  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello everyone. I was curious to know if the factory exterior lighting lens tint (head and taillights) on the G70 Sport Trim causes the exterior lighting to shine more dimly then the other trim levels without the factory tint. Thank you for allowing me to post this question.

Pretty sure the headlights only have the black inserts and copper accents. Not tinted.
The rear is factory tinted!

Doesn't factory tint dim the light output of the LEDs?

As said before, I don't think the headlights are tinted at all just the accents. The rear lights yes.

Thank you for the response. I will just stick with the Prestige trim line. No tint there.
You'd really have to look at them side by side at night. In any case, they have to meet the minimum standards set by the government.

The inside of the headlight is darkened, not the glass itself. It doesn't impact visibility, as the IIHS gives all trims (except the base 2.0T Advanced without LED headlights) a Top Safety Pick+ including light visibility. The taillights are tinted, but really it's super hard to tell they are tinted in comparing Sport trim pictures vs. non-Sport trims. It's definitely not like a midnight version of the car or something, and it doesn't look like an aftermarket tint.

Please explain why the tint on the tail lights appears to be one of the primary factors for you in deciding which trim line to buy.

I need to know.

I enjoy the appearance of the LED tail lights at night. If the factory tint is going to diminish that look, I will not purchase the G70 in the sport trim.

One day driving at night with a buddy...

JB - "Oh man, those tail-lights look awesome! I'm getting a car with tail lights exactly like that"

Friend - "I heard the sport model has those lights, except with a very light tint layer, and the sport has a few extra nice options as well!"

JB - "No way, completely changes the look, no dice. Options be damned, I want that exact light. Last week I almost rear ended a sport model because the lights were so dim when he was braking, never saw him".

Friend - "You're right, lights are the most difficult mod on a car anyways".

JB - "I'll check with the Genesis forum tomorrow and see what tint really means to be sure".

J/K - Welcome to the forum :)

Edit: I was told by the wife I'm an ass for writing this. She's probably right. All in good fun, glad your super polite or have a good sense of humor OP.

not buying a trim due to tinted tailights???...my dude. I would recommend looking into the features youre missing on Prestige vs the Sport and making your decision based on that and price

The tint is maybe 5% if any darker than non Sports. You can't tell unless it is side by side.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Appreciated. :)

Agreed.... my friend.

With Prestige you will loose the Adaptative Suspension and the darker accents, you will gain thoe awesome 10 spoke rims and a lighter interior. For me was simple, I chose the Prestige.

I prefer the lighter interior. Only Black is offered in the Sport trim with either grey or red stripping. That to me is a deal breaker. The only advantage I can see to having a black interior is that it hides scuffs, stains and dirt a lot better. I LOVE the Creme interior on the design Edition but man, imagine trying to keep that interior clean.

I went Prestige for this reason as well; and love my car. (Caveat--pretty sure if I had decided on the Sport I would have loved it as well; it is a great car.) And, if you have never had Heads Up Display--you may have a new "must have" feature in a car.

This Genesis G70 rights all of the wrongs from my Lexus IS250. Things that totally annoyed me about the Lexus and that I thought was unacceptable for a car in this class has been corrected in the G70. It is like Genesis read my mind.
