Genesis/Equus Tires

I notice that the Equus has Continental ContiPro Contact Grand Touring Tires. Grand Touring tires are known to ride better and quieter than performance tires. I am just wondering if a Grand Touring Tire might be a better fit for the Genesis.
I find it interesting that the Equus was not equipped with the Ultra High Performance Tire. I have the Continental Contact Extreme DWS on my Genesis which is a nice tire but being that it is a performance tire it has a little more tire noise than I prefer and is not as smooth as a Grand Touring Tire. When I purchase my tires I was leaning toward the Michelin HXMXM4 Grand Touring but let the tire dealer talk me into the Continental DWS. I really do not see the need for an Ultra High Performance Tire. I drove a Genesis loaner with Grand Touring Tires and was very impressed with the ride and very little road noise.

The Contis are smoother, quieter, and much better in snow (so far) than the Dunlops. But how much of that is due to the car, heavier weight, bigger/staggered size? I don't have a clue.

My Continental Contact Extreme DWS emit less tire noise and ride much smoother than the Dunlop's SP5000M and they are both an Ultra High Performance Tire but I have heard that a Grand Touring Tire may offer a smoother quieter ride than evevn a performance tire. It is for this reason that I believe that Hyundai equipped the Equus with not only a better tire but also a Grand Touring Tire. I am quite sure that the weight of your Equus helps with the better snow traction. I wish you many trouble free miles with your Equus.

I just replaced the Bridgestone runflats on my BMW with the Conti DWS tires. I also increased the aspect ratio from 40 to 45 in front and 35 to 40 in back. I did however keep the same section width. No problem with the fit. It is truly a changed car. It used to ride like the wheels were made of concrete now it is actually smooth and very quiet. The only issue that I had was the tire store mixing the front and rear rims and tires. They got the right size at each corner but the narrower front rims mounted to the rear tires and vice versa. Runflat issue was cured with a can of Slime in the trunk and AAA. My wife drives it and she even noticed the difference in the tires. These are Tire Racks top rated all season high performance tire and I can now understand why they are so difficult to get. Tire Rack had my sizes on indeterminate back order. I was able to get them from Tread Depot but they shipped the fronts from Columbus, Ohio and the rears from Atlanta. I got the last 2 fronts they had. I ended up after shipping, mounting and balancing at $775. Much less than the $1600 for replacement runflats and these can be fixed when they get a road puncture. Runflats are unfixable, when they get a puncture you throw them away and buy a new one at $400-$450 per corner. These are definitely going on the Genesis when it needs tires.

I was not overly impressed and felt that the Continental Grand Touring tires were put on the car to try and off set the harsher ride that you would get with the 19" wheels. I think it was a good try but on rough pavement I knew the car was riding on 19" wheels.The dealer offered me $1,000.00 off of sticker if I was interested in buying.
On my way home I stopped at a tire dealer that recommended a set of Toyo Versado XL Tires 235-50-18 V for my Genesis. The tire is supposed to be extremely quiet and offers a smooth ride. The tire sidewall and tread pattern looked very nice. The dealer claims the tire is better than both the Michelin Sport A/S and Continental Contact Extreme DWS. Most reviews on the tire are good but I will still continue to research. If anyone knows anything about this tire please post.

I will bet you $100 the tires were overinflated on the Sig!
My PDI was done, ready to drive off, and I said "one more thing".
Opened the door to read the inflation suggestions, got my digital gauge from the glove box and checked the right front and rears. They were at 40 and 41 respectively. Service manager had them at 30 lbs all around (using my gauge) in 10 minutes.
Try the ride again.
