  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've seen a few threads related to questions about what the Genesis Dynamic Voice Recognition system can and cannot do. While the owners manual has a long list of commands, the owners manual does omit some fairly interesting commands the system will accept. The point of this thread is to list all the known commands the system will understand from the voice command prompt. My original goal was to list everything in the first post of this thread and edit the post with each new discovery, but it appears after a day or so I can no longer edit my own posts. Instead I will post a link below to a Google Sheet that I will edit and keep updated as new commands are discovered.

In the Google sheet I will list which commands the Dynamic Voice Recognition system will respond to, such as "Call <Name> at home" or "Find three zero zero main street in Anytown, State". I will not be listing all the individual values accepted like "Chili's" which is a POI name.

If you know of a command I do not have listed in the Google Sheet, please post to this thread what the command consists of. I will verify the command works and then add it to the list below. Oh, one last thing. As of right now this list of commands will be limited to commands confirmed that work in the USA. I'm not sure if there are commands that work in the USA and not in other places like Canada, but I cannot verify commands in/from other countries myself. If someone from Canada would like to confirm the commands work I can edit and create separate lists.

Global Commands sheet - can be used immediately after activating the voice recognition system and while the infotainment system is on any screen
Local Commands sheet- can be used when specific modes are currently being used.

Excellent work, thank you.

I do find the phone voice commands work very well. I hate having to say too many words when I use the voice system (I have to have some fun), so I call using commands like "Call Chris cell". If there is only one match you are all set otherwise you get a list of all matches it finds to choose from. You can say first or last name or both. You should add the word "cell" to your spreadsheet for calling commands.

As my nav voice commands do not work, I have no other shortcuts for now.

Good sheet mang. Is there a command to turn on ergo motion that anyone's aware of? I tried a few different things the other day and resigned to pushing the button. It'd be nice if there was a command to put it right to whole body.

Done.

I was unable to get the Ergo motion to activate using voice commands. Oddly enough, I can get the heated seats to turn on but was not able to get the ventilated seats to turn on. That seemed odd to me.

Today I think I'll start logging what commands work and what to say with things like "Tune radio to station 99.7"

The navigation commands never work for me. They did when I first picked up the car but with the last update, it no longer recognizes anything except "Call x"

Sorry that is happening to you. Sounds like there might be something wrong with the system, but this thread is for listing commands that have worked for owners. I don't want this thread to turn into trouble shooting an issue with using voice commands with an individual vehicle or questions how to use the infotainment system. I'd like to keep this on topic.

Thanks for the great info Deewan!!!

Voice commands are overrated. They work in the car better than they work at home. I've tried some common ones and ended with failure:
Get me a beer
I'd like a snack
Make me a ham sandwich

I’ve never used the onboard voice commands. I occasionally use Siri. But this list seems to be more definitive and straight forward. Will try these. Thank you for creating such a post!

I went in for service today and the dealer looked at my problem. They tested it and indeed, some voice commands (like the phone system) work absolutely fine which others (such as the NAV) do not work at all. Work order says they are ordering in a new "radio assy".

On the plus side, they gave me a G80 loaner, and the NAV voice commands worked perfectly for the few items I used it for, which is like a breath of fresh air compared to my experience with the GV70.

So I was trying to demonstrate how bad this system works to a friend of mine yesterday - and everything was working! I tried some of these commands Deewan summarized and almost everything worked really well!

So what changed? I haven't done a thing since I updated it in October...I really don't know!

Might be a dumb question but are you waiting for the beep before you issue the command?

Hey, you never know...worth asking, but yes I do wait for the beep! ;)

I had the same problem after applying the last Nav/Infotainment update. The voice commanding of the navigation system suddenly developed a case of the stupids. This afternoon, I start the vehicle and decide to try it again and Eureka, everything works perfectly! After a month of frustration, I'd called my local service manager and he suggested calling Customer Support at Genesis Canada. I was going to do that tomorrow. Maybe the fear of being reported to HQ caused to system to get it's act in gear! Some of the command formats seem to have changed slightly. Previously I'd ask "find address in <state/province>" and would be prompted with "what is the address and city in <state/province>. I'm now using "drive to <999> <street name> in <city>" as the entire command and it works perfectly.
A month or so ago I started the car and all the tags/titles for the information displayed in the speedo/tach console came up in Korean! It reverted to normal after driving and re-starting the car a few times. Hasn't happened since. Wishfully thinking, I thought that Genesis/Korea had done an OTA update and I now had the "only available in Korea" integrated dashcam. That would be nice! It would be nice to know why we can't have that as a option in our vehicles.
