  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

  • Genesis leads the overall industry as top-ranked nameplate
  • Genesis scores 21 points better than the #2 ranked premium brand
  • In its first year, the all-new G70 luxury sport sedan scores best in compact premium car segment
FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., June 19, 2019 – For the second year in a row, Genesis placed first in the J.D. Power 2019 U.S. Initial Quality Study (IQS) among all automotive brands. With a score of 63 problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100), Genesis led both the premium segment as well as the industry overall in initial quality.

“We are extremely thrilled to be recognized for highest quality by J.D. Power for two consecutive years – particularly considering we are a relatively young brand,” said Manfred Fitzgerald, Executive Vice President and Global Head of the Genesis Brand. “This is a testament toward our promise to deliver the most desirable products for our customers. We will continue to hold our products, brand and customer experience to the highest standard in all facets.”

The Genesis brand’s score of 63 PP100 represents a year-over-year improvement of five points. G70, which scored 60 PP100 in its first sales year—more than 30 points better than the average for its segment—was appreciated by owners for its infotainment system, interior and exterior design, and features and displays.

“Our customers are number one—period—so it is extremely gratifying to receive recognition from them and, in turn, from industry leader J.D. Power,” said Erwin Raphael, COO, Genesis Motor America.

The IQS study, now in its fourth decade, serves as the industry benchmark for new-vehicle quality measured at 90 days of ownership. The 2019 survey is based on responses from purchasers and lessees of new, 2019 model-year vehicles, which is designed to provide manufacturers with information to facilitate the identification of problems and drive product improvement.

It was said by a mechanic on you tube by the name of Scotty Kilmer that JD Power doesn't mean shit. It's like an advertising company who gets paid to say whatever. I believe him he's a great guy to watch. Tells you like it is.

^ Kilmer is full of it from time to time as well.

Auto-makers pay JDP to get access to the data in order to see the areas which they need to address (they do the same for CR's data).

Why pay for that if they can just pay to artificially inflate their rankings?

Why haven't automakers like Land Rover paid to inflate their rankings (which also sit towards the bottom of CR's rankings) if that's possible?

Why did GM pay to boost the rankings for Chevy and Buick (which did well in JDP's 2019 VDS), but not for Cadillac or GMC (which did poorly)?

One would think GM would pay for its lux brand, over say, Buick.

On top of that, while there is some discrepancies btwn JDP and CR (based on how they categorize problems and how much weight they place on diff. things), there tends to be many commonalities.

For instance, both have shown the slide in reliability/rankings for Honda and Acura over the past few years.

Automakers take JD Powers data very seriously, and use it to judge how well their products are performing. They use the data for future roadmap planning and evaluating the success of different model launches, and employee performance are evaluated by the results as well.

I enjoy the Scotty videos as well and, at times, he can make logical statements his evaluations and recommendations. I do disagree with his strong opinions on the JDP awards.
If everyone took Scotty at his word, we'd all be driving used Toyotas...
