In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I've been following this board for a while now and the the wealth of information is invaluable. I appreciate those of you who have purchased the Genesis sharing your experiences.

I test drove the Genesis and was very impressed with the vehicle. I've been waiting for the right deal to come along. However, I've becoming more concerned with some of the issues some folks have been reporting with the car; such as suspension, audio, bluetooth, and navigation.

I'm wondering if these issues are rare occurrences or are they more common?

I know no one wants to have buyer remorse after spending their hard-earned cash. If you could have, knowing what you know now, would you have waited for a later release of the Genesis?

May be this could be a topic for a new poll?

Thanks

Not Me! I waiting long enough to get my ordered Genesis 4.6. I have had no issues thus far and frankly don't expect to see any. As with any totally new vehicle there're bond to be a few glitches. With a 27 month lease, assuming everything is still okay, I'll plan to order the updated Gen at that time.

Enough said!:)

Absolutely not! My Genesis is a wonderful car in all respects. It is the best sedan I have ever owned.

almost 3000 miles so far and I have had no problems at all with the car.
I love the ride/handling.
If anything, it seems even quicker now than when new.

CVIZ-
I now have 3700 miles logged on my Genesis. It's EXACTLY like anything else of major cost that you buy. Even like your house. After you have lived in it for several months, you begin to see, hear and feel things that you didn't observe up to that point. There's something psychological about it.

To prove my point- I've been reading about the rough ride. So I began to pay a lot of attention to my ride and sure enough, it has its rough characteristics. 100% true. Last week, I drove a borrowed car for 2 days while a couple of small things along with my 3000 mile checkup were handled on my Genny. When I got back in my Genesis 2 days later I almost audibly exclaimed at the smooth ride! Perspective. I'm still in the camp of others on the forum in that I would like there to be a selectible ride. BUT... in the scheme of things... I've also had a fuel door switch go bad (fixed immediately under warranty), but that's it.

Out of the 1000-ish members here, you may find 5 that are actually unhappy owners. The rest of us are pointing out very small things that are improvements that we would like Hyundai to make as they go along. And they will. But think of the story of my friend Bill that never bought a VHS or DVD player, because he knew the next model would be an improvement over the ones currently out. He was right, but he never enjoyed watching It's A Wonderful Life over and over (until TNT or USA started running it that way). Get the point?

So... some of it is real and you may not get a 100% perfect car. Remember that even if it is a huge investment, it is not a $100k Mercedes. VERY few things are systemic problems. Some things you read are happen-once things. Some are lack of understanding things. BOTTOM LINE- you'll not find a better group of people off which to bounce your questions, problems, ideas, and excitement!

I think a lot of these issues are nit picky as well... It is an amazingly solid car... These are little things that, when updated, could make a PERFECT car even MORE PERFECT! 27 month lease and you can be in the 2011 Genesis... Could you imagine what that one will be like?!

I have had my Titanium Metallic PP model since end of September and have put about 7500 miles on the car so far. I was coming out of an 03 BMW 745 owned since new, talk about problems in a new car, I will not buy another BMW for quite a long time, and I was a big fan having 5 to date. I consider myself a "car" guy having had 62 cars to date of various makes and model.

My Genesis is getting about 22 mpg around town and 27 highway, driving about 75mph. This car is rock solid and a great performer to date. I do have minor issues with this car but really nit picky, such as
1. No delayed headlights
2. No smart key fob( remembers his and her setting per key)
3. Trunk finishing is not complete
As far as the ride is concerned, it is very nice, that said it does tend to "bounce" over a wash board surface, no more than any other car I have driven.

The only way you would not be satisfied with this car is if you are hung up on a label /emblem. If the current emblem "H" is not to your liking, the Genesis emblem is as nice as any upscale emblem.

Good luck

However, I've becoming more concerned with some of the issues some folks have been reporting with the car; such as suspension, audio, bluetooth, and navigation.

I purchased a base model so I don't have the Nav system so I can't comment on that.

I've had zero problems with the Bluetooth and actually have found it to be easy to setup and and very good quality, and this from a person who hates the distortion most Bluetooth connections add to a call.

I've found the stock 7 speaker audio system in the base model to be sub-par for a car of this class but not horrible. If I could do it all over again, I would probably spring for at least the premium package ($2000 retail) to get at least the 14-speaker Lexicon system.

As far as ride, I think the ride is excellent about 99% of the time, but that 1% can be rough. On a recent road trip I hit a stretch of interstate that made it buck so hard my teeth chattered. That stretch was only about 5 miles of a 1600 mile round trip, but those 5 miles were really bad. In the nearly 9,000 miles I've put on it so far I've really not seen that ride problem that bad again, but I've found a few other roads that make it a little squirrelly.

Overall, I'm still happy with the ride, but if I lived in an area where more roads were more inconsistent I might not be as happy. I would drive the car carefully on as many road surfaces as your dealer will allow you to drive on and judge for yourself.

I still like my Genesis and think it is a fine car, I suspect I'll be happy with it for a long time and I think if I had it to do over again I would still make the same decision, although with the premium package upgrade.

Good luck no matter what you decide.

Later,
Tom

My daughter purchased one 12/26. Fuel door issue off the bat which the dealer is taking care off. I drove her car over the weekend and was very impressed.

I noticed the car is running very tight which I expected since it has less than 200 miles on the odometer when I drove it. I expect a performance change after a few more miles, but my daughter will probable be gone home by that time.

My wife and I have an 06 Acura TL which we are fond of, but would not have any concerns about getting a Genesis if we were in the market. We had a few issues with the rear subwoofer raddling, which were taken care of by the dealer.

I would suggest that dealers get one for people to test drive so they car keep the miles down on the ones they are selling, which would give a person time to really test drive the Genesis.

Cviz: I am the happy and proud owner of V6 with Tech. Pckg. I leased it on Aug 2 and so far I have not encountered any problems. Everything works the way is meant to.

"Rare Occurrences" would be the phrase from my perspective. I've had mine since Aug. '08--about 6700 miles now, and in the words of an oldie..."lovin' every minute of it!" Glad I made the purchase--no regrets--got a great deal buying the first one in my area back then, and haven't looked back...(except to check out the looks on everyone else's face when I go by)! Finally, a classy ride w/great gas mileage (avg. 22-25 mpg overall).

I bought a Cabernet Red Pearl w/black interior V6 Prem. Plus pkg...14-spkr system sounds INCREDIBLE!!! Nav system didn't come w/this particular car, but I didn't need/want one.

Get one....you'll be glad you did!

PS: Did I mention the 100,000 mile drivetrain warranty???

This is a hard one. If someone I knew was about to purchase a Genesis, I would advise them to wait, and it has nothing to do with the "Hyundai" badge. My husband said essentially the same thing in another thread.

To have a new car with problems is not a fun experience, and it doesn't matter if it's a BMW, a Toyota, or a Buick. When someone purchases a new car, they have a reasonable expectation for it to be trouble free. That somehow I can console myself with the fact that my troublesome car didn't cost as much as a Mecedes doesn't help as my traded-in vehicle was less expensive and never had one issue in three years. When the problems lead to a replacement car and it develops the same issues as the first car-it makes it hard to believe it is just a coincidence.

To be clear, it is not mechanical and the car(s) have never left me stranded, so that is something I feel good about. It is all about tech package and intermittent lack of audio. At different times, the lack of audio was accompanied by (but not all the time) CD player not playing, steering wheel controls not working, DIS knob not functional, re-initializing of nav system, no tuning of AM/FM stations, no voice recognition, other weird malfunctions...but always there would be no audio.

Even with all that said...I'm rooting for the car and sincerely hope Hyundai finds the solution. My husband sweetly offered to try to return the car and get me something else...and I declined...because I do like the car. I guess I'm not an "unhappy" owner...just conflicted.

Ok, it is my third Hyundai, but, a bit to my own surprise, I would say , "Why wait?".

I have found absolutely nothing that I would say is a "show stopper", and an awful lot of the "issues" that have surfaced have been "I should have read the manual". Seriously, there really is little that this car got wrong, and the future editions are likely to be more expensive not less expensive.

Again, I say, why wait?"

This car is one of the best cars I have ever owned and at the price its a no brainer!!! Maybe I'm lucky but to date I have no complaints and no issues!

No...you're not "lucky"--it's how Hyundai builds their cars!! I suppose you could consider yourself lucky because you didn't buy something else! The phrase "buyer's remorse" has been used several times on this forum and it's a crock (AKA pseudonym for "I don't like the Hyundai name or badge"). I'd be willing to bet that if you changed the badge on the car and told someone it was a Lexus, BMW, MB, or some other manufacturer with a new product they were introducing, they wouldn't know the difference!!

Enjoy!

With all due respect, DanTheMan, some of us have not been so "lucky" and it has nothing whatsoever to do with the "H" on the back of the car. If I was that sort of person then there would've been nothing you could have done to make me buy the car in the first place.

There are tons of minor problems with cars these days. If everyone followed this advice BMW (of which I am a current owner) would not sell one car.

I think its smart to say wait if major problems are uncovered. I believe most car companies have minor technological problems because of all the new fancy tech gadgets in cars these days.

From my research I dont see any more problems with this car compared to other cars. Hyundai also has been getting great reviews from Consumer Reports for years so I have no problem with the brand either.

The more competition the better!

While you may have experienced a real problem with your car, the presence of the "H" on the car DOES have everything to do with it. If this were an MB we were talking about, for example, you'd have less concern that whatever issue would be resolved. It's your (the marketplace in general) perception I'm referring to. Billions are spent in the marketplace by companies doing what they can to affect and improve that perception that people have. Hyundai has come a long way from the old "Excel", but so many people still have that image--and the company behind it--in their mind. If it wasn't the case, then the "H" would sell twice as many cars.

Again, understand that I recognize you have a problem with your vehicle. I still believe your concerns would be diminished if the car were a recognized luxury brand.

Dan

No regrets what so ever. This is a world class car, irregardless of the suspension issue. As noted in another thread the 3.8 just got the second highest point total in the history of Consumer Reports
