I had negotiated my genesis down from msrp to close to the deal I wanted on saturday except my dealership couldn't get the color combination i wanted because the only car within 600 miles was a demo that i didn't want. I ended up walking away from the dealership when they closed at 4pm. I went online to see if I could find my second color (Adriatic blue) with the sports package and black with grey stitching.
Genesis of Dublin had it and they weren't closed yet. The pictures on their website were terrible. They were listing the Adriatic blue but their pictures associated with the car showed a red and black exterior. I called them up and asked the sales person to send me actual pictures of the car because I might drive from detroit to come talk about it. He sent me the pictures and we had a text exchange. I let him know the deal the first dealership got me. I sent proof of it written down and the vin number of the car that was the wrong color.
We made plans to come see what he could do. He got all of my info to see what i would qualify for rebates wise and said he'd talk to his manager as soon as they opened. My boyfriend and i drove down to Ohio. I brought everything with me and was ready to purchase if they could get within 1000 of my original deal.
The sales person I worked with was nice but when we sat down he gave me a number that was ~6k more than what I said the first dealership offered. I told him if he couldn't get close im leaving because it's the exact same car with the same packages just a different color. He was nice enough about it but someone else came and butted into our conversation.
He ruined the interaction for me. He was very abrasive and defensive and the typical high pressure sales person. He came up and said not that he doesn't believe us but there is no way my dealership could be offering me that price OTD without something weird happening. He then proceeded to tell us that the price he offered was only making them 200 dollars in profit (which I know is a crappy sales tactics). He then said the other dealership must be hitting me with a ton of fees and what not or doing something weird behind the scenes (like it's also a demo or it had an accident) to give me that price. That immediately rubbed me the wrong way. You can earn business without putting down other dealerships. There's no need to be rude just because genesis of dublin ohio couldnt match the deal. I told him to check the vin and it came back clean. I immediately walked out the door because he talked to me like I didn't know anything about what I was buying (but thanks to this forum I knew what others were paying). It's ridiculous to quote me 51k and say you're only making 200 in profits when you know the other dealership is offering 46k OTD.
It was such a bad experience I didn't even bother asking my first dealership to do a dealership trade for the adriatic (dublin had the only one in the configuration I wanted). I ended up buying the g70 they had on my first dealership's lot on Monday (which was my third color choice anyway) because I didn't want to deal with dublin anymore. There was nothing fishy going on and they honored the price they quoted me on saturday. I'd rather compromise my car color and work with a nice dealership than waste my time talking down the price with such a pushy sales person.
