  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Motors Acknowledges It's Not A Luxury Brand

What Really Defines a Luxury Car? | HuffPost
How about this definition of luxury car.I believe my G80 is a luxury car,so was my Lincoln town car and my 1941 ford V8.I said luxury to me,not to everyone.I have owned many cars that seemed luxurious to me,and that is all that matters to me.

Well said and very true, IMO.
"The idea that you can only get a luxury car from a luxury brand may be specifically American. Brands like Acura, Infiniti and Lexus were invented to sell luxurious Hondas, Nissans and Toyotas to Americans who probably don’t think of Hondas, Nissans and Toyotas as luxury cars.
If you’re still thinking luxury means making a big impression by showing up to your high-school reunion in a borrowed Jag like Romy and Michelle, think again. Today, it’s about quality, comfort, good looks and visually pleasing design. Modern luxury pays attention to the details, but ultimately doesn’t care what logo is on the trunk. "

My definition of luxury is comfort and serenity - whether it be in my vehicle - or while at a service appointment for my vehicle...

Here is what US News and World Reports says 10 Best Luxury Cars

2) Genesis
Average Overall Score: 9/10
Genesis currently offers just two models, the G80 (a luxury midsize sedan) and the G90 (a luxury large sedan), but this Hyundai offshoot impressed critics right out of the gate.
Genesis initially billed itself as an affordable alternative to pricey European brands, but the cars stand on their own, even without that disclaimer. These sedans have executive-quality interiors, smooth performance, and enough standard features to satisfy most buyers.

Yes, exactly. They're luxury cars - not near luxury cars...

Actually they are basically whatever anyone wants to call them.
And again, Genesis never said that the G90 was near luxury as you said in your original post. At the very least, correct that.

What a sense of relief. Glad you were able to see someone and get that pesky hyperbole treated. 😀

I see, so that makes sense. They have their own specific way of categorizing things. I FEEL it's not in Genesis Motors' best interests to send out these news blasts with the term "near luxury" in the U.S. - because that's not the image they're going for...

As mentioned below, the A4/S4/RS4 - different type of car. The G80 is naturally more luxurious and in that regard "better"...

Probably not the best thing (if they were going to do so, should have noted past winners in the segment from BMW, Mercedes, as well a noting that the G90 was an awardee in the luxury segment).

The compact lux segment has often been referred to as near-luxury (as real luxury doesn't compromise too much in space and luxury).

Over in Europe, only the flagship segment is classified as luxury.

The midsize is classified as Executive and the compact, Jr. Executive.

Luxury or not, it's still Hyundai to me....that way I can buy them cheap with huge discounts! I don't mind using a Hyundai dealership front door at all, even service door on the side of the building :spoton:

Two totally different cars meant for different purposes, can't compare them.
Point taken, but he did the comparison, not me. We could compare the G80 Sport to a horse and buggy, or a pick-up truck, but THAT would be ridiculous. The Audi S4 is a lot less ridiculous in comparison. :D

However you are the one that typed: "So, if Audi is Tier 1, then..."

Isn’t it possible that the “Near Luxury” category is not for the brand but the specific model? In the Lexus world, I thought my old LX was definitely a luxury suv and I think likewise that an LS is definitely a luxury sedan but I’d argue that an ES (and virtually all GS trim levels) are not luxury models but are “near luxury”; IMHO.
