  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I had negotiated my genesis down from msrp to close to the deal I wanted on saturday except my dealership couldn't get the color combination i wanted because the only car within 600 miles was a demo that i didn't want. I ended up walking away from the dealership when they closed at 4pm. I went online to see if I could find my second color (Adriatic blue) with the sports package and black with grey stitching.

Genesis of Dublin had it and they weren't closed yet. The pictures on their website were terrible. They were listing the Adriatic blue but their pictures associated with the car showed a red and black exterior. I called them up and asked the sales person to send me actual pictures of the car because I might drive from detroit to come talk about it. He sent me the pictures and we had a text exchange. I let him know the deal the first dealership got me. I sent proof of it written down and the vin number of the car that was the wrong color.
We made plans to come see what he could do. He got all of my info to see what i would qualify for rebates wise and said he'd talk to his manager as soon as they opened. My boyfriend and i drove down to Ohio. I brought everything with me and was ready to purchase if they could get within 1000 of my original deal.

The sales person I worked with was nice but when we sat down he gave me a number that was ~6k more than what I said the first dealership offered. I told him if he couldn't get close im leaving because it's the exact same car with the same packages just a different color. He was nice enough about it but someone else came and butted into our conversation.
He ruined the interaction for me. He was very abrasive and defensive and the typical high pressure sales person. He came up and said not that he doesn't believe us but there is no way my dealership could be offering me that price OTD without something weird happening. He then proceeded to tell us that the price he offered was only making them 200 dollars in profit (which I know is a crappy sales tactics). He then said the other dealership must be hitting me with a ton of fees and what not or doing something weird behind the scenes (like it's also a demo or it had an accident) to give me that price. That immediately rubbed me the wrong way. You can earn business without putting down other dealerships. There's no need to be rude just because genesis of dublin ohio couldnt match the deal. I told him to check the vin and it came back clean. I immediately walked out the door because he talked to me like I didn't know anything about what I was buying (but thanks to this forum I knew what others were paying). It's ridiculous to quote me 51k and say you're only making 200 in profits when you know the other dealership is offering 46k OTD.

It was such a bad experience I didn't even bother asking my first dealership to do a dealership trade for the adriatic (dublin had the only one in the configuration I wanted). I ended up buying the g70 they had on my first dealership's lot on Monday (which was my third color choice anyway) because I didn't want to deal with dublin anymore. There was nothing fishy going on and they honored the price they quoted me on saturday. I'd rather compromise my car color and work with a nice dealership than waste my time talking down the price with such a pushy sales person.

Must be inflation, usually they say they are only making $100 on the deal.
Good for you to walk out. Sometimes you just have to.

I thought those dealer tactics were from the old days. Most peeps nowadays such as yourself are privy to that kind of nonsense and risk damaging their dealers reputation. They wasted your time and money driving to there. So glad you posted to warn others of that dealer. What color did you get inside and out?

I bought my G70 from Genesis of Dublin, mostly because they were the only Genesis-branded dealer in the Columbus area. My experience was similar, but I decided to go with them since I had Circle A plan (RIP R-spec) pricing and Hyundai doesn't allow any dealer markup on top of that. They were about to mark up my interest rate, but I called them out on that, too. I think the salesman was a grump to me because he barely made a dime on it. However, their service department has been excellent, which has been a pleasant surprise.

Also, that Adraitic Blue G70 has been on their lot since the beginning of the year (unless they recently got a new one). I know that because I was about to buy the exact car in March before I bought mine (which was a quick decision as mine was right off the truck and the first time I ever saw Savile Silver in person. No regrets at all; beautiful color), and that stock number was still at the dealer the last time I was there (last weekend).

I agree. Sometimes you gotta leave the emotion out of it and be prepared to walk. At the end of the day, they're in the business of maximizing profit - some are more zealous than others.

Sometimes, I'll actually use "the walk" as a bargaining tactic if I think I'm getting screwed. To be truthful, I always presume that it'll take me 3 months to find what I want at a deal I can live with.

I had a Nissan dealer agree to a price on the phone and then change their tune when I got there. They let me walk, but then followed up the next day. By then I'd bought the car from another dealer.

I've had that happen - somehow the next day they were able to make me the deal that they refused the day before. Being the suspicious consumer that I am, I didn't bite.

It can also be useful to shop towards the end of the month when the sales guys are getting squeezed on their monthly quotas.

First of all...terrible to hear of the interaction with Dublin Genesis, but why on the earth would you drive to the dealership BEFORE the numbers where finalized?

I bet you won't make that mistake again!

I ended up getting himalayan grey with the black and grey stitching interior. My first choice was mallorca blue and then adriatic. The mallorca is so hard to find with the grey stitching.

I saw the Saville silver in person too and it is is a beautiful color! The Siberian ice was also in their showroom and it was gorgeous but it was the 2.0t. I think the genesis has very beautiful colors all around.

I've been trying to get numbers through email for a couple of weeks. It was such a painful process just to get one quote so i figured it was easier to go in and see the numbers in person.
This dealership knew I was ready to buy and what another dealership was offering so instead of giving me a serious counter offer they wanted to use scare tactics in the hopes of making more money off of me.
I knew driving down there if they weren't going to be serious i was immediately walking away. I don't think it was a complete waste as I got to see the car and got some good food for lunch.
