If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The reliability reports from CR just came out and Genesis was ranked in the middle of the pack (18th out of 30 brands).

Brand rankings, and Individual model reliability scores are attached.

GV70 and GV80 were hit really hard, with GV70 likely no longer a 'CR recommended' vehicle (which it was, a few days ago).

Gotta await the JD power ratings now.

At least if you have a problem you can count on world class concierge service 😏

On a serious note, I am a prospective GV70 buyer and it was a tad bit disheartening to see. Reliability is important to me, as I usually expect to keep my vehicles for 8+ years

I still haven't written off the GV70, despite this.
It's just that it is such a great buy when compared to the other vehicles I am considering (X3, RDX).
Also helps that I am in Canada, where there is no haggle on price and have 2 dealerships close to me (with 4.8 and 4.2 google ratings), with a third one being built to open up within 10 mins of my home.
I might yet bite the bullet.

Yep, confirmed.
GV70 no longer a CR recommended vehicle.

"
Consumer Reports has removed the recommendation of six models—the Chevrolet Blazer, Genesis GV70, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and the Volkswagen Atlas, Atlas Cross Sport, and Jetta—because of their below-average reliability as identified in our 2023 Auto Survey of CR members.

GV70 owners called out issues with the fuel system, body hardware, and the drive system, specifically the differential. Some members also had problems with the fuel pump, including some who had the pump fail while they were driving on a highway.

A Genesis spokesperson said: “Genesis has been addressing all of the concerns noted in this report, and many countermeasures have been implemented in the newest vehicles delivered to customers. For customers with vehicles produced prior to the implementation of these countermeasures, we have issued one recall and several technical service bulletins supporting the diagnosis and repair of any potential concerns. We encourage [customers’ to schedule an appointment with their local Genesis retailer to diagnose and address their concern.

Just remember, the warranty for genesis is, bumper to bumper 5 years and drivetrain 10 years. (I think it is 20,000/100,000)

Thanks. Drivetrain is 5 years as well, in Canada, with 5 years valet free maintenance too instead of 3.
Did you mean to temper my expectations and not go beyond the warranty period? Or that I am covered for 5, despite whatever happens, and that all issues will be fixed and I can push through to 8+ by hoping for the best?

Well, I have a 21 GV80 that has had no issues yet. I honestly think that the majority of the people who own them have had little issues with theirs either. But then, there are the nightmare stories....

Really strange that Genesis a year couple years back was in the top portion of the rankings and is now in the middle of the pack? My 2020 G70 was ranked pretty good at the time and I’ve still had no issues other than the freaken dark trim issue spotting around the windows. Wonder if now that a lot of GV… vehicles are on the road that more vehicles means satisfaction ratings have gone down? I think I answered 3 JD powers surveys about my car within the first year or so of ownership. Wonder if JD Powers has dinged Genesis was well?

Yes, new CR ratings data for the past year came in and got posted yesterday.

JD Power 2023 data seems good for GV70. But it may get updated soon too, and we will have to see. They usually update early Feb

GV70 sedan looks good too.

I’m really skeptical of these consumer ratings no matter who is doing them. I suspect money and/or influence is changing hands. I’ve got a ‘23 GV70 3.5T Sport Prestige that’s 8 months old with 10k miles and absolutely no mechanical issues so far. YMMV, but I’d buy it again.

I’m a little less inclined to jump to the “favors” conclusion.

Assuming CR is still using aggregated data which seems to be the case, it should give a much clearer statistical picture of how likely you will hit issues with a particular brand relative to others, but it is still a little too simplified by shoving everything into a single ranking number. I’d love to see a better breakdown on why brands and cars land where they do.

CR does give a detailed breakdown of the reliability report. The two biggest negatives were "in car electronics" and "charging". The charging, of course, is mostly related to the inability to charge as per specs and I suspect that the steering wheel controls issue was what did in "in car electronics".

First, I think CR is heavily biased and they focus on ridiculous minutae - like steering wheel controls rather than focusing on the big-ticket items that they should be looking at - like the rear differential. I've had two replaced in a year and after pushing my dealership hard, they acknowledged that Genesis has done NOTHING to address these issues. They just keep replacing them and rolling the dice. That concerns me since I'm racing towards the end of my 100K KM warranty very quickly. The cost of each of these, by the way, is $4,400!

Why does nobody focus on the real problems on these vehicles? eLSD, rear diff, transfer cases, fuel pump, fuel injectors, throttle body, etc...are all much higher than average problem areas that don't seem to be getting addressed.

That's unfortunate to hear, they have done nothing.
I suspect the fact that sales are not impacted enough, and that their focus is probably on electrified, is making them do nothing.

Btw, Consumer reports reliability is lower exactly for the things you mentioned. My earlier post here, comes straight from a CR article on GV70.

Not surprised about the drop off in Genesis reliability for CR as they take inputs from more recent owners (as short as 6 months) which means including newer models which haven't gotten the kinks sorted out yet.

In contrast, JDP strictly takes a look at 3 yr old models, so the newer Genesis products wouldn't be included (or if they are included, would only entail a short ownership period).

As for this, one has to take into account where the vehicle is in its life cycle.

Acura was 3rd from the bottom in CR's 2020 report.

They've since climbed the rankings due to working out the kinks over the years.

There is truth to the adage - don't buy a vehicle in its 1st MY, even more so if it includes new powertrains.

Except that Acura was around for a few decades prior to 2020, so not a good example. You mean a particular model?

^ My point is that when an automaker adds a slew of new models and/or power-trains and tech, reliability tends to drop, as it did for a no. of years with both Acura and Honda when they had new engines (the 1.5T with oil dilution problems) and transmissions (such as the ZF 8 spd AT).

The Lexus model with the lowest reliability (according to CR) was the LS500, since it was a new model with a new powertrain.

The TX will probably take over as the least reliable Lexus model.

The car is 8 months old with 10k miles. It better not have any problems even if it's a golf cart 🤣🤣🤣
