If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
Genesis G70
Folks, I am in a crossroad not sure what to choose.

2018 new IS 350 RWD fully loaded MSRP 50,000 but since 2019 are already here they are offering for apx 40K

I am very interested in G70 though however I am little disappointed with less than subpar fuel consumption.. not sure if G70 needs premium fuel or not but 12 -13 mpg is awful in this day and age.

Any suggestions or recommendations ?

Genesis web site show 22/30. Where are you getting fuel numbers? It will be far better than that/

I think you really need to do more homework before deciding.

oops sorry. I didn't. I got those numbers from this discussion board. Some owners reported they are getting around 10- 14 mpg for the 3.3T version.

Thank you for the response. I was more concerned about the reliability of G70..! Lexus IS is a much better know entity. But besides that, was wondering if IS350 drives more quieter?

Since the 2018 deal is not going to last till G70 hits the road, I am trying to gather as much info as possible to decide on this with out being able to drive G70..

Genesis is not doing any one a favor by delaying the car so deep into the year they are supposed to release.

I went the first 5000kms with premium fuel and then switched over to regular unleaded. I now have approx 9000kms on the car and haven't noticed any performance difference and the fuel mileage is pretty much the same.

Thats very interesting. Does it say to use Premium on the gas cap?

This is a pic from page F7 in the owners manual.

There is a video on youtube that has the Genesis Canada rep saying it's OK to run regular unleaded fuel in the car. He does mention that there will be a little bit of a performance loss. The car is still very fast and I can't tell the difference myself.

Nobody is driving this in the US yet. I think you may be confusing some of the numbers you've seen from the Canadian drivers where their cars measure fuel usage in liters per 100 km and not mpg. Look at Beefers link to the fueleconomy.gov site and you can see the US ratings in mpg as we know here.

If fuel economy is a big factor the G70 will lose to almost everything, fuel economy is dreadful, i would take G70 all day over the lexus unless you dont care about performance

Lexus has fallen behind the times. My Gen 2 IS350 made 306 hp, which was a blast in 2006. Thirteen years later, Gen 3 IS still uses the same engine and gains only FIVE hps, and the spindle grill that resembles a Predator's maw.

I came from a 16 IS350 luxury package, not f-sport, and now driving the G70 for the past 3 months, my mom is driving the IS now. What I am going to say is based on my experience with my 16 IS350 non f sport.

Fuel consumption:
When driving both in eco mode, g70 is better by a slim margin, I really mean slim, 12.5 L per 100km vs 13.3 L in the IS.
When having fun, IS is better in this department. Lexus runs on premium, G70 can run on both premium and regular, it has the same engine has the stinger. I did feel a tinnnnnny bit of the boost coming I'm a tiny bit earlier when running in shell 92. I do mostly city driving, maybe 10% highway, maybe.

Power:
G70 wins hands down. IS is no turd by any means, it has 306 hp on a NA V6 but u have to really rev it up to put a smile on your face. G70's turbo comes in down low. One of my main complaint with the IS is it's low rev power, the car feels slow and heavy in eco mode, sport mode is not bad but u really can't compare it to a turbo v6. But when u rev it up, u wil l smile, especially with the engine grunt. Handling wise both car feels pretty good to a regular driver like myself. The IS and the Caddy ATS' handling are rated pretty high in the compact sports sedan segment, according to many reviewers.

RIDE:
I kinda miss the cushy leathers in the IS. The NAPA leather in the G70 is supposed to be nicer, but I find it not as cushy as the IS. My IS did not have the adaptive suspension, it rides softer than the comfort mode in G70. Rear seat leg room is a bit better in the Lexus.

Road noise:
IS is quieter. It's a Lexus after all.

Reliability:
Too early for me to tell. No problem with either car, maybe Lexus wins because it is a Lexus.

Tech: G70 hands down. Yes I know my IS is 2 years older but I think even the new ones don't have 360 camera, apple carplay Android auto, adaptive headlight, it doesn't even have a sunglasses holder. BUT IS has a nice 10 inch wide screen, and I may be the odd one here but I actually like the mouse pad control in my IS better than the G70's touch screen. Oh and g70 has HUD and folding mirrors which the lexus lacks.

Design:
I like both. People hate the predator grill in the IS but I like it better than the Germans. IS will get a new design sooner than the g70, in a year or 2 supposely. G70 does have a larger sunroof I will give them that. Interior wise, maybe IS is more refined, but I have no problem with either.

Value:
If u can get a fully loaded is350 fsport for 40k full loaded it is a good value, vs spending 12k more for the g70 according to US price? U do get a lot more in the g70 but only u can tell if it is worth the 12k. I don't know about the resell value down the road, maybe lexus holds better value? I really dont know.

IS likely will be discontinued shortly - it's an aging model. Look at the new ES F Sport - I test drove it this weekend - incredible ride. Bigger than the G70 I believe and perhaps not as fast but creamy smooth buttery engine and it is fast enough for me - naturally aspirated still and runs on regular. And of course any Lexus will hold value far better than Genesis if you're at all concerned with that aspect.

Yea but the ES is a front wheel Drive which is abhorrent. . for Amy performance driver.. and the interior on ES is lets say not as good as IS or GS. Its very Camryish

Dont ya think?

Thank you for the detailed view. I concur that Value wise IS might be a good option only if I can get it at 40K fully loaded.. other wise 45k model MSRP on G70 3.3 might offer similar price if negotiated. In that case I dont think Lexus stands out with respect to value anymore.

I am hoping since Genesis is a newer brand, they are more aggressive in pushing the car more in volume by lowering prices or aggressive lease options.

I hope for the American customers there will be wiggle room in price but here in Canada it is set in stone and is what it is.

Maybe it will be different if Hyundai stores are selling them but the price on the website is what you pay, i did think i saw something regarding freight charge of $999 in the US, in Canada that is built into the price

Freight is $995.

Pricing is on a dealer by dealer basis. Some will haggle...some will upcharge...some will do MSRP. So not standardized across the board.
