  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hyundai's premium brand Genesis has sold more than 300,000 units worldwide since its launch in November 2015.
Hyundai on Sunday said it sold 71,411 Genesis sedans globally from January to November this year, taking its four-year cumulative sales to 302,573 units -- 215,840 abroad and 86,733 at home.

The G80 has been the most popular model with 170,006 units sold. The G90 has sold 74,029 units and the G70 58,538.

"We are about to release the first Genesis SUV, the GV80," a Hyundai spokesperson said. "Sales will increase significantly as a totally revamped version of the G80 will be launched in the first half of next year and the GV70 compact SUV in the second half."

Here's an interesting take from someone at CR.

“Lexus has lost some of its luster,” said Jake Fisher, senior director of auto testing at Consumer Reports, who points to gains by rivals such as Hyundai Motors Co.’s Genesis brand. “Genesis is taking that baton. They are what Lexus used to be: affordable, comfy and stress-free.”

Just for reference, Toyota sold 9,600,000 cars in their FY ending Mar 31.

Tesla sells under 400,000 a year.

I realize Genesis is just starting out.

^ Yeah, in the scheme of things, 300k is not a lot and the folks over at Genesis probably thought that they would hit that mark earlier.

But the the Genesis sedan didn't make the change-over to the G80 until mid/late 2016 (KDM/USDM) and then there was the bungled state licensing thing (which not only delayed the launch of the G70, but really restricted sales of the G80 and G90 due to supply issues).

One thing I noticed is that the article got the sales breakdown switched - should be 215,840 home and 86,733 abroad (for 2019, Genesis should sell around 60k in Korea).

By the end of its run, the current G90 should do around 100k in sales (getting the F/L model to the lots here in the US would certainly help).

(In context, the W222 S Class recently hit the 500k production mark.)

Don't think the LS 500 will sniff that figure even if Lexus extends the life-cycle to a 10 yr period.

But while 100k in volume isn't bad for a flagship lux sedan (these days) and makes it worth it for Hyundai to continue to invest in the G90, the F/L Grandeur (also formerly known as the Azera) got around 55k in pre-orders.

Larger sedans are still big sellers in the Korean market.
