As of this week, I'm the proud owner of a 2011 cabernet red pearl 4.6L Genesis sedan. Thanks much to everyone here who provided information that helped me with my choice and purchase.
The remainder of this post is mostly aimed at anyone who may be on the fence about the Genesis. I realize that the apparent forthcoming release of a refreshed model with a 5.0L engine, an 8 speed transmission, and other changes may affect your decision, though I elected not to wait. I also realize that issues will inevitably crop up over time. With that, here are my initial impressions:
1. Ride and handling: Compared to the '03 Infiniti G35 that I'm moving from, the Genesis feels smoother and more refined. I know that the ride is too jittery for some, but it's fine for me. When test driving, it's a good idea to try roads similar to the ones that you'll be traveling. I don't feel that I can push the Genesis around curves quite like I did with the Infiniti, but it is still very solid.
2. Tires: I was planning to swap the tires at or just after purchase, but I since decided to try the Dunlops for a while. They've been OK in dry conditions so far. I haven't been able to test them in the rain yet.
3. Features: I'm aware that there've been complaints about iPod and phone integration compared to other cars. Now, I'm coming from a car that had no similar functionality, so maybe the bar was set low. However, I've been very satisfied with the way my Genesis works with my iPhone and iPod. The sound system is excellent, and it's augmented by the quietness of the cabin.
Similarly, navigation and cruise control are much better than what I was used to. I especially like the adaptive cruise with driver-selectable spacing.
4. Seating: I haven't taken the car on any long trips yet, but the seat has felt very comfortable on short-medium drives. The car is much roomier than my G35 was.
5. Engine performance: The V8 has plenty of power for my driving style. I can only imagine what the 5.0L engine will do.
6. Color: I was a bit reticent about my choice of cabernet red pearl. However, I don't think that "red" does the color justice. It's closer to wine than red, and it changes its personality depending on the lighting. I think that my Genesis looks great, though this is clearly a matter of personal taste.
Overall, I'm thrilled with my Genesis. I know that I could have gotten an Infiniti, Lexus, BMW, or Mercedes with more bells & whistles, but at considerably more cost. It's also nice to drive a car that's rare enough around here to seem like a well-kept secret.
