  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have had my 3.8 liter 2011 Genesis for almost three years. I love this car as it has been fantastic.

Unfortunately the car was totaled today.

My wife and I were stopped for a vehicle ahead of us that was turning left. From the behind, another vehicle rapidly approached us doing about 60 to 70 Mph and hit us. Never touched his brakes.

The one thing I am extremely thankful for is this car I was driving had Electronic Active Head Restraints. I knew my car had them but thought it was a gimmick. They work incredibly well and the emergency personal (EMS &Fire) said they could not believe we were able to walk and talk after that accident. Our injuries were not bad. The other guy did not fair as well.

I am now extra sold on the Genesis and will replace it with another Genesis.

I am truly happy that you and your wife were not seriously injured. Also delighted to hear that some of the safety features work, as I have a 2012 Genesis 3.8

Good to hear you guys fared well, hopefully nothing shows up over the next while from the impact. Do you have any pictures of the accident/vehicles?

I am glad you are both ok. You are lucky you were driving such a safe and well built car. from the sounds of it things could have been catastrophic. I too hope nothing shows up in the coming days.
Good luck.

I would contact a lawyer. I got rear-ended a long time ago and thought I only had minor injuries, but I later found out that was wrong and by then it was too late to get restitution for my medical injuries.

I echo all the other comments. And don't sign any medical release forms until advised by a lawyer.

wow. must have been a heck of a whack. pix are :-O

best of luck as you recover.

...........I'm glad that you are all o.k., it's amazing that more damage wasn't done for the speed you were hit at. It's nice to see that the safety features in the car worked as designed. Hopefully you will decide on another Genny :D

you were very fortunate that your car was well built and had active safety features. Pictures are scary:eek: Get just the Genny you want to replace it!

Thanks everybody. We did get a lawyer and both of got checked out at the local hospital.

We do have some injuries but nothing that requires much treatment. The other guy is in much more serious condition. He was driving an SUV and the engine is now partially in the passenger compartment. His vehicle was relatively new and was one of those supposedly super safe Swedish brands. His air bags never deployed even though the crash investigators said the sensor appeared to be triggered.

My wife is pushing me to get an Equus but I think I rather have another Genesis. Now I need to decide on getting a 2014 model or wait till the 2015 is out and go for all wheel drive version.

I suspect that AWD will only be available with Tech Package (but not sure). So there is going to be a big price difference, especially since the 2015's probably will not be discounted anywhere near as much as a 2014.

I know the 2015 will be a lot more. Not sure I have patience to wait. May just go with the 2014.

One person asked if the rear seat was compromised. To my surprise, there was not any intrusion into the passenger compartment anywhere. Also the fuel tank remained intact.

When one considers that the other vehicle was an SUV with a V8 and weighs 4800 lbs empty going 60+ Mph hits the rear of another vehicle, it is unbelievable how well the Genesis absorbed the impact without penetrating the passenger space. Cannot say enough how i feel the Genesis performed well beyond my wildest expectations.

I'm glad that you and your wife are OK, but make sure that you don't have any lingering pain or other problems that wouldn't show up on an evaluation in the acute situation.

With the '15 becoming available later this year, maybe you can arrange to lease an older car until that happens. That way you'll be able to choose between the '15 and '14 Genesis, which will likely be heavily discounted.

Glad to hear that you and your wife are OK but definitely smart to get an attorney and get checked out (sometimes, pains/symptoms appear days after an accident).

Why not lease (for a 2 yr period)?

This will set you up to get the 2G Genesis after the 1st model year when all the small issues should be addressed; and maybe you can please your wife in the process and try out the Equus (probably good lease deals on both).

That is exactly what we are thinking. Been checking Swap-A- lease to look for something short term.
