If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I searched the threads for synthetic oil change COST... but couldn't find anything specific to SYNTHETIC oil change.

PLEASE FORGIVE THE RANT...

I purchased my used CPO 2022 Genesis G70 (3.3 T Sport Prestige) 3 months ago with 7000 miles on it. They did a service at the time of purchase using conventional oil (as the sticker for next due read 3 mo./ 3000 miles).

I booked today's service (10,000 miles) with my local dealer via my Genesis Owners Homepage. The cost reflected $55.95 (again, for conventional).
When I dropped the car off, I requested Full-Synthetic oil.
I was told that the oil change would cost $205.00!!
For JUST the oil change... no other service.

When I questioned the cost, I was told that it reflected the expensive cost of the oil and "because it is a luxury brand car."

I left the car there and began calling all the dealers in New England to comp their FULL SYNTHETIC prices. The highest I found was $104, but that included tire rotation....
When I brought this comparison to the Service Manager's attention, she told me that I'm free to go elsewhere. I asked if they had ANY thought of customer retention. She said that she doesn't set the prices and that they are set independently at each dealership.
When I asked about the $55.95 online price (for conventional- which I would never run in a 3.3 turbo), she said that was a "mistake" and they she is aware that the online prices are wrong.
The same service manager also told me that there's no benefit using Full Synthetic and there's no need to run anything but 87 octane

She said I'm the first Genesis owner to complain about the price of an oil change.
I found that VERY hard to believe.

I have left several messages for the GM to contact me and am considering other options.
For now, I am not naming the dealer in question in hopes that the GM contacts me in an attempt to "make this right."

*** I'm reaching out to see if anyone has experienced this level of PRICE GOUGING at their dealership? ***

I have the paperwork ($205) and screenshots (of the online booking) to back up the above.

I would normally never take the time/effort to post regarding something like this. But when you WANT to trust a brand a develop a "relationship" with a dealer after spending nearly $50,000, it leaves me wondering what the business model and mindset is for a manager to simply say, "you are free to go elsewhere."

Well you state it is for the oil change only. At that price it may include a good dose of KY too.

I'd expect $110 to $120 from dealer or some of the quick lube places. If you don't hear back, do your neighbors a favor and let us know the dealer so they can decide where to go.

As for the 87 octane there are a couple of threads here about that. Check them out when you have lots of time.

It was, in fact, full-synthetic oil change only... nothing else.

Labor - 73.00
Parts - 116.99
Shop Supplies - 3.65
Tax - 12.30

Total - 205.94

After calling all the other Genesis dealers in this part of the country, specifically asking for full-synthetic oil change, the best price I found was $74.00... the worst I found was $104 (but, that included tire rotation).

When I showed the Service Manager that list, she repeated, "you're free to go wherever you want."

Well, I guess you should oblige her and go somewhere else. Does not seem that she wants your business and if that is the attitude, she is going to have on an oil change, I do not think I would want them to do any type of service or maintenance on my vehicle. You should also post a review with this info.

Really sorry you had this happen. Makes ownership tough when you do not have good maintenance support. Quick lube places can do this since you do not have complimentary oil changes. My Nisan Titan took over 7 quarts of oil every change. I think I only paid $65 for synthetic the last time I had it changed.

I completely agree that they will not be getting my business going forward. I have 3 dealerships to choose from within 45 minutes of me.

I don't really trust the quick lube places after one of them did some damage to a previous car. Not to mention, I thought I was buying a "luxury brand" the manager kept referring to... so I WAS looking forward to the luxury service experience.

Yeah... not so apparently.

If I don't hear back from the GM by Monday, I'll be posting the location and an online Google review.

Sucks.. I wanted to be happy.

$205 is high. The 3.3 takes 7.29qts, so we would bill it out as an 8qt oil change. $47.38 in parts, which would include Valvoline full synthetic oil. Then probably $20 or so in labor. I'm not sure what our service dept charges. We probably will be bumping our prices again soon though because my cost of oil went up again a few months ago. My cost for oil has almost tripled in price the last 2 years, and we only bumped our prices up $5 about 2 years ago. Nothing since.

Don't despair. You will be happy. The vehicle is great. You will just need to find the right dealer to work on it. Unfortunately, Genesis does not have control of a dealership or the maintenance they do. At worst, Genesis can pull the dealerships franchise if they are really bad, but I do not think they do that. At least have not heard of it. Are the dealers in your are Genesis dealers or Hyundia dealers? Genesis is working hard to get stand-alone dealers and service setup, but it will take a while. Many Hyundia dealers quit selling Genesis because they had to build a separate facility to continue to sell and service Genesis. The brand will come around on the service and sales side. People will just need to be patient. Good luck my friend.

It's a Hyundai / Genesis dealer who is in the process of building a stand-alone down the street. I told her that I wanted to remain a loyal customer (knowing that the stand-alone is on the way)... she didn't seem to care too much about that.

I bought two five quart jugs of synthetic oil, a filter, and two wheel ramps for just shy of $140. It was surprisingly easy to do the change myself, even on my first try (my G70 just turned 3600 miles). And I'll say to you as I say to my friends: I do the oil change myself because I simply don't want someone else touching the car, making mistakes, saying they used Syn oil when they didn't, etc. I completely understand where you're coming from.

There will come a day when I'm too old or infirmed to change my own oil. But until then, "Hands off!" :-)

Is she the Genesis Service Rep at the dealer or the Hyundia Service Rep. Maybe she will not be at the Genesis dealership. Also, you may want to see if you can talk to the General Manager of the dealership and tell them what she said. If he is worth anything, he would be interested in how customers are being treaded by the service department. If he does not do anything, check and see if you can contact the owner.

Genesis Corporate might help you out if you get the right person. It is hit or miss too. Some people get great people that try to help while others get no help at all. So far, I have had great experience, but I also have not had any real issues other than some software issues. Have not done a service yet but I really do not anticipate any issue since I have been dealing with the same Hyundia/Genesis dealer for over 15 years.

They are going to be building a stand-alone Genesis dealership. Just do not have a timetable yet. They do have the land, but because of supply issues for parts and inventory, they do not want to have to invest if a new building until things get better. I do not blame them at all.

Good for you. Understand your concerns too. Have you looked at the demographics of Genesis owners? G70 is a bit lower though. I gave away my ramps 25 years ago.

You saying Genesis owners in general are old farts and the G70 owners just a little less of an old fart? I might resemble that for turning 60 this year. Still have my ramps for sometimes working in the driveway with those is just convenient for something quick vs moving cars around to get in the garage to use my lift. Aligning all 4 lift arms takes several trips around the car to be sure they lift at the right spot. My G70 always goes on the lift for oil changes so I can look at the whole undercarriage for leaks or issues. Cost difference of conventional oil vs full synthetic at Walmart for 5 qt jug is not that much. I was still paying around $24.95 for mobile 1 or Pennzoil Ultra last time. My kid uses a blend in his Honda and it was only $3.00 cheaper than full synthetic. A dealer charging 2 or 3 times more for the cost of conventional oil vs synthetic is just bending you over cause they can. Actual cost difference is no where near that.

She was the Service Manager - over both brands.
I called and left a message for the GM. Then, I went back in person ASKING for the GM. I was told he was busy both times.

She was the Manager of the Service Dept. Both brands...
Her knowledge of the G70 seemed limited though. Her comment that there's "no reason" to use full synthetic oil was enough for me to already lose faith in servicing the car there.

I'll try to go up the chain of command tomorrow, but I'm not holding my breath at this point.

Genesis turbo motors require 0W30 synthetic. If they say regular oil is OK, I would not let them touch my car.

I tried explaining that to her.
She just looked at me, dead faced... and said, "I've never had a Genesis owner complain about our price, or the use of semi-synthetic."

Maybe the car owners aren't aware that they're not getting full synthetic.
I asked because that's all I run in my cars.

She should look at the specs. It specifically call for 0W30 full synthetic.

Can you copy that here. I would like to keep it for reference

For my GV80, in chapter 2 of the owner's manual under RECOMMENDED LUBRICANTS and CAPACITIES, the charch shows:

SAE oW-30, API SN PLUS/SP or ILSAC GHF-6

It also has a flag 5 as follows:

*5: Requires <API SN PLUS (or above) Full Synthetic> grade engine oil. If lower grade engine oil (mineral oil including Semi-synthetic) is used, then engine oil and engine oil filter must be replaced as indicated severe maintenance condition.

Under normal use, the vehicle is scheduled for oil and filter change every 8000 miles unless severe maintenance condition and then it is every 5000 miles.

I had that printed out and showed it to her at the dealership, with the warnings highlighted.

She actually said, "we've never had a problem with semi-synthetic. But, you are welcome to get full-synthetic.... for $205."

One option : ask for the $56 oil change and bring your own synthetic ($~35). Then watch them put it in. best of both worlds.

I'd give up on such poor service honestly. I left the brand last year because of multiple similar stories.
