If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis G70 vs Lexus IS350

Yea but the ES is a front wheel Drive which is abhorrent. . for Amy performance driver.. and the interior on ES is lets say not as good as IS or GS. Its very Camryish

Dont ya think?
Not even close on the 2019 redesigned model. This looks like a Camry?? I get the FWD vs AWD but that doesn't matter to me at all.

oops sorry. I didn't. I got those numbers from this discussion board. Some owners reported they are getting around 10- 14 mpg for the 3.3T version.

Current owners have so far all been in Canada and we are referring to liters per 100km which is where the 10-14 numbers are coming from. :)

As for the IS350 vs the G70, I drove both and the IS feels so much slower than the G70 3.3T that I didn't consider it too closely. Plus I personally hate the look of the front of the IS350. The headlights look "challenged" to me...

so converting them into MPG what do you think it will translate to ? I am not sure how to convert that

10L/100km is about 24mpg and 14L/100km is about 17mpg.

For me I have been averaging just over 10L/100km in mixed driving with probably a little higher freeway driving than average. They guys averaging 14ish would definitely be heavy on city driving and with a heavy foot.

your numbers are based on 3.3T or 2.0T?

I came from a 16 IS350 luxury package, not f-sport, and now driving the G70 for the past 3 months, my mom is driving the IS now. What I am going to say is based on my experience with my 16 IS350 non f sport.

Fuel consumption:
When driving both in eco mode, g70 is better by a slim margin, I really mean slim, 12.5 L per 100km vs 13.3 L in the IS.
When having fun, IS is better in this department. Lexus runs on premium, G70 can run on both premium and regular, it has the same engine has the stinger. I did feel a tinnnnnny bit of the boost coming I'm a tiny bit earlier when running in shell 92. I do mostly city driving, maybe 10% highway, maybe.

Power:
G70 wins hands down. IS is no turd by any means, it has 306 hp on a NA V6 but u have to really rev it up to put a smile on your face. G70's turbo comes in down low. One of my main complaint with the IS is it's low rev power, the car feels slow and heavy in eco mode, sport mode is not bad but u really can't compare it to a turbo v6. But when u rev it up, u wil l smile, especially with the engine grunt. Handling wise both car feels pretty good to a regular driver like myself. The IS and the Caddy ATS' handling are rated pretty high in the compact sports sedan segment, according to many reviewers.

RIDE:
I kinda miss the cushy leathers in the IS. The NAPA leather in the G70 is supposed to be nicer, but I find it not as cushy as the IS. My IS did not have the adaptive suspension, it rides softer than the comfort mode in G70. Rear seat leg room is a bit better in the Lexus.

Road noise:
IS is quieter. It's a Lexus after all.

Reliability:
Too early for me to tell. No problem with either car, maybe Lexus wins because it is a Lexus.

Tech: G70 hands down. Yes I know my IS is 2 years older but I think even the new ones don't have 360 camera, apple carplay Android auto, adaptive headlight, it doesn't even have a sunglasses holder. BUT IS has a nice 10 inch wide screen, and I may be the odd one here but I actually like the mouse pad control in my IS better than the G70's touch screen. Oh and g70 has HUD and folding mirrors which the lexus lacks.

Design:
I like both. People hate the predator grill in the IS but I like it better than the Germans. IS will get a new design sooner than the g70, in a year or 2 supposely. G70 does have a larger sunroof I will give them that. Interior wise, maybe IS is more refined, but I have no problem with either.

Value:
If u can get a fully loaded is350 fsport for 40k full loaded it is a good value, vs spending 12k more for the g70 according to US price? U do get a lot more in the g70 but only u can tell if it is worth the 12k. I don't know about the resell value down the road, maybe lexus holds better value? I really dont know.
I'm heavily considering a Lexus as a competitor to the G70 since I like a comfy ride and don't care as much about power. How's the body roll in the IS? And it seems like a lot of touch points, like the door handles and center console buttons, are plastic; is that true?

Edmguy and Myself have the 3.3T, i drove for 3 straight days in eco mode and tried to get the best fuel economy i could, all city driving and my usage was 13.5L/100km i have 2500km on the car, not sure if that makes a difference

My person opinion is that interior design is not very good looking. To each their own.

Yeah, mine is 3.3T sport. I can easily get mid 8's on the highway (~28mpg) and I probably in the 14-15L/100km in full city (~16-17mpg) but again I usually am in the low 10's. I do have over 10,000km now and it definitely improved a bit after around 5,000km.

I am hoping since Genesis is a newer brand, they are more aggressive in pushing the car more in volume by lowering prices...
Not a typical strategy for a new luxury brand attempting to lure buyers from a premium-priced market. It may work for moving Elantras or Sonatas, but is contrary to the whole perception of upper-tier marketing.

That is the case for sure. Once they start mass discounting, they may as well just sell Hyundais.

I wouldn't say it's a bad idea. One thing a new brand has to do before getting anywhere is increase market share, and discounts can help that. Market share may not be such an important metric for something as non disposable or often replaced as cars, but with how many people lease luxury vehicles, this may be the ideal segment to focus on market share. Also, increased presence will help set up the brand for success with the main product: the SUVs, which will come later. Of course this is all an assumption of reasoning and I have no actual knowledge on marketing or hard data, so if someone knows better please correct me.

I think in the end, there will be good discounts on the G70 after a while because of difficulty selling. The Alfa Romeo Giulia was in a very similar position to the G70 now, and I don't think it's really made much progress.

I think the G70 will eventually sell decent volume but not before they bring the darn thing to market. They are losing market share for sure with these delays.

Not necessarily true for a luxury brand. Sometimes discounts can hurt the perceived value of the brand, in my opinion.

IS has that mousepad that you use to navigate the menus for the infotainment screens. That alone killed it for me. G70 all day if performance factors into your decision any at all.

I'm sure Alfa's poor reliability reputation and lack of dealerships has nothing to do with that.

Folks, I am in a crossroad not sure what to choose.

2018 new IS 350 RWD fully loaded MSRP 50,000 but since 2019 are already here they are offering for apx 40K

I am very interested in G70 though however I am little disappointed with less than subpar fuel consumption.. not sure if G70 needs premium fuel or not but 12 -13 mpg is awful in this day and age.

Any suggestions or recommendations ?
Genesis G70 is a sports car as it's real intent by the designer was made for performance it's not an economy fuel saving vehicle. The primary reason for that is it has very aggressive gears. Even the 6th gear is too short that it's not enough to reach top speed. That tells you how dang aggressive the gearing is on the G70. As a result you will have inferior fuel economy compared to other cars in similar class. The only way to get descent fuel saving out of this car is to take off very gently and keep the speed low. Let the car use top gear at low speeds and be very easy on the gas pedal then you'll have reasonable gas mileage.

Makes complete sense. But it's all irrelevant until those of us in the US can actually purchase one of these:)
