  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Found some data online. This doesn't specify 2014 vs. 2015 sales so a bit hard to interpret. However, they do specify that the 2015 Genesis finished up more than 50% for the month of October.

October 2014: 2325
October 2013: 1944

September 2014: 2248
September 2013: 2926

August 2014: 3029
August 2013: 2947

July 2014: 2990
July 2013: 2842

June 2014: 3109
June 2013: 2938

May 2014: 3437
May 2013: 2767

Thoughts?

One thing that is a little weird is that Genesis sedan and coupe sales are combined, even though they are two completely different cars.

From what I see on the road Genesis is not selling well in my area at all. Elantras and Sonatas are selling in big numbers. Just my opinion.

The 2015 Genesis is in the Luxury category and fit a niche below Equus so can't expect huge numbers like other models.

I have definitely seen 3 or 4 '15 Sonatas per '15 Genesis, but that's totally expected. "Deal tracker" type places seem to be showing rather short average times on dealer lots. With the combined numbers it may be the aging coupe that's selling slowly; hard to tell.

I live in NJ (very densely populated state - several big Hyundai dealers within a 10-20 mile radius) and I've seen maybe 8 Genesis sedans on the road since I picked mine up in late June - 4 of those are with a neighbor a block away who keeps swapping his out every month or so (must be a dealer) - so far I've seen the following in his driveway:

- Montecito Blue 3.8 AWD
- White 5.0
- Black 5.0
- Black 3.8 AWD

Hyundai US combines the Genesis Sedan and Coupe sales for some weird reason. Canada is able to separate their figures.

Canadian Genesis Sedan Annual Sales Numbers

2008 - 342
2009 - 1031
2010 - 811
2011 - 816
2012 -1206
2013 -1062
2014 - YTD - 1304

Genesis Coupe Annual Sales

2009 - 2407
2010 - 3113
2011 - 2809
2012 - 1773
2013 - 1813
2014 - YTD - 1432

And just for comparisons sake:

Lexus GS

2007 - 596
2008 - 511
2009 - 336
2010 - 251
2011 - 128
2012 - 836
2013 - 642
2014 YTD - 410

Sonata

2007 - 11,034
2008 - 10,298
2009 - 8975
2010 - 13,856
2011 - 16,343
2012 - 14,572
2013 - 14,519
2014 YTD - 11,634

YTD, the Genesis is the 3rd best selling midsize RWD luxury sedan in the US (4,200) after the 5 Series and E Class.

Basically doubling sales from the prior yr (and tripling sales for Feb. - that's what the addition of AWD does during the harsh winter months, altho one has to take into account the age of the 1G Genesis last Jan/Feb).

Canada YTD - 283 (which is more than 5x what the GS has sold in Canada - 52)

Great to hear that!

Actually, this is incorrect. The 2015 Genesis (sedan/coupe) U.S. sales are not categorized under the Mid-sized luxury data along with the MB E-Class or BMW 5 series. Only in Canada are the Genesis sales listed with both the Mid-size luxury group & Large car group.

Current 2015 YTD sales for the Genesis in the U.S. (Hyundai combines both Genesis coupe & sedan in the U.S.) is 5366 & are listed under the Large Car category.

The Hyundai Equus is listed as a mid-sized luxury car?

It is correct and I'm well aware that Hyundai USA doesn't split out the coupe.

As you stated - the combined sales for the US YTD is 5,366.

I'm talking about just the sedan which, as I had stated, is at 4,200.

And really, I woudn't take GCBC as any real indicator of segmentation as it is all over the place (places the Equus in the mid lux category).

Could you provide the link or data which reflects YTD Genesis sedan only sales in the U.S market?

Outside of U.S. EPA guidelines, (which lists the Genesis sedan as a Large Car) there are no other certified classification for automobiles by segment, which explains the different variances in segment sales data from source to source as you've mentioned with GCBC. So with the Genesis, it's not only considered and listed as a mid-sized sedan by some, but also a full sized sedan by others.
