Genesis Dealership?

Does anybody have the scoop on this? I'm talking about a Genesis ONLY dealership. Meaning they keep all those Elantras and Sonatas with Hyundai, and only showcasing the G80 and G90. Like Scion, Infiniti, Lexus, etc. I remember reading about it but not sure if it was fabricated or not.

Seeing all these horrible reviews for Hyundai dealers is making me very hesitant on bringing our car in for any type of service.
 
I'm pretty sure that Hyundai has said that at least as of now, they aren't planning on doing another entirely separate dealer network akin Toyota - Lexus, etc...

Also....and this is more important. This is a message board where people typically go to find information out about an issue or problem or check with others to see if they've experienced a certain issue or problem. Keep in mind that for every "horrible" review, there's probably 10 or more people on here with no problem(s). You just rarely hear about it because it's expected, right? No point in coming on here, creating a thread and saying everything went as it was supposed to.

For example, I had my first oil change this last Thursday. I have never had a Hyundai or dealt with any of their service departments in my life prior to Thursday. I made my appointment, went to the dealership. Everyone was very friendly, they were curious how I got my tire recall handled since they know they didn't do it. My oil change was done in 45 minutes and they even washed and vacuumed my car which I didn't expect at all. All of that for a measly $32. Couldn't have went better/been happier.

Think you misunderstood my post or I guess I didn't explain it well enough. My reference was to Yelp reviews, not this forum. I'm fully aware of a "message board" as this is not the only one I'm active in.

I'm also not a newbie to the car/dealership scene, but hey, thanks for the input.

Care to name the dealership that gave you such great service?
 
I'm really not interested in removing myself from the company of the proletariat driving their Sonatas and Elantras - I was one of those people before I traded my Sonata against the Genesis.

Far more important than a separate dealer stream is that the dealership - whether general Hyundai or all-Genesis - provide courteous and professional service. My Hyundai dealership does that. My colleague who drives an E Class has found the dealership experience to suck mightily - basically they view him as a walking open wallet and nothing more.

Also keep in mind that luxury dealership "perks" aren't free - they are baked into the price of the car. I'd rather keep the price low than spend money to subsidize pastries, cappuccinos, and leather lounge chairs for everyone else. I'm not looking to turn servicing into a social event. I drop off my car and get a return ride from the shuttle. I have better places to be than a car dealership regardless of how posh.

You are absolutely correct. If sales every rise enough to justify separate dealerships, then maybe. They will be adding a smaller sedan, and probably 2 SUV/CUV's to the line up in the next 2-4 years, and then maybe it might work to have separate dealerships.

But as others have mentioned, the price of the cars will likely have to go up to pay for separate dealerships, or at the very least the big discounts from MSRP will have to scaled way back. Another factor could be the exchange rate for Korean Wan against the US dollar since, so far at least, these cars are made in Korea, unlike most of the other Hyundai cars sold in the USA.
 
Dealerships are like wives, when you find a good one, you keep her :D

I would say your friend with the E class is more the exception than the rule

Mercedes benz service and dealership proposition is at the top of the pile
Granted..its not free

But the dealerships are generally very nice , fully staffed and include umpteen amenities...business centers, cappuccino bars..etc etc

In the bigger cities with the larger benz dealerships..they are typically quite opulent

If Hyundai wants to see any respectable volume in car that is over $70K
I just dont think their current dealer network set up is going to work
I think at that price and higher..people have different expectations and it seems are willing to pay more
Everyone understands its not free....but I think for the same reason you cant expect to readily sell a mansion that is built in the hood...at a certain price people have different expectations

I personally had a horrible buying experience with my Equus
Worst one, by far, I have ever had
One of the Hyundai dealership locally as well had not met expectations

I went to another further away...25 minutes...and they seem to be much better
Dealership is nothing special inside...but their service level is better

There were no CUV/SUV's back then in 1990 when Lexus started. Toyota had the Land Cruiser, which was OK for the Australian Outback or Africa. They had the 4-runner, which was basically a pickup truck with a roof over the truck bed. The first SUV/CUV for Lexus was the RX in 1999, nine years after the Lexus launch. It would be suicide to launch a brand with a separate dealer network these days without at least one SUV/CUV. I am pretty sure that will be my next vehicle.

The 2009 Hyundai Genesis was launched in the US in 2008, just after one of the worst financial crisis in US history. The number of auto dealers in the US was in major shrink mode at that time. The last thing manufacturers wanted was more dealerships. Many GM, Ford, and Chrysler dealers doubled up on brands, previously sold at separate dealers.

If the economy stays on track for a few more years, and they round out their product line (brands like Acura now sell way more SUV's/CUV's than sedans, and even Lexus sold more SUV/CUV's than sedans or sports coupes in 2015), then "maybe" Hyundai will consider separate dealerships for Genesis brand in the US.

Personally, I stay away from dealers as much as possible, to avoid it being a factor. And there is no reason why I have to use the same dealer where I purchased my vehicle. And I don't drink no stinking cappuccino.
