It's when I leave the city that's the issue.

California, the holy land of electric vehicles... 1 in 5 BEV owners switch back to gas because of charging infrastructure in the state with arguably the best charging infrastructure in North America. It needs to be much much better before most people will make the switch.

Louisiana, after the hurricane. California, after the decimating fires. Would you prefer to own an electric vehicle, or an ICE (gasoline) vehicle?
Depends. If it were a Ford F-150 Lightning, it can be configured to power your house for 2-3 days during a power outage.

little disappointed but its just a matter of time before all brands go full EV.
I'm opening up a gas station and convenience store. It will make a fortune. Want to invest?

Car makers will do the change overs but the grid will be far behind.

Some communities have passed laws preventing the opening of any new gas stations. They claim that this is for green/environmental reasons. What it really is, is protection against competition for the existing gas stations.

Gas stations arent going to magically go away overnight.

With Biden's EO for 50% of new vehicles to be EV by 2030, that means its going to be 2040 or later before all new cars are EV. Gas stations are going to be around well past that as not everyone will buy a new EV.

Yes the grid needs to catch up. Yes we need to make green energy significantly more efficient. Yes we need to start expanding nuclear power since it is one of the most efficient.

I've read recent articles that say Nuclear Fusion is getting close... unlimited and safe power if it comes to be!

Yep. Just ten years away, just like it was ten years away thirty years ago. Don't hold your breath.
They still haven't been able to produce more energy than is consumed in a laboratory, let alone any practical setup.

Also need to think what will happen to all the dangerous waste created by dead or defective batteries in these vehicles? Also, will there be enough resources be available to make the batteries and will the quality of these batteries be top notch or will some manufacturers rush to make them (lower standards) and create a more dangerous situations down the road?

I like the optimist view of things. If we don't try, we will never succeed. So many advancements have been achieved when others (even in the same field) said they wouldn't happen.

Bloomberg - Are you a robot?

Sure it would be great in a perfect world where every house has a charging station, everyones office buildings had charging stations, every store had stations, we had ample power being created to run all these new stations and perfect way to dispose of these hazmat materials we strap under our car seats, but we all know we will never see any of this in our lifetimes or our kids lifetimes.

I don't know that at all and I see the opposite. As @Husky said, the rate of change is accelerating. We may see the technological singularity in our life.

Right! Who would have thought we would all have super powerful tiny computers in our pocket capable of connecting to anyone anywhere. In car related things, just look at how much power is squeezed out of small displacement engines compared to what it used to take to make decent power with giant displacement V8s of the old days. Tech is exponentially accelerating for sure
