  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Year
2015
Genesis Model Type
2G Genesis Sedan (2015-2016)
I must say, they're really not that great. However, most of the automotive industry had a pretty bad April...

Also, I'm not quite sure I understand the year to date numbers. In 2017, year to date sales were 6536. However, the G70 and G90 combined in sales year to date in 2017 were 2745... Or am I missing something? Are they including 2016 Hyundai Genesis Sedan sales?

CUV/SUV sales lacking.

CUV/SUV sales lacking.
Yeah, Cadillac is having the same problem - but at least they have one CUV - and a good one at that... Genesis really needs to get moving on this. I'm sure they are. CUVs are the sales king these days. A brand can't survive without them. Personally, I think a CUV should have come long before the G70.

For now, but let's see what happens when oil prices eventually spike back up... But agree that the CUV should have come sooner. BTW, not everyone is having issues with sedans as evidenced by the huge increase for A5/S5 sales at Audi (driven by the sportback models).

Audi Newsroom

I'd also expect gains with the new A6, A7 and A8 as the new models hit as well (many folks holding off on purchasing the current models to wait for these) . But they do have their SUV/CUV lineup already in place and refreshed and are rapidly moving to electric as well. By the time Genesis gets their CUV's out, they'll be lagging if they don't have electrics coming quickly too.

While a decline is normal as models age (esp. being sedans); this type of decline is more than expected, so let's hope it's just a 1 month blip.

At the same time, the Stinger is doing relatively well for Kia; would do even better if Kia had priced it properly from the start (like Canada) and didn't take off some goodies, as well as offering better lease rates (can lease an Infiniti Q50 Red Sport for significantly than less than a Stinger GT2).

April sales - Canada

Total Genesis sales - 137

G70 - 100

For comparisons sake, the Stinger did 205 last month.

G80 - 27
G90 - 10

G80 sales have really fallen to the wayside; back when it was the Genesis, it regularly sold btwn 200-500 w/ its best sales month totaling 621.

It used to handily outsell the GS by multiples, but now barely outsells the Lexus.

Likely the new direct sales approach and the higher pricing have negatively affected G80 sales (along w/ buyers opting for CUVs/SUVs), but still, can't explain all of it (maybe YEG has some insights as to the reasons for the sharp decline).

South Korea

Total Genesis sales - 5,148 (8th best selling brand)

G70 - 1,103
G80 - 3,132
EQ900 - 913

Stinger - 463
K9 - 1,222 (seems like the new K9 bit into EQ900 sales)

YTD Genesis sales - 22,345

Mercedes - 28,982
BMW - 25,150

So despite currently only having a 3 model lineup, the Genesis brand is not that far off the pace compared to MB and BMW in its home market.

The Korean market is one of the most lucrative for Germans - actually sell more of the E/S Class and 5/7 Series there than anywhere else except for China and the US (2 far larger markets).

While CUVs have started to make inroads in SK as well (the new Santa Fe repeated as the best selling model in Korea - which I believe is the 1st time a CUV has been the best seller in Korea for 2 consecutive months; for about the prior year, the Grandeur dominated the #1 ranking on the sales chart). the lux market is still dominated by larger sedans, as can be noted by YTD LR sales.

Land Rover - 3,811

Which is why (aside from all the other reasons), one can see why Genesis started off w/ its sedan lineup.

Thanks for the detail. April (and even May) may end up anomalies in Canada since the G70 just came out and as they work through the pre-orders. I am surprised just how low the G80 is. The sport version is only $5K more than the G70 sport with the same engine which is a really small difference for the extra vehicle size and added luxury (assuming that is what you want). Look at how much more any of the Germans charge to move up in size (ie C to E class).

^ 111 for May and 234 YTD.

For comparison's sake, the Stinger sold 171 last month, but only the 3.3TT is currently available.
