  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The report says “Among infotainment issues, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity (6.3 PP100) is the top problem.” I wonder if this is actually a problem or if people are just complaining that the Genesis GV80 is not wireless. I don’t know the answer but my plain USB dongle has perfect connectivity with CarPlay.

Of all the problems I see on the various forums, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are way down the list.
Differential/transfer case I think is #1

Based on the newest JD Power survey. the Genesis reliability has drop significantly. It was top 3 last year and this year it was 5 below the industrial average. I think they expand to much and put profit and market share in front of quality and service. NO good for the long tun.
Perhaps Genesis is just trying to bring product quality closer to the level of U.S. sales and service satisfaction! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Not really, 2021 was the launch year of the new GV80 and G80. The first year models of any vehicle from any brand will always be the most problematic.

If anything, I would like to see how someone could justify an Infiniti or Acura product after looking at this list. Fighting to compete with Mercedes for the losing spot, really funny.

JD Power doesn't weigh problems by severity, so infotainment issues are weighed the same as mechanical issues and drive the top complaints on the survey. More people complain about infotainment and user friendliness than actual mechanical reliability because, despite vocal forum voices, very few cars actually experience major issues in their first three years.

Although the GV80 has it's issues as documented here - especially the rear diff - I'm not sure JDPower is actually a valid source anymore. The way they whore themes out to the highest paying [advertiser] really pigeon-holes what they are suppose to stand for. Besides, infotainment issues are an industry-wide struggle right now.

I mean really, a Jeep over a Genesis, or a Jeep over anything else for that matter says a lot about the quality of this survey.

the infotainment is like the most reliable part of these genesis cars. Most of what i see with genesis and in my own experience is actual problems mechanical, physical, or sensor defects. They dont seem to be just complaints over the carplay or whatever.

Literally every single review of the GV80 complained about it not having wireless Carplay.

Many want the feature but that has nothing to do with actual reliability. Sure confuses the real issue.
Yet as already pointed out, Carplay connectivity was the "top problem" of all infotainments. And infotainment and driver aid usability were the "key findings" that JDP highlighted. So when looking at this dependibility survey, that's factored in as a major criteria...

Following are key findings of the 2024 study:

  • Infotainment system woes continue to plague owners: As vehicles roll off the assembly line with increasingly more technology, it is not unexpected that the most problematic vehicle category is infotainment (49.1 PP100)—nearly twice as many problems as the next-highest category, which is exterior. Among infotainment issues, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity (6.3 PP100) is the top problem, followed by built-in voice recognition (6.1 PP100).
  • Annoyance with driver assistance alerts grows over time: The number of problems related to driver assistance system alerts has increased between the 90-day ownership period and the three-year ownership period. “Many would think that after three years, owners would become used to the alerts on their vehicle,” Hanley said. “However, that is not the case. Increased problem levels are experienced across multiple driver assistance features including, but not limited to, lane departure warning/lane keeping assistance and forward collision warning/automatic emergency braking.”
  • Electrified vehicles more problematic than others: Owners of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) experience more problems than owners of gas-powered and hybrid vehicles. BEVs are most troublesome (256 PP100), followed by PHEVs (216 PP100). Hybrids (191 PP100) and gasoline vehicles (187 PP100) fare significantly better. At three years of ownership, tires are a sore spot for BEVs, with 39% of owners saying they replaced tires in the past 12 months—19 percentage points higher than owners of gas-powered vehicles.

That idea was also my initial reaction to the first post and link. In addition, we don’t know how the survey respondents interpreted the reference/context of questions in the JDP survey or what the pollster really had in mind. The Genesis surveys I’ve gotten regularly from corporate are very poorly formatted. Oftentimes it’s not clear from their layout, which answers refer to which question. ie sometimes it looks like the answers to be circled are for the questions above them and sometimes it looks like the answers refer to the question below, with two different questions being equidistant from the same answer. It’s a problem analogous to supermarket shelf price signs (above or below).Does anyone remember the Hanging Chads controversy in the 2000 election? There can be a variety of reasons for strange outcomes in an opinion survey.

When I think of reliability, I think of mechanical parts. Alternator, water pump, essential equipment to keep the car on the road. I don't use AA or CP so that does not affect me. Then again, it does not bother me to have to push a button to lock doors so maybe my expectations are out of line today.

I think reliability surveys are not very reliable...They seem to be all over the map...The only constant reliability issue that matters...is my own!

Pretty common for reliability to drop with new models and/or powertrains.

Hopefully, for the upcoming years, we'll see Genesis climb back to above average as they work out the kinks.

Acura slid below average for the 2017 VDS and still hasn't recovered (albeit, better than its worst year where it was among the worst).

Haven't owned a 2021 Genesis of any kind. Had never really heard of the brand until the 2022 GV70 came out. Been pretty good so far. Currently on my 5th and 6th Genesis vehicles. Have only had the eLSD issue on my Vik Black GV70 and that's it. No other issues to report.

Shocking to see Audi and Mercedes so low on the the satisfaction list!

My last car was an Audi. I will never buy another one. I did not hate it, but it was just not for me.

Fifteen months in and so far only two (albeit lengthy) service visits. Both were maintenance visits (5K and 10K miles) with some recalls and software updates. I did have the drive shaft recall and that led to a lengthy stay at the dealership (I didn't want to drive a car where the drive shafts could fail) and they gave me an almost new Electrified G80 as a loaner. That is all I would ask for. The second time they wanted to keep the car a little longer. I explained that I was going out of town and they said no problem...keep the almost new GV80 loaner. Again, all I would ask for. They even had arranged for a driver to drop off the loaner and take my car (I told them not to bother; the dealership was just 4.5 fast miles away from my house).

I was a BMW driver/customer prior to trading in my 5 series for the GV60P. So far, the service at Genesis of Scottsdale has been equivalent to that of BMW of North Scottsdale. Slightly worse in some ways, slightly better in others but essentially equivalent.

I've also had Audis before, 8 of them in total. Had a serpentine belt fail on the S4, a high pressure fuel pump fail in one of the R8s, a wonky moonroof on the A6, but that was pretty much it. The thing that will stop me getting another Audi is the touch screen-only user interface on the newest ones. Bring back buttons and I'd be happy to reconsider.
