If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I just read an article from Car and Driver online that Genesis Motors will offer its customers complimentary loaner vehicles with free pickup and drop off. Additionally they will offer free scheduled maintenance for the first 3 years. They will also offer the full suite (all 3 Blue Link packages) of Connected Care free for 3 years.

Finally SiriusXM satellite radio and traffic will be free for 3 years, as well as complimentary navigation updates for 3 years.

I certainly hope at least some of these complimentary services will be offered to existing owners of the Genesis sedan. If not, I'll be VERY disappointed with Hyundai (Genesis?)
Here's the article:

FROM GENESIS TO RELEVATION

-
Genesis, Hyundai’s new luxury unit, is banking on the invisible touch of complimentary services to woo customers to its G80 mid-size and G90 full-size luxury sedans. Like a number of its competitors, Genesis will offer complimentary scheduled service for three years or 36,000 miles. The brand notes that it will cover a number of recommended maintenance items, including engine oil and oil filter changes, air filter replacements, and tire rotations.

-
Although Genesis’s complimentary service falls short of that offered by Jaguar in both time and miles (five years or 60,000 miles), the Korean luxury brand is hoping to set itself apart from the competition with its unique complimentary valet program, wherein Genesis customers can schedule a service appointment and have their vehicle picked up by a service valet at a time and location of their choosing. According to Genesis, service appointments can be scheduled online, by phone to a dedicated call center, via the Genesis mobile app, or through the vehicle’s Connected Services function within its infotainment system. Genesis will supply a loaner car free of charge and also lets the customer choose a time and place for the valet to return their G80 or G90 once servicing is complete.

-
Additionally, the brand’s Connected Services are free of charge for three years. The services include a range of functions via three packages: Connected Care, Remote, and Guidance. The trio of packages offer a combination of safety and convenience, mobile, and navigation functions. Among them are automatic collision notification, maintenance alerts, and app-based keyless entry and start as well as the ability to search for a destination via the app and send it to the vehicle’s navigation system. Likewise, SiriusXM satellite radio, traffic and data services, and downloadable updates to the navigation system’s SD card are complimentary for three years. Unsurprisingly, Genesis takes a page from Hyundai in offering a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty on its cars.

The 2017 Genesis G80 is little more than a renamed Hyundai Genesis, a car we’ve lauded for its value and comfort since it debuted for 2015, while the Genesis G90 is an all-new vehicle that replaces the Hyundai Equus. Look for Genesis to add a pair of SUVs and a sports coupe to its model line in the coming years.

While it would be nice to be grandfathered into these perks, I would imagine only a loaner for service and perhaps the valet service would be made available to existing owners. But who knows...maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised?

I figure we'll be lucky if they let us drive our heaps onto their spiffy new lots!

I'd guess that some of this may be reflected in the price.

I doubt they will raise the price on the G80 significantly over the current Hyundai Genesis models.

They already have a very hard time selling the current vehicles at the current MSRP - the G80 is essentially the 2015/2016 model Hyundai Genesis sedan. Just because they remove the "Hyundai" from the Genesis model name won't allow them to raise the price, no matter what perks they offer.

Also, if they are smart they will try and attract the current Genesis sedan owners to come into the Genesis dealerships so they will eventually want to replace their current vehicles with a new generation Genesis G80/90 sedan.

After the Android Auto/Apple Car Play fiasco for the Ultimate owners, not offering the same care for your existing customers vs. new G80/90 would certainly not goodwill with me and many other owners of the current generation of vehicles.

My 2 cents ...

Yep, which is why I don't expect them to be grandfathered into Hyundai Genesis models (2009-2016).

I believe that the free navigation updates for 3 years will be offered for all Hyundai vehicles with 2017 MY, but not sure.

I don't want to sound like I am defending Hyundai on this, but they may be somewhat limited in how fast they can move on some of these features by the fact that the entertainment systems is supplied by Harman International.

Also, I wonder how much a Korean car company cares about Apple, since Samsung is Apple's biggest competitor, and Koreans are very loyal to domestic companies such as Samsung. So maybe that has something to do with the Korean built Genesis.

Nice catch. I just read that article and came here to post it as well. As a new '16 owner, I will be extremely, extremely disappointed if I am not included, or grandfathered in to this package.

Hyundai has every incentive to establish this newfangled brand with the Genesis moniker. Should they abandon recent customers, I can assure you many of them (myself included) will go elsewhere for their next luxury vehicle.

Wow!

The new brand does not start until MY 2017. You paid for and own a Hyundai Genesis, not a Genesis G80.

I don't know what you do for a living, but if your company starts offering free lunches, please let me know where to show up.

The "spiffy new lots" will be the same lot you drive into now. Oh, okay, they may cone off a special section for Genesis Motors folks. No new standalone dealerships have been announced, thus far, and no Hyundai Motors signs have even been erected yet.

It would be incredibly stupid to not extend the "Genesis experience" to current owners. They (Genesis) have no advocates right now, so making your current owners happy creates a good basis for advocacy for the new brand.

On the other hand, treating current owners (who have a vehicle that looks 98% like the G80) as "Hyundai" instead of "Genesis" customers will alienate these customers - certainly me and Astarjoe - I suspect many others as well.

You want to reward your early adopters, not piss them off with the first effort your are putting into a new brand. It makes perfect sense from any perspective I look at it, the cost of extending these benefits to the current generation owners will easily outweigh the downside of not offering this to us - i.e. when people ask me how I like the brand I can go and be enthusiastically pro Genesis ("they even extended their new brand experience to us"), or I can respond that Hyundai/Genesis places no value in it's current customers and recommend against buying anything from them ('they put a different badge on the vehicle, sell it for the same price and treat existing customers like 2nd class citizens").

Why tarnish a new luxury brand you are trying to establish by pissing off your existing customers? The wise thing is to make sure we (current Genesis owners) are happy and excited about the establishment of the new brand and become huge advocates for them.

My 2 cents, I have no insight into Hyundai/Genesis plans, but I hope they are smart about this.

I would not expect all of the upgrades. Sure, it would be nice, but I bought a car that did not have these features, so I really cannot complain. Sure, it would be nice to upgrade some of this to current G2 owners, but I really would not expect it.

+1
We know (or should know) what we're getting at time of purchase. We can't complain if the product we purchase is improved over time and new buyers get "new and improved" features and/or services - that's just the way it is.

I specifically asked my dealer (the boss, NOT the saleslady) about the upcoming spinoff (did you?). He took me to the front of the showroom and pointed directly across the highway where a raft of contractors were tearing down a shabby old used-car operation. "I just bought that lot and that's where the new Genesis dealership is going" he proudly informed me.

"Standalone"? Guess that depends on your definition. Don't know where he'll find a sign to put up, but he's a pretty capable guy.

As someone who leases and loves getting a new ride every 3 years/36K miles I'm liking the direction Hyundai...or Genesis is going with this. I don't know if I'll get another Genesis after this one just cause I typically like to change things up but them offering all those services "at no additional cost" is good to know!

Yes I realize that stuff really isn't free but still...it shows that they are going to make a concerted effort at excelling in customer service.

Talking with the Hyundai sales manager, he told me about a guy like you (but on a 2yr/30k cycle) who always orders the top of the line unit, loaded, and tells Hyundai to surprise him with the color combo since he goes through all of them so quickly.

Early adopter? I bought my Genesis in January 2009, and you bought one in 2015, and you claim to be an early adopter?

They could extend some of those things to current owners, but for most it costs money and is not free to provide them. Many of them have already been provided to Equus owners, which was built into the price of the car.

When you say "I hope they are smart about this" I take that to mean that you hope they give you something for free that you did not pay for. Smart for you, but not sure about whether it is smart for dealers or Hyundai Motor.

I don't see how any rational person would consider the grandfather issue for Hyundai Genesis owners (2009-2016) to be relevant of a purchase of a 2017+ Genesis G80 in the future. If anything, a purchaser of the Genesis G80 could reasonably conclude that they are paying for the grandfathering of the previous purchasers, and resent that.

Every 2 years would be nice but more expensive than I'd want to do in most cases. 3 years is typically the sweet spot in leasing where you get the lowest money factor. I like to change it up more than that guy it seems. The Genesis is the first sedan I've leased. It's actually the first foreign car company I've leased from too.

Yeah, I think the guy's a salesman who lives in his car, so he's all about comfort and predictability. Funny about the colors, though. Most people consider color combo one of their most important choices; he leaves it totally to the dealer.
