  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Brand Vision Announcement!

  • All new vehicle launches from 2025 will be electric only
  • All Genesis vehicles will be electric from 2030 onward
  • Carbon neutral by 2035

Sounds like pandering to the naive and clueless in an attempt to sell cars. The term "carbon neutral" is meaningless and charging your EV with coal-fired power is like having a diet coke with your cheeseburger.

So that's why the entire industry is moving away from ICE? The fact that coal is being used to generate electricity is a completely different topic and ridiculous in this day and age.

What blaze? It was excess speed and a crash. No fire.
What is sad, you think you are safe inside your home. What could happen?
The speeding driver should be charged with murder.

Yeah, it's terrible. Murder though needs intent.

I do wonder though if power limits will be coming for electric cars. The Plaid does 0-60 in 1.9 seconds and a low 9 1/4 mile. Even on a sanctioned race track they technically need helmet, roll cage and parachute!

Corporations, like governments, will say anything to appeal to and appease the masses, Slip. Seems to me that power supply and electricity generation methods are key components in the overall EV equation. How will you power yours my friend, wind and solar? The topic is germane and far from ridiculous for thinking people.

Hydro electricity. It supplies 96% of my province.

Difficult? Capping an oil well that's spewing millions of gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico, that's difficult. It took 87 days.

Agreed. Even as an old "you can never have too much horsepower" kind of guy, the power of some of the EVs, Tesla in particular, seem insane and just asking for trouble. Why? It just increases cost and decreases range.

Speed sells. The marketing people love it. As for cost, look at the difference in price on a G80 3.8 vs 5.0 or now the 2.5 vs 3.5. Hefty but people are paying. Less
costly is the modifications and tunes guys are making for a half second gain. . As pointed out, not everyone can handle that speed

Yeah, let's not forget the Ford Pinto, a k.a. the rolling hand grenade. It became famous for bursting into flames and killing it's unfortunate occupants if it got rear-ended.

“In 2018, 61 per cent of Canada’s electricity generation was from hydroelectric sources, while the remainder was generated from nuclear, natural gas, coal, wind, petroleum, and renewable sources other than hydro.”

If I hear the word "audacious" one more time I swear 😒

They've been vocal about this move for years. Shortly after launch they said there would be full electric variants of every Genesis vehicle. They've been pushing hydrogen fuel cell and electric with Hyundai for years. The Ionic is now going to be it's own brand/sub-brand.

The only thing I would like to see is a focus on performance EVs. Would be cool to see Genesis lead the field or get "audacious" there.
A lot of the negative comments sound similar to when companies suggested that landline phones were going to be a thing of the past and that cellphones were the future.

A "Province" in Canada is like a "State" in the USA - hoping you know that but who knows. As I said, in the Province I live, which is Manitoba, 96% of electricity is generated by Hydro. More than 98% of electricity generated in Manitoba comes from clean and renewable sources such as hydroelectricity and wind.

Furthermore, our electricity rates are 9.9 cents per kWh and the 2nd lowest in Canada. Charging an EV here is about $6.

No kiddin’.

Your entire province has less population than the metro area of my city (1.3 million). In other words, it’s not a huge electric power generation challenge.

By the way, I forgive Manitoba for Neil Young.

Was listening to my weekly science podcast on the way home from work and heard this tidbit that's relevant.... Even if your electricity was from dirty sources, electric cars still pollute less over the lifetime of the car. Worst case scenario if your electricity was 100% coal it pollutes less than ICE after 80,000 miles. About half the life of the average car.

The typical mix of 23% coal, 20% nuclear, 40% natural gas and other... takes just 13,000 miles before it pollutes less than ICE. If the electricity is 100% renewable source, that number drops to 8000 miles. What it comes down to is electric motors are more efficient, more of the energy goes towards propelling the car and not lost as heat, sound, light, etc...

Diet Coke with a burger? That's still 140 calories less than if you had a regular coke... every little bit helps.
