  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Several times now after shutting off my '09 V6 Tech Pkg Genesis it goes completely dead -- no power at all. Can't lock/unlock doors, no lights come on... it's as if the battery was disconnected. Usually corrects itself after an hour. When it comes back to life the car clock is wrong and other settings (avg mpg, etc) are lost. This morning I sat outside the grocery store for 40 minutes until it revived.

I looked at the battery in the trunk and I don't see any acid build up or anything that would cause this. Has this happened to anyone? Any thoughts as to why?

Start by removing the battery cables and cleaning the terminals on both the battery and the cables. On my 5.0, the cables go to a terminal on the right front fender. Those connections should be cleaned also.

Also check the negative ground wire in trunk where it attaches to the floor of tire well in trunk. Make sure it is clean and tight.

Thanks guys. The situation repeated several times and I found I could resolve it by removing the physical key from the fob, opening the trunk, and jiggling the battery wires. I took it to Hyundai yesterday and it happened again when I dropped it off, but the mechanic wasn't able to reproduce it during his investigation. He resecured all the wires and replaced the battery in the remote (useless) so hopefully it goes away. Glad nobody else seems to have encountered this!

Given the age of the car I am going to guess it is a connection problem as someone said earlier. Either a battery/cable or a intermittent ground. A good cleaning and tightening of all connections will likely correct the problem. Make sure you remember the connections under the hood in addition to the battery itself.

I have the same problem. its a bad connection between the battery and the + cable in the truck. I tightened the stupid bolt real tight and the problem went away for a good 5 months. However, it just happened again the other day. I was able to get maybe a 1/2 turn of the bolt again and we are back in business...until it happens again.

Pretty ridiculous if u ask me
