  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

i've purchased new 2012 3.8 genesis last week. I just love this car!! I've purchased front and back genesis emblems from ebay. Truck emblem was very easy to install. There is even a video on youtube. My main question is how to install the hood emblem. It looks like i need to drill holes on the hood (which I am not willing do to). How do you install this?

edit: Best place to order is right here!

Most people use a dremel to cut off the posts from the emblem, which is designed for the korean hood which has the holes for the emblem.

I would not drill holes. cutting off the studs on back of wing emblem is a better idea I think.

Even better, leave it off altogether and don't spoil the clean look of an unadorned hood (IMO, of course...)

There are a literally hundreds of posts (and some videos) on this subject posted in this forum.

Don't even think about drilling holes in your aluminium hood. The tape is strong enough to hold it in place (however, I would clean the hood thoroughly, and try and remove any wax you have applied).

The biggest challenge is alignment since you will not be using the pins. Best advice I have seen is to use some masking tape to outline the position once it looks good (before removing the tape backing on the back of the wing).

I cut the post with a Dremel and used tape to aline.
15 minute job at most.

It looked really good.

Always liked the wings in front of the Geny:cool:

Having just done this "drill" in the past month on my 2012, just secure the emblem and grind off or snip off the hollow posts until it is below the level of the 3M tape. I then cut two small circular pieces of similar 3M tape and put in the middle of the holes to cover the raw plastic and give it a bit more stick, and centered the emblem above the nose on the hood and pressed down and held it for about 30 seconds to ensure a good grip.

;)

I did the trunk myself and carried the Hood to the Dealership thinking they would dril the hood. They just ground down the post and put it on. They told me it would never come off. Center on the center of the grill and measure the two lower tip same distance from edge of hood your balanced. you can tap for lower edge of the wing then. Very simple job, looks awesome.

1. which ebay buyer did u use? i heard most of the emblems sold are cheap fakes, not OEM.

2. how hard is the install for the steering wheel? i am only interested in the trunk and steering wheel emblems.

thx!

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I got mine from vip_snow and am very happy. I damaged one of the wheel center covers during installation and he responded to my E-mail in hours and sold me just one cover which he did not have listed on E
Bay, and it promptly arrived as promised.

Anyone know if the emblems from Korean Auto Imports are OE? THey show them in a Hyundai / Kia plastic bag but they arrived without any OE packaging.

Alex

The only packaging I am aware of are the plastic bags that have the Hyundai and Kia name all over them in blue. I think there are also some little hologram stickers on the parts. So, your parts arrived loose and not in the bags?

I got mine from eBay seller 'kdmland'. All parts came in the OEM bags and were shipped fast. Installation on the steering wheel is simple. It's simply an adhesive that goes OVER the existing flying H logo. No removal necessary. The trunk takes a little more time and work, but it's not difficult. Good luck!

I was looking on ebay to get just the trunk wings, but was surprised at the price of the hood wings. However I noticed that some places were selling hood wings that were 157 mm and some that were 184 mm. Obviously one is slightly bigger, but which one is supposed to go on the genesis? Any thoughts, opinions, or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The larger one goes on the front(hood)

I bought the 18" wheel center caps and front/rear badging from seller woowon11, eBay store FilterMall. All the parts were in OEM packaging, and all were bubble wrapped for shipping.

Very happy with the transaction and the seller, and would recommend to anyone.

I second this. I don't like the look of the front emblem, seems over the top to me, not as subtle. The rear genesis emblem looks awesome though and the steering wheel one (stick on) looks way better in person than on photos I have seen online. However, at the end of the day, it is a matter of preference so do what makes you happy.
