  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Stopped by a local, sizable Hyundai dealer yesterday hoping to drive a 2010
Genesis V8. Dealer said he had none but had 2009 which I had driven previously and found to have twitchy rear suspension. Dealer claimed that 2010 was selling like hotcakes and maker was having trouble keeping up with demand. Haven't had time to check another dealer but this sounds fishy. Anybody out there seeing "shortage" of this model?

not in Houston, at least not V8. They had plenty around the town, though most of them were black on black (blah).

I too heard that the V8 was selling well and there was not even one with the Tech package to drive.

I believe that Hyundai estimated that only 20% of buyers would want the V8, so there could be shortages if demand in certain areas for the V8 exceeded that. In southern areas were temps get really high and there is also intense sunlight, black exteriors are not nearly as popular as in more moderate or colder climates.

One of the bigger dealers is by my house here in Canada and he cannot get them, even mine was trucked in from 500 miles away. He has one lonely V6 low tech model in stock. I recently went to my brothers house in NH. USA and visited 2 very large dealerships there. First one almost laughed at me and said we can't get any and maybe he would have one in the next couple of weeks. (coupes are all over the place) The other dealership had a single white V6 low tech in stock. Not exactly what I would call abundant availability. ;)

Are the dealerships willing to swap cars or try to retrieve one from another dealership?

There in short supply here also. Went to Vancouver and he told me they only had 1 with Tech pkg...wrong color! He checked the region and found a couple in Seattle. Do you think Hyundai is creating demand??

I think it differs from region to region.
My dealer had 8 '09s(this was last year) and 7 of 'em were V8 w/ tech package.
Only 1 V6, which translates to me that the V6 is in higher demand.

Try to look for other dealers.
Dealers normally don't like to say "Oh, we don't have them in the lot because we thought it wasn't gonna sell too well."

Yes, at least here they do this all the time.

My dealership did this for me. All they had were Cashmiere interiors. Told them I'm not 65 years old and they said no problem and had my Black on Black car delivered from Wisconsin to MN.

I orginally wanted Black with Saddle interior, but the closest one was in Chicago, and I would have had to pay like $2,500 extra for this one due to the distance.

There are two dealers here in my area. Historically they've had between 12-15 Genesis between them, but right now there's only ~7 total in inventory of which 4 are V8's but only 1 V8 w/tech. I don't know if it's just a lull in delivery, or if there's been a run on them lately, but I noticed precious few Genny's on the lot when I was there for my last two oil changes. I kind of wondered if they just weren't moving very well and they weren't stocking them.

They did have what seemed like a sea of the 2011 Sonata's, although according to the website inventory there's only around 80 between the two dealers. When I was there it felt like it was difficult to find any other model on the lot.

One year ago, in late May 2009, while up in Penfield NY, I stopped off at the two Hyundai Dealers in the Rochester area. Mind you, this was six months or more after the 4.6 V8 was introduced. (I bought mine in Florida in January 2009). The Rochester Dealers not only did not have any V8's, they never had any up to that time.

Now, in 2010, it could be a regional thing, as the last time I visited my two closest Florida Dealers, they both had plenty of 4.6 V8's in stock. Leaving for Penfield next week and will check the two Rochester Dealers to see what they have.

2 local Florida dealers each have 24 Genesis each in stock with maybe 5 or so V8s each. Of the V8s none have tech. Why is a V8 with Tech so hard to find?

If you spring for the 8 sounds to me like you would definately want the tech also. ;)

There is a good inventory of 2009 & 2010 in the Chicago area. Sometimes you have to look on page 2 to see the 2009. http://www.myhyundaichicago.com/

My thoughts are that if you are overly anxious to buy a Genesis and have a color preference and option package in mind.....there is a shortage. If on the other hand, you are patient and waiting for just the right opportunity to make the plunge, there are more than enough to go around.:):):)
