  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis G70 "2nd Product Enhancement" slated for May, will receive 2.5T engine

Maybe I'm an outlier, but I really am not too concerned about anything that doesn't have to do with how the car actually drives and performs. If it was up to me, Genesis should revive the R-Spec Edition they used to offer with the Genesis Coupe. I would love a 2.5T R-Spec built no fluff and no weight-penalties (like sunroof, power trunk, etc.) but with all the performance goodies: track-tuned suspension (w/ adjustable front), eLSD, up-spec'ed Brembo brakes ((6/4piston w/ larger rotors), lightweight forged wheels, and chassis braces. Maybe even bring back the 6MT just for that package.

Of course, chances of that happening... zero.

Not necessarily. It'll be be in production before the middle of the year, so it may very well still be considered a MY 2023 vehicle internally- the dealer notes say nothing about this being a MY 2024 vehicle. And it'll be counted as MY 2024 in the U.S., which came out as MY 2019, meaning it'll end its run here at MY 2025 after 6 full years with the EV being released in MY 2026. And the U.S. is always one model year behind South Korea.

Additionally, it's not unheard of for a vehicle to enter production the same year as its model year- see the Ioniq 5 which came out in March 2021 for the 2021 MY in South Korea. So a G70 EV could be released exactly two years from now and it would still be considered a 2025 MY in Korea.

Mid-year for the Korean market.

At the earliest, we won't see it til towards the end of the year (in which it would be a '24MY).

The G70 launch for the US was delayed due to the mess up over state licensure, so can't really go by that.

Fact remains, the G70 is about to hit its 6 yr anniversary from when production started, so normally, should be seeing a new gen model, but instead, we are getting an "enhancement" which will tide over for at least a couple of years before it gets replaced by the BEV replacement.

My references to the possible timeline for the G70 replacement is for the NA market, but yeah, there's a possibility that we may see it as a '26MY, but highly doubt that it would be any earlier.

Rumors had it that Hyundai Corporate held back the G70 from getting the 2.5T, in order for give the Stinger a competitive edge, as it was almost ixnayed a few years back. Now that end of Stinger production has been made official, it's no surprising G70 is finally getting 2.5T as the base engine.

Highly doubt that was the case b/c, frankly, Genesis corporate could give a crap about Kia or the Stinger.

Plus, the Stinger (until recently) had continued to outsell the G70 not only in NA, but worldwide; so btwn the 2, it was the G70 that needed the help (also need to keep in mind that the majority of Stinger sales were for the V6 with the turbo 4 being discontinued in markets like Europe).

That's literally what I said lol. It'll be a 2024 MY for the U.S. market.

We absolutely can. The G70 refresh arrived in the U.S. for MY 2022, exactly 3 years after its debut as a 2019 MY. By the time this vehicle launches for the 2024 MY it will still have two years of life left before the generation runs its six-year course.

2025 for South Korea, 2026 for the rest of the world.

By your own provided first year (2019), six years will be in 2024:p (2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024).

If you can order the new spec car in May in Korea then wouldn't all the other markets be available then too? Are they all built in the same plant? If they re-tool for the 2024 car and start production in May then wouldn't the swap over be the end of 23 and the start of 24 in all markets (as far an manufacturing, not delivery)?

I just started my 3rd year of my (2021 Advanced) lease. Like others mentioned, the Stinger was not only getting the 2.5 but pretty much being a better overall value than the G70. I went to a local Kia dealer to do a deal drove a fully loaded 2.5. I really did not feel it was any (seat of the pants) quicker than my G70, the heavier hatchback probably negated any gains in power anyway. Could not make a deal as I was told I needed to take the car to the local Genesis dealer (that currently was setup in the USED car lot of our local Nissan dealer). I have taken my car there for the past 2 oil changes with very little confidence in them as they only had ONE service writer and ONE tech.

I really was not interested in doing a deal with them but upon picking up my car at the end of the day I saw an Uyuni White with Red interior Sport Prestige 2.0. A little touch and go with them (concerning availability as that car was already sold), but was able to get a deal. No one there (suprisingly) could tell me why the 2.5 was not available in the G70,

At the end of the day, the 2.0 is just fine for a premium "daily driver". Now that damn "half assed" display though...

2nd refresh pics leaked... as expected, revised HVAC controls with integral touchscreen display/control. Full TFT instrument panel would make a lot of folks happy. New wheels look like 19's. That's about it. Biggest news remains the Smartstream 2.5T replacing the Theta2 2.0T.

Son of a....

I have a 23 on order and it will be here very soon. The only thing I care about is the TFT dash. Is that for sure in our market?

Dunno. Saw these pics posted on a G70 FB page with no source link. My guess is if there were to be a 3D dash, it could be only on the highest trim package. OTOH, if it's a "plain" non-3D TFT dash... probably standard equipment across the board.

Another thing I noticed... the infortainment "head unit" is also revised. That could mean there might be features added to it, like wireless Android Auto or Carplay.

Clearly this 2nd refresh was given very limited budget, but I do like what they've done. For me, though, 2.5T is the only upgrade of any significance.

No, those photos are for the South Korean market (license plates), which already had the full digital display before the facelift.

The changes are so minute that this can barely be considered a refresh. At least the steering wheel cover looks like it's made of nicer material and the Hyundai stalks have been replaced with Genesis ones from the G80/GV80.

It looks identical to the current model. And even if it was updated to the newest infotainment, no single Genesis product has wireless AA or Carplay.

That's just the touchscreen display. The "head unit", where all the tuning and processing takes place, sits below it and has buttons and knobs on it.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Since I prefer the older style and put plenty into mine, if and when they do a new look, I just hope my 20's fit LOL,

The rest will not unless I can bring my CF emblems along!

I suppose getting the first year of the new style may be dumb as well and if they are doing a refresh in 3 years why bother. I barely have 24k miles.

Maybe keep it and buy a truck.
